I know my parents didn't want me getting a tank larger than ten gallons because they don't think our floor could handle it.
Unless I move my room downstairs.
But as it gets closer to senior year, I'm not sure that will happen. lol

Here's a hint. My sister kept 2 - 55 gallon tanks in an upstairs bedroom side by side with cement blocks raising the tanks to about 3 feet (never measured them, but 3 cinderblocks tall) off her bedroom floor when I was in high school. Never any problem with the weight. Structurally since the tanks are close to the wall, and near the heavy supports, and not out in the middle of the room, it doesn't cause an issue. Especially if it's on top of a desk or something to distribute the weight.

I have 2 55 gallon tanks stacked on a specially designed shelf made of 4x4 timber. It's very very sturdy. I have never any problem with the floor. If you can imagine the weight of 2 - 55 gallon tanks all on the same area, thats 110 gallons of water plus the stand. I would estimate close to 500 lbs plus. I use bare bottom so there isn't any weight added for that. I also have a tall clothing dresser with a 10 gallon sitting right beside these 55 gallon tanks. On the other side of the room in various arrangements are my other fish tanks. I've had my brother in law look under my house to make sure nothing was going wrong or that the floor was not being damaged, ... guess what, no damage and he should know, he's a building and construction contractor.

Imagine how many gallons of water are in a water bed? Not that anyone still has or uses waterbeds, they kind of fell out of fashion, however when my husband insisted, we had a king sized water bed in our upstairs bedroom without any weight issues and both of us were plus sized at the time. So, waterbed, 400 lbs of human give or take, the entire waterbed frame, etc... weight is not an issue with most floors. If you've ever seen a floor opened up, there are 2x4 supports under the particle board or plywood flooring and they are not very far apart, so they have a great ability to support a large amount of weight.

If you are upstairs, I can kind of understand your landlord's dilemma, but otherwise, 10 gallons is not a huge fish tank.

For travel, break the 10 tank down and use at least 25% of the water in each of the smaller tanks. If you need to drain them entirely and start over, make sure you have some of the water to start the fish in at the new location. Or do what you do when you bring a new fish home, put them in a container with the old water and gradually add water from the new tank in with them until they get used to the new tank. it's going to be best if you can recycle as much of the old tank water as possible.

Remember, clear plastic totes/storage units work great for transporting, and even for small aquariums. 5 -10 gallons of water is somewhat heavy, yes, but if it's only for a short time, your parents might agree to do it for you in a regular clear plastic storage container. This would be the best way for the fish, 5 or so gallons in a storage bin and then transported to the new location and set up in 2 5 gallon tanks. This way you could gradually just add water to the new 5 gallons to bring them up to 5 gallons again. Hey, and your parents would have an extra storage bin.

If it is a long way they are being transported, then the tub is a better option, if it's short term, then bags but remember the key is to recycle as much old tank water as possible. You didn't say how much time you have to get the smaller tanks operating.

Any floor could hold that no matter what. A ten gallon puts significantly less weight on one spot than the average person. So if you floor couldnt hold that, pretty much any decent sized furniture and any people are going to come crashing through the floor.
You only really sometimes run into problems if you're trying to set up like a 200+ gallon tank upstairs.

Ten gallons really isn't a massive amount ^^ I think he just doesn't want it all concentrated in the same place, because if the glass breaks all of the water will get on the floor (Which he just replaced) so I think he is just trying to be careful too. To be honest having two five gallons would seem safer than having one ten gallon XD
But, this house I am moving into is about 10x better than the one I am living in, so it's definitely worth it. The one I live in right now is crappy, the carpet has gotten so thin that the floor boards are breaking through, and it can't hold heat worth a crap. It won't go above 50 degrees right now This new one is awesome though, so I can deal with a finicky landlord.

Geez guys, I was just trying to say that not all landlords are terribly, heartless, asses. XD Didn't need everyone to start explaining how much a tank actually weighs and how it compares to people and furniture and all of that. I'm not TOTALLY ignorant, despite that appearance. lol

I thought I soaked my new wood for the tank long enough.. but I guess not. I suppose I'm due for a water change anyway, and the tank only got a little brown after four days.
It's not totally like tea yet. xD

Some fish updates:
For Christmas my fish got a big jar of freeze dried krill to put in all the tanks. I don't think they even ate them though x.x Plus, my mom just got me a bottle of new conditioner.
Luca (Crowntail Betta) also died a few days ago. He's been sick for a while, but I'm not sure what it was. He would just lay at the bottom and wasn't eating as much as usual. Luca was the first fish I EVER had and I've had him for over two years. He wasn't very small when I got him, so he was probably like 3 years old when he died. My grandmother got me Luca the night my 16 year old cat had to be put to sleep and he fought me all about fish andis the reason I started keeping fish. I will miss him so so much </3

Lastly, I've noticed Jade's one eye seems to have gotten clouded over the past month. Jade is a Goldfish who appears to be a mix between Flat Eye Telescope (from her eyes), Jikin (from her tail), and Curled-Gill (from her curled gills). Other than that, she is acting and eating normally. Not sure what it's from.

