Xani
- Female - 21 - Fighter -

Just as Xani leaned down to grab the buck's carcass, someone approached her. She stepped back and looked up, coming face to face with the hunter Kahleel. She barely knew the male, though he seemed rather nice for the most part. He must have either missed the hunt or chosen not to join in, for he had neither blood nor sweat in his fur anywhere. Xani, on the other hand was covered in both. She hadn't washed herself off just yet, knowing that dragging the bodies back would be hard work.

"That would actually be very nice of you. That way, no one else will have to make a second trip." The beta motioned with her head to the only deer that had remained untouched, another buck lying near her own. Without waiting another moment, Xani bent down and grabbed the neck of her own buck firmly. Digging in her feet, she started back towards the cave. This trip was longer and harder than the first, only because the body was much heavier than the first. As she made it back to the group, she dumped it and walked into the cave.

Upon entering, she scanned the area to see if everyone there was alright. Those that were hungry were slowly filing out towards the deer, happiness etched on their faces. Xani wanted nothing more than to just sleep for a long time. However, Resin was currently asleep. She trotted towards her to check on her, pausing when she saw Ahote there. He spoke, but Resin was either slow in waking or still sleeping.

Taking a seat, Xani turned to Ahote. "Not sure if you heard, but she made me beta..." There were still mixed feelings about her promotion. She was happy, but not sure if she deserved it at the same time. She stood, stretching a bit. A yawn escaped her as she shook her head. Moving forward, she rested her forehead against Ahote's side for a brief second before stepping back. "I guess I'll go keep watch for a while. It's easier, since there's only one opening." She turned, trotting away from the pair with a tired sigh. As she reached the cave entrance, she returned to her previous spot. This time, she remained sitting, her ears perked for any strange noises.

((Hehehe sorry, Soriams. I'll try to cut back on posts so everyone can keep up. I just get ideas and have to write them down.))

Resin- Alpha Female- 40 Summers

Though she had been sleeping, a small warmth to her side prompted her to open one eye. There, nestled against her slept Azaria. The young pup had recently lost her mother and, other than Resin, had no family remaining. Her father, Thorn, had been Resin's fathers brother, making him her uncle, which made his offspring her cousin. The young wolf, only five summers old, had already experienced the loss of both parents. Her mother had been lost in the recent attack by the rabid wolves and had been washed downstream. Raising her large head, she licked the pup between the ears a few times, grooming her fur before settling back down and falling asleep once more.

Later, voices woke her. Again she cracked one eye, the citrine color shining from her place in the shadows. She noted Xani resting her head on Ahote and smirked. Once the female had gone, she said "My... aren't you the popular one?" His worried ministrations amused her and she laughed softly, allowing him to lap at her face. "A doe caught me by surprise. I was about to eat her calf, so I don't blame her. She joined him shortly after, but not before she gave me this." With her muzzle, she motioned to the wound. It had stopped bleeding, but the remnants were still upon her foreleg.

"Don't worry. I used to be a fighter, remember? I've had much worse than this." Returning his gesture, she ran her tongue over his cheek. "Don't worry," she reiterated. "I just need rest. It's a good thing we found this cave. It's easy to defend." She watched as Xani exited the cave to take watch. "Could you tell her to move the remains away from the den? The smell will definitely attract predators and if we can avoid leading them here, we should." She didn't mention his episode of anxiety today. They both knew what had caused it, so there really was no need. She simply slid her muzzle along his, resting it there momentarily. The gesture meant that her ears were open if he needed them.

She adjusted her position, raising her head carefully as to not wake Azaria. "I've made her Beta. I think she needs the responsibility." The dark female smiled faintly. "She thinks that I either don't trust her or like her, but it's quite the opposite. I see too much of myself in her so we're bound to butt heads. I know she's capable. She just needs to know that she is." With a yawn, she shook her head, sending her black ruff swaying back and forth. A wince followed. The action had pulled at the wound, but the pain was quickly forgotten.

"You should talk to her. She trusts you. There was a moment today where she froze and was almost trampled. I had to knock her out of the way. We didn't get a chance to talk about it. I'm not sure if she even feels anything about it, but just in case." A light shrug was given before she yawned yet again, flashing her curved killing fangs before sheathing them once again within the cavern of her maw. "If you could send Curse to me, I'd like to have a word with her before I sleep."

