Elton silently poured boiling water into a pail, and picked up a mop from the cupboard. He added some soap, and walked towards the main dining room, where he went to the far corner to start his task. He dipped the mop inside the water, taking his time to do so. Mopping wasn't something that bothered him; in fact, he rather enjoyed it. It gave him time to think, and it wasn't very hard. As he pushed it across the floor, his thoughts drifted towards the time in his life where he had lived with his family.
I'm not even sure if I miss that, Elton sighed, his grip tightening on his tool. How could his parents have been so selfish? They could have given them money; but their own son? He shook his head, flicking a strand of hair out of his face. He didn't think it was right.
As he continued his job, he wondered what was in store for that day. Perhaps he would go down to the town, if he got assigned something to do there. It was more interesting than being here, that was for sure. Going to buy supplies for the royal family was something that happened on rare occasion for Elton; there were so many servants to pick from, and he was usually roped into doing something around here.
His little mouse, Leo, scuttled up from his pocket where he had been sleeping. He reached up and picked him up, giving him a small piece of corn that he had taken from the lunch that was being prepared in the kitchen. Leo took it gratefully, eating it on his shoulder. "Gee, Leo, it's so easy to please you," he said affectionately, smiling as he dipped the mop into the pail again. One small piece of food, and Leo was thrilled to bits. But I, on the other hand, won't ever be happy again. The thought at first had bothered him when he had come to the palace, but now he was used to the idea. No matter how hard he worked, he would be at this forever; his sentence to the palace was not likely to be lifted.
(Could someone's character meet him? >:D)