Edit: Oh and I got two new Bettas the other day! I put them in who of my empty 2.5 gallons. The first one is Axel, he's a male Double Tail Betta and he is lavender with pinkish red on his fins. The second one is Rune, she is a female Crowntail Betta and she is black with metallic green-blue scale and red fins. Both of them are sure tiny. My other Bettas- Blittz, Lilac, Lunar, and Dallas make them look so tiny x3 Axel is shy, but Rune is very social. I saw Axel laying at the top of his cup one day and I came back several days later and he was still laying at the top. I touched the cup and he moved, so I decided to save him. I could have sworn Rune was dead, but she wasn't so I sved her. Now she is happily swimming around in a big tank. I love taking in the fish who are sick or seem to have given up hope. Like when I rescued Dallas when he had fin rot and treated it and now he is fine.

Aaww, sorry for your fish losses. Pets are pets, no matter if they are fish, or dogs or cats. (No offence to other pets out there of course, too little space here to say all of the types of pets.) We all grieve over the loss of a pet.

First, freeze dried krill aren't for all fish. Many fish do not like freeze dried whole krill or shrimp but may take it if you pull out a few and soak them in tank water for about a half hour before you feed them. It makes the texture better to the fish when they grab onto the krill.

Next, sorry to hear about about Luca. 3 years is pretty good for a betta although in good conditions 4 or 5 years can be expected. 2 things might have been happening. Water conditions, or overeating. When bettas overeat, they get fat and lazy just like an overweight person might do and they sometimes lay on their side even because rather than gaining muscle to keep their fins upright, they gain fat. Daily stimulation is great for bettas, even if it's just running your had around their tank to have them move in the water. Older fish sometimes just kind of give up and lay like that, but at 2 years, it's more likely either the boredom or overfeeding.

You mentioned you had unexpected deaths in a tank. If the tank having the unexpected deaths had the Oranda in it, then it's likely a case of ammonia poisoning. You didn't mention what you'd tested for or what you've experienced, but goldfish, of any variety, put out at least twice or 3x the waste in both poop and urine of any other fish and require a higher filtration than regular tropicals. i.e a 20 gallon filter on a 10 gallon tank. Otherwise, the tank gets off it's cycle and high ammonia or high acid can result. Plus, goldfish like cooler water than say the danio you mentioned died so if you had both, one or the other was suffering from the wrong temperature. Your 2 year old goldfish was very young as they typically can live many years in the right conditions. (I'm on dial up internet and can't go look back at old posts to see what you've tried.)

With Jade, a photo would be very helpful, but in general there are a few conditions that cause eye cloud. The first is water being acidic. If your ph level is lower than 7, then it's too low for tropical fish including goldfish although they like colder water so are only quasai tropical, lol. There are exceptions, my angelfish included like 6.8 to 6.0, but in general, neutral 7.0 ph or close to it is recommended. The other reason could be a scratch or injury to the cornea of it's eye. Other conditions could be pop-eye or cataracts but we would need photos for confirmation, especially if the water is neutral and you've been doing your water changes. There are other conditions, but without more symptoms and photos, it's hard to diagnose why Jade's eye is getting cloudy.

About Axel and Rune. I'm glad you rescued them, however, being a betta enthusiast and former betta breeder, I hope you don't mean you have a male and a female together in only 2.5 gallons??? After they are about 3 months old, male and female bettas should not be housed together or they will start shredding each other. The male will want to mate and the female won't unless she's ready and females typically are not ready until at leat 5 or 6 months of age and at least a inch and a half long (typically larger). The male will still attempt to reach her and his mouth is similar to sharks with tiny rows of very sharp teeth. I hope you either have a divider or they are are in different tanks. Alternatively I hope you have lots of places for her to hide from him because if he sees her, he will chase her and even though she's faster, she'll end up being bitten.

I don't think it was over feeding because he was actually pretty skinny for several months before he died.

The Oranda was not in t tank with he random deaths, he had swim bladder.

Oh now ay they aren't in the same tank lol! They're ah in their own 2.5 gallon. I have eight 2.5 gallon tanks. I even have cardboard between their tanks just to keep them from stressing from seeing each other through the glass. I would never keep them in the same tank lol, I am also a big betta enthusiast.

Pro gold and Omega one as their staple food. I switch them out for variety. Repashy Soilent Green and Repashy super green when I have it and frozen brine shrimp as treats. I actually mix the shrimp in with the repashy food when I make it. That way its less messy.
I also feed peas once a week and spinach when I have it.

I have been wanting to get some blood worms but they are expensive.

I feed mine Tetramin tropical flakes. My Betta gets shrimp pellets on occasion, but Bettamin tropical medley as a staple ovo

What should you feed snails, and how often should you clean there tanks, and what 'decor' do they need? How many Nerties could be alright in a signal gallon, and would there be enough room for another small fish, or would that be overstocking?

If I'm not mistaken, that's roughly 29 gallons.
I'll let Dakotak or someone else who is more well-versed in goldies, correct me if I'm wrong, but only one or two. Two would be kind of overstocked because of the 20g + 10g for each goldie. (algebraically, 20 + 10n when n=number of goldfish woo /nerd)
