Also, PSJ's "How to Survive and Thrive in Minecraft" series on youtube is very good to watch if you don't know much about anything in Minecraft survival (he might explain a bit too much if you already know the bare basics, but he's just making sure), and it's fun to watch, too c: I watched that when I started out and it really helped me!

Does anyone know how to reduce fps lag on 1.7.2? I usually get about 200 fps on 1.6.4, but on 1.7.2 I get crazy amounts of lag spikes and my highest fps is around 55. I messed with the video settings a bit, but it hasn't helped much. Any ideas?

Try uninstalling any mods and texture packs then re-installing them, turn clouds off, and render distance to about 8 chunks.
