Quoxic (q + toxic. Is it just me, or does that squiggle look like a q?)
Extra 1: Story
Quoxic opened his eyes to the bleak darkness of his cell. His imprisonment would be so much better, if only there was a bit of light. He still had no memory of arriving in the place. He suspected that the E.T.R. (Environmental Threats Removed) was involved. The other doughnuters had often whispered behind his back about his toxicity, but they had never been able to prove it. He was never accused to his face, so he learned to ignore the whisperers. It had been a complete surprise, when he woke up one day to the darkness of a sack. He eventually fought his way free, only to find himself just as blind as before, and in the same cell he was still in now. It was impossible to tell the time or day of the outside world, but he had developed his own internal clock. He was reasonably certain that he’d been there a few months at least and a year at the most. Every day was boring and tedious. Whoever stuck him in here gave him nothing to do but think and pace. To avoid insanity, he sang and recited every piece of poetry or song he could remember. The most interesting thing that happened was what he called “the Waterfall.” Water poured from a facet well above his reach, into a bowl, twice a day. It was a miserable way to live. He might die of boredom before long.
Suddenly, static sounds squealed from a hidden speaker. He cringed away from the sound and covered his ears. That hadn't happened before. “Attention. Your probationary period has proved that you no longer require solitary confinement in the E.T.R. continued quarantine department. Proceed to the end of the hallway for further instructions. In a moment, a door will open. To prevent shock, please cover your eyes.”
Quoxic smiled in amazement that his darkness was almost at an end. When the door opened, his faced it head-on, eyes wide.