Hrafn- Hunter- 46 Summers

He'd settled down to eat again and was pleased when Xani joined him. His thickly furred black tail thumped happily a few times. After swallowing the mouthful that he had, he greeted her with a deep, rumbling, "Hello." He was glad that she came back to eat beside him.

Again he mused over how well the hunt had gone. Everyone would be sufficiently fed and the herd hadn't traveled that far away, so they would be able to pick them off as needed. Very convenient. It was better to save their energy for the hunt rather than waste it all on tracking game. Hrafn bit off a few more mouthfuls, relishing the warm meat as it slid down his throat and into his stomach. There truly was nothing like a fresh, warm meal.

Once he'd had enough, he rose to a sitting position. Languidly, he cleaned the blood from his forelegs and muzzle. He also noted that Xani had some blood on the tip of one ear, so he cleaned that off while he was at it. Whether or not she was okay with casual cleaning, he didn't know, but he also didn't care. It was dirty and she couldn't reach her own ear, now could she. So there he sat, watching the others fill their stomachs then begin to drag their kills back towards the cave.

Relieving himself of the kill, he still couldn't force himself into the cave, so he simply sat outside, watching the others eat. When Xani appeared, he greeted her, then questioned her. "What happened with the Alpha today? First she was killing things then she wandered off after growling at some other wolf. Is she alright?" He assumed that she would know, now that she was Beta and all.

Xani
- Female - 21 - Fighter -

As Xani started scanning, she heard a voice next to her. She hadn't really paid any mind to it, but now noticed that Hrafn was sitting next to her. A slight heat rose in her cheeks, mostly in embarrassment at how he licked her ear earlier. No one had ever really touched her before, much less in such a friendly way. She had ignored it at the time, but now that she thought back on it... He was just a big flirt, wasn't he? She just shook her head before bending down to rub the blood from her muzzle onto the snow.

"I don't really know all of it. She was eating, then she got attacked by the mother of her meal. It was a doe, but her antlers were severely sharp. She was injured, though she didn't seem too worried about it." Thinking back, she couldn't really remember Resin going anywhere else except back to the cave with her kill. She shrugged, scanning the horizon for a moment before continuing. "The next thing I knew, she was gone. Right now, I know she's in there sleeping." A yawn escaped her again, but she just shook it off.

"Ahote is in there with her now, and I told him to watch her for a while. I just hope that she isn't injured..." Sighing, she looked at the ground for a moment. Today had been busy again. Not heartbreaking, not in the least. Still, it was quite tiring and she wanted nothing more than to sleep. She knew her duties came first, however, and that knowledge alone kept her upright and vigilant.

Hrafn- Hunter- 46 Summers

Shifting, he slid to the ground beside her, licking at his forelegs just in case he'd missed something. Sure enough the taste of blood met his tongue. Sometimes it was hard to tell with black fur. Perking his ears, he listened to Xani's explanation and nodded. "I'm sure she'll be fine. She'd tell you if she wasn't, right?" He continued, flipping a paw over to clean that as well while he was at it. "She's a tough old bird."

Casting his dark amber gaze in the females direction, he noted the exhaustion etched into her face. "Everyone has to sleep, you know. You had a long day." Cat like, he licked his paws and ran them over his muzzle. "I, on the other paw, am not tired in the slightest. Sleep, if only for a little while. I'll keep watch." Knowing that she would most likely argue, he continued by saying, "I'm not new to the responsibility game. I used to run my own pack. Guarding a cave entrance will be nothing and no one will think less of you for taking care of yourself."

She had missed a spot on one cheek, so, being the gentleman that he was, he leaned over and lapped at the bloodied fur until it was clean. Satisfied with his work, he settled back. "Sleep," he said once more. "I'll wake you in a bit." Laying beside her, he noted their differences. He quite liked the contrast between his jet black coat and her lighter multicolored one. An odd thought, he said to himself inside his head, but an interesting one, nonetheless. He fluffed said coat, prepared to share his warmth with the hopefully soon to be sleeping femme.

