Larkpaw swallowed when his mentor commented the new rest he would take. The brown tom had never really practised bird catching, even though he was named after one. He looked up at his tall mentor and nodded, moving off into the wooden maze. He tried to get lower to the ground while maintaining the fast speed he needed to get around and find the prey. His head swivelled and his whiskers twitched as he moved through a log, the wet, damp stench moving through his nose. His delicate paw steps made hardly any noise. The distant crys of birds and the dripping of water was all he could hear. His ears swivelled as a bird slipped a song near him, and Larkpaw reached the end of the tunnel before turning to its location. The rain was getting heavier and he thought most birds would redid in their hollowed drunks, but this one seemed to be gathering sticks for his or hers nest. Larkpaw smirked, but his confidence would betray him. His paws stood in cold mud, something he seemed not to pick up. The bird launched from its perch, and Larkpaw mimicked its movements but jumped from the ground, extending his skinny fore legs to grasp the bird. He snagged its wing and coiled it into paws. A smug smile went off and on his face when his back legs did not find footing. He opened his mouth but his was taken when he slipped on the mud and tumbled down. The water seeped through and loosened clumps of rock and dirt, sliding it down the mini cliff with him. He let go of the bird and scrambled for a foot hold, a huge rock smashing into his shoulder. The tom hissed in pain and let go, sliding down the hill to the bottom. He snarled as more rocks flew into his body, knocking him further down. He looked up, dust moving off the recently fallen mud, the substance itself covering his vision. ❝caribouskull!❞ the tom shouted, calling for his mentor. Pain radiated form his left paw, a boulder had rolled over it and he feared the worst.

caribouskull pricked a fluffy ear as a far off call reverberated through the trees. he leapt from the branch, digging his claws into the mud. lifting his nose to the air and opening his mouth, Caribouskull tasted the breeze. nothing. the rain didn't help. he heard another call, and sped off in the designated direction. Caribouskull skidded to a halt at the edge of a rushing, tumbling mudslide. he hissed in surprise, spotting a little dark shape bobbing up and down. "Larkpaw?" he called. not waiting for an answer, caribouskull picked his way quickly but carefully down the slope, leaping over mud piles. he was parallel with the floating Larkpaw when a wave of collected water burst down the Jill, further sickening the edge of the chasm and the mud. it smashed into caribouskull, knocking the tom into the sludge and underneath.
he couldn't breath. there was mud in his nose and mouth, eyes and ears. he kicked his paws, but the viscous mud locked them in place. he could only wait, lungs bleeding, until he was tumbled out again. after thirty seconds of agony, the mud shifted, causing the deputy to resurface and head, bleary-eyed, to his struggling apprentice. Caribouskull reached larkpaw and nuzzled the wet tom kit. he inspected the boulder, missing the shoulder injury. caribouskull fixed larkpaw with a sad look. "this might hurt, I need to roll the boulder off you." he informed the younger tom. caribouskull circled the boulder,dragging himself out of the thick sludge. water was building unseen behind the boulder, which was clogging the mud. the deputy shoved as hard as he could,hissing in pain as the sharp rock cut into his skin.
BAM!
the huge rock sold away, releasing the mudslide in its full wrath. both mentor and apprentice were swept away with the unbeatable current.

opalinejester frowned, pricking her ears and taking a few steps in the direction of shadowpaw's gesture. the heavy rain blocked out the scent, whatever it was. im not sure... the usually so sure she cat drifted off, pressing her ears back and crouching lower. take me to it, and we'll see what I can make of it! thoroughly satisfied with her plan, opalinejester nodded to shadowpaw to lead the way. if the smell sparked a dangerous interest, she would take shadowpaw back to camp, organize a patrol and leave again. it could be anything...

Shadowpaw - WillowClan - tags: Opalinejester

Shadowpaw nodded rapidly to her mentor and crept forwards on featherlight paws before Opalinejester, every one of her senses turned on to hyper mode. She was aware of every single small detail before her; the heavy stench that still hung in the air, the way the dead leaves still rustled near-inaudibly beneath her paws, even the small, minuscule and bloodstained strands of fur on the mouse that she had left behind by the bush. The scent was heavier than ever, and she wrinkled her nose; the smell of rain must've been strong enough to have masked the scent even when Opalinejester had been standing so close...

She stopped as realization hit her. Had the smell been an old smell, the rain would've long since washed it away. But the scent was still there, as heavy as ever; Shadowpaw sniffed the air again - fresh scent. Only then did she notice the large pawprints imprinted deeply in the muddy ground, the way the leaves on the bush rustled softly, and as she rose her vision a little higher, hungry eyes met her own terrified ones.

Shadowpaw backed up and shrank against her mentor's pelt, an action of trust she had never done before to the warrior. "Opalinejester?..."

The hugest dog she had ever seen leaped out of the bushes towards them. She screamed.

opalinejester pressed close to her apprentice as the she kit did the same. when the monstrous thing leapt, she too shrieked. opalinejester, pushed shadowpaw out of the way, crouching before the snarling beast. it was snarling, tail swinging from side to side as I circled the little white she cat. suddenly, opalinejester lunged and clung to the dogs face, hissing. she scratched at its ears, turning back to yowl. "shadowpaw! get a patrol!" she turned back just as the dog slammed her down, gripping her entire body in its mouth.

(( I've been thinking that maybe Dewstar, Wolfheart and Sparrowpaw could come across Shadowpaw and Opalinejesture while on their hunting patrol and give them a helping paw? :3 Also, legolas, do they have Gatherings? ))

Once again, stepping down from High Rock, Dewstar gave his patrol members a moment to situate themselves and went to speak with Pebblefoot. "While I'm on patrol, you'll be in charge for a bit, okay?" He nudged his deputy goodheartedly, one of his good friends, as they had trained together as 'paws. He was definitely someone you could rely on and the type of cat that would make a fantastic leader one day. He backed away and stood next to Sparrowpaw, calling, "Wolfheart!" The WillowClan leader figured that bringing a mentor-apprentice duo would give Sparrowpaw a chance to practice his hunting skills with Wolfheart. He sat with Pebblefoot, waiting patiently for the two to join him. It's not like they didn't have time but the silver and white tom wanted to get going.

Dovepaw blinked out of her daze and looked back up at Oakfall as he spoke. It wasn't worth fighting any more. "Alright, I can wait," She agreed. "But what exactly are we doing?" She has to trot to keep up with her mentor and Palepaw, who were both larger that her in size. "Ooohh, and can we practice fighting today too? I think I'm already pretty good, if I do say so myself!" She took a step back then raced foreword, leaping into the air with claws unsheathed, managing to spear a few red leaves on her thorn-sharp claws as she fell. She fell back into step with the two other cats, chest puffed out proudly.
