Whoever thought up the terminology didn't really consider how it feels to have illiterate used as an insult and probably should have at least considered the definition.

I agree with you 100%.

Okay! Just got back; Overall, AMAZING! But being the unprofessional movie critic that I am, I'm going to talk about elves. Because one in particular failed to impress me.

Tauriel.

I felt that her character was rather poor and archetyped, as though they copied Arwen, added more fight scenes and threw in the hapless 'oh, i don't know what to do: my best friend or this random dwarf?' thing.

To be fair, I even accepted the weird love triangle. It wasn't that bad - when we weren't seeing Tauriel's side of it. Legolas did a good job of being reserved but caring, and Kili was charming and romantic. But Tauriel failed to be anything but 'Oh, what do I do?" or "Oh no! Legolas likes me but I don't like him back! But I don't want to make him feel bad so I'll leave this random conversation hanging and not touch on it for the whole movie." or "Do I go with Legolas, my good friend and comrade, fighting Orcs like I said I was doing? Or should I help this dwarf I hardly know? Oh, no - he's crying out in pain! But Legolas is off to fight the Orcs! What ever shall I do?" I was disappointed; I expected her to be a fierce female warrior; she turned out to be half that, half...indecisive love triangle girl.

Sorry; I'm sorta ranting. XD

To close about Tauriel, I think a different actress and a more decisive character would have made her really great.

I think my only other thing was that Thranduil was so dramatic! It was almost comical.

I also thought it was a little odd that none of the dwarves could figure out any of the puzzles; it was always Bilbo.

Smaug was AWESOME, though, and Legolas, as usual, was Legolas. *sigh* It was pretty awesome overall, though - these were just my thoughts on improvements that could be made.

Sorry if I offended any Tauriel-lovers. Maybe I was a little harsh on her.

I met tauriel, well the actress who played her at least and she was super nice even to us extras. She even goofed around with us a bit between takes

Personally, despite the fact that Tauriel is not in the book, and she's kind of just there in the movie and the love interest thing seems kind of forced.
Her point is to make us more sympathetic towards Kili. Because those who have read the books know what happen to him and Fili and Thorin. And to make the movie not a total guyfest.

As for your thing about bilbo solving all the problems, he kind of does that in the book, it's in the source material. So Eh, I don't have a big problem with it.

It was the big overblown barrel scene and the stuff in the mountain and the fact that they cut out my freaking favourite little poem/song thing from the book, pulled the side stuff to the front, making it seem like it's a prequal to LotR rather than the hobbit, the book I adored when I was a kid. I like the first film more, it was more hobbity, rather than LotRy

Seriously
the hobbit the book to me as much as I remember at least is
The dinner party at bag end complete with the songs
riddles in dark
and the spiders of mirkwood complete with the attacop song.

Yeah, I could see that. And I totally get adding a feminine touch. I do feel bad for Kili, but I feel that they could have done more with her character.

That's so cool that you got to meet her! I don't doubt that she was nice, but my mom and I just don't tend to like her movies.

I didn't really mind that Bilbo solved everything, but it seemed a little weird.