Re: இ۵Ŗace Ågainst ₦atureஇ۵(Semi-Lit Wolf RP) OPEN

Postby Soriams » Tue Dec 17, 2013 6:25 pm

((LOL, no worries Resin! It was just funny because I had started writing like three things in my head and then just none of them ended up working. I like the pace actually, it keeps me excited for it. Though I never mind waiting, I definitely look forward to reading everyones posts.))

Ahote
Male | 46 | Fighter
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

Concerned for Resin, especially since she seemed to be slow to wake, Ahote never even heard Xani's approach. Thus he startled at the sound of her voice, but as the meaning of it sunk in he turned to her. "Ah, no I hadn't. Seems as though there are a lot of things I've been missing recently," he said, managing a smile for the ex-fighter even though he still felt sick to his stomach. "Resin made a good choice. I couldn't think of anyone better for the position," he continued, turning slightly as she pressed her head into his side so that he could return the gesture at least in part. At her mention of keeping watch he nodded. "That's fine. I'll come relieve you in a bit. I haven't eaten yet so I might as well stay up for awhile." He watched he her turn to leave, but then almost as an afterthought he called after her. "Congratulations Beta... Keep up the good work."

The sound of Resin's voice drew Ahote's attention, and seeing her awake brough a genuine smile to his face. A great wash of the worry and fear from earlier washed out of him and he let out a quiet sigh. "Yes, that is the trouble with those pesky mothers..." he replied, turning serious as she motioned to the wound. Of course, they had all had their scrapes and more than a few bruises, but the location still worried him. Even a fighter didn't have as much muscle and skin on their chest, nor the thick protective fur that lined their shoulders and backs. Tenderly, he cleaned her fur around the wound while she spoke, careful not to bring her any more pain.

Gently, Resin turned Ahote's muzzle from her wound, and for a moment he looked deeply into her sulfur colored eyes, holding them with his amber, so alike and yet so different. It almost felt as though he was seeing her for the first time, not just the grey wolf who was alpha, more than his friend and leader, but actually her. The Resin that everyone knew was there beneath the mantle of responsibility, but seldom saw. Finally, it became too much for the gentle wolf and he looked away, feeling warmth rise to his face.

Resin asked him to see that the leftovers were moved, then reiterated what Xani had just told him. Ahote nodded, not looking up to meet her eyes again. "Yes, I agree. There is more strength in her than I have ever seen in a wolf her age. The others already look up to her, and she will make a fine Beta," he replied. Though there may have been those whose pride would have been wounded by her choice, Ahote was not one of them. He too admired Xani and thought highly of her. Beyond that, she had made great strides in dealing with her anger and hurt, which was something he himself had struggled with. While he thought, his Alpha continued and he eventually looked back to her when she mentioned Xani's near miss. "I don't blame her for that... That is a place no wolf should be," he said in a firm voice. He had seen for himself the damage a herd of panicked animals could do.

Ahote softened then though and touched Resin's cheek. "I'll make sure she finds her way back," he said, "But please take care of yourself, Dark Lady. I'd be lost without you." Though his words were simple, they held an unintended gravity. To have said 'I' instead of 'we' betrayed something of his inner thoughts that even he had not come to terms with yet. The Fighter took his leave then, knowing that she should rest, and he wanted to find Curse before she bedded down herself. Thus he lingered only long enough to take that drink of water he had been wanting before heading out.

Exiting the Cave, Ahote paused next to Xani, "Resin mentioned that it would be a good idea to move the leftovers a bit away from the cave. I will wait until everyone is done then see that they are moved back to the trail. That way, anything following it up will just stop there and hopefully leave us alone," he said, looking over his happy pack-mates as they finished their meal. Taking his leave of Xani as well, he grabbed one of the vacant carcasses and drug it with him, doing a bit of multitasking on his way to look for Curse.

Ahote left the body at the head of the trail, where it was decently far away, but still close enough that it would be within sight of Xani. He then continued on down to where the others still gathered to eat their fill. Inspecting a pack of feeding wolves, even great wolves with all their eloquence, was a dangerous task, and the Fighter made sure to keep his distance until he found his intended target. Stepping up beside Curse at a respectable distance, he cleared his throat to get her attention. "Curse, when you're done, Resin said she wanted to see you. She's inside if you wouldn't mind going to see her," he said, then left her to her meal. Starting to feel hungry himself, he picked up a few loose scraps as he turned to go, a nice quick snack to tide him over while he finished his work.

