"fine." chases mom said briskly then brightened slightly. "would you like to stay for dinner emily?" Chase looked over at emily, hoping she sliently got the.message that that was a bad idea. His mom always did this. Dinner then an interogation that usually scared the girl away.

Emily smiled but shook her head. "No thank you. I have to eat with my family since it's a tradition. " she said softly as she looked at his mom. Then she blushed slightly and looked at the ground. She was trying to figure out why his mother was like this. It's not like they hadn't been friends for a long time.
