((This calls for a flash back!))
Kyrasael could remember the day he last saw her shining blue eyes and brilliant white and gray coat. Her soft and loving expression. He wished not to remember, but his obligation… his promise…
_______________
The sounds of cooing birds singing their bright happy songs filled his ears, the sun shining bright as the thin trees of the woods gave little foliage to hide the rays that filtered down upon the group. Kyrasael, a young black furred wolf stood there. A happiness glittering in his eyes that he no longer had now, eyes bright as they shone of the light of the sun. He stood facing his former-mate, her bright white coat giving a soft glow in the light as if she were divinity, with clear crystal blue eyes and few gray spots on her coat. She looked sad, ears at the side with a longing expression in her eyes as she stood wearily, almost as if she hadn’t slept in days.
“I’ll do my best to find that herb for you, Marcel. Please wait for me.” he said softly, licking her nose. She softly licked his cheek as well. Kyrasael… his mate was sick. She had been that way for a long time, but only now had he found out. And he was willing to do anything to have her get better. The only way was a white cotton like flower herb with the medicinal properties said to even cure blindness.
“Please, don’t go.” She whispered, softly snuggling her head on his shoulder blade, and he did the same.
“I must. You’ll die without-” He didn’t get another word in before she interrupted.
“If I can be with you when my world ends, it’ll be enough for me!” She shouted, eyes watering. Pleading him desperately not to leave her. Not even for a day, not for an hour. She didn’t want him to go anywhere.
“Marcel… don’t say things like that… I’ll make sure we can live happily together.” He whispered, softly pulling away. But then, he received the most unexpected reaction.
“Then, promise me…. Promise me that you will always follow your heart. Promise me… that you will never forget who you are and what you believe in. Please… vow me this, that you will be you, wherever you go. Or else, do not return to me.” Marcel said. Her heart breaking inside as she said this, turning her head away. The three other wolves accompanying her was the healer, her sister, and her male friend.
“I swear to it, my most cherished and beloved…” He moved to give her a final goodbye before his parting. But she stepped away, turning and walking back towards base. Kyrasael stood there, at a loss. He lowered his head some, looking at the three others. “Take care of her while I am away.” He said before turning away himself. The two wolves parting their ways, and soon, the other three followed Marcel as well. Leaving in silence as Kyrasael left with his tail turned to them. Eyes strait forward, hoping for the best.
_______________
Kyrasael let out a pained whimper, bellowing another soft howl. But this one was so short and choked, it was as if his soul had been taken away and all there was left was an empty shell of regret. Kyrasael did not want to remember this… But he had promised Marcel, he had promised her to do what his heart always told him to do- to follow the full lush heart he once had that was now broken. He had to keep this promise, he just had to!
It was the reason he was here. Because he had owed them his life for saving him, and would repay them, just as his old self would. Perhaps it was what he would do now as well… maybe it was just buried so deep he couldn’t find it under the sorrow.