By the time Ahote made his way back up towards the cave, Hrafn had returned and now sat next to Xani. He was glad to see that she had a bit of company for the moment, even if it was unwanted. What was left now was pretty much deserted, as much of the kill had been dismembered and those who were still hungry had carried off what they wanted to eat in peace. Thus, Ahote moved the remaining leftovers, and sat down to eat himself. Any of the hunters returning with their kills would see the pile and leave theirs with it, as he doubted anyone would want to move them further than absolutely necessary.

Eating his fill off a nice piece of haunch, he then worked the leg loose and took his prize back to the cave entrance. Laying down in the snow on the other side of the entrance from Xani and Hrafn, he looked over to them. "If you two would like to get some rest, I think I'm going to be up for awhile," he said, giving them a bit of a smile. He then turned back to his bone and began chewing on it, enjoying the comforting feeling of his teeth scraping bone.

Lani
Female | 57 | Hunter
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

The instant Lani saw the reindeer scatter, she bolted from cover, hot on the heels of the retreating herd. Though the stout female looked anything but speedy, she was truly in her element and dove fearlessly into the fracas. Dodging hooves and slipping through the crush of bodies, she snapped at whatever she could get her teeth on. Finally, as she ran them ever closer into the waiting jaws of the fighters and other large wolves, she saw her chance and latched onto the neck of a doe that ran next to her. Her added weight quickly brought the animal down to the ground and she finished it easily. Just in time too, because as she rose up licking her lips, she spotted another doe running straight towards her. Without a second thought, she leapt at it, managing to sink her teeth into its nose in such a way that sent both of them flipping end over end. Completely unhurt from the fall, after all, Lani was far to stubborn for that, she stayed attached to the beast until she managed to throttle it.

Resin's call rang out then, and Lani looked up from her second kill, grinning at the wolves around her. Not caring to wait, she eagerly dug into the doe at her feet, ferreting out some of the best parts for herself. Thus, her head was completely engulfed by its abdomen when a commotion started outside. Pulling her bloodied head out, Lani looked something like a woodpecker with a scarlet head and white body, and she slowly padded over to where Resin was, surrounded by other wolves. Seemed as though something had happened while Lani was otherwise occupied, and she let out a bit of a huff. Twas nothing but a scratch, and everyone was fawning over her like it was a death blow. Whatever, she thought, Xani and the others would surely take care of so she turned to go back to her food. On her way, she sees Garner snap at that poor young brute he had been harassing earlier. Soon enough, he gets his comeuppance as Resin sees his actions and quickly puts him in is place.

Padding over to the miffed brute, Lani looks at his crosswise, "What's gotten into you Garner? He's just a pup!" she said, sounding a bit exasperated with her fellow hunter.

"He smells of death... Like that wolf that killed Ash. He shouldn't be here," Garner growled, glaring, narrow-eyed at Kuolema who had been pushed out of the throng of wolves. Perhaps he was a bit unstable, or just tense from recent events, but at any rate he wasn't know for his keen wits.

"Oh pshaw you coward. You never even smelled him. Hid behind Attican and Ahote like the rest of us when he was out there howling his threats. So how would you know his scent?" Lani was anything if not direct, and with a flip of her tail she walked away from the sulking male and over towards Kuolema. "Come on, pup, come eat and then you can help this old lady drag one of her deers back up that hill," Lani said to the younger wolf, inviting him to eat beside her.

Next to hunting, Eating was by far Lani's favorite pastime and she was quite accomplished at it. She sat herself down and began chewing once more, taking her time and nibbling from every part of the animal and savoring the taste of each. During this time, Resin and Xani both took trips up to the caves as well as Hrafn. Ahote came and went and the sun moved overhead and still she ate. It wasn't until he stomach sagged heavily beneath her that she finally got up and rolled herself in the snow to prepare herself for the trip back.

Wolf
Male | 20 | Straggler
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

Wolf spent most of the morning lounging around by his reindeer herd, watching while the little group of animals continually pawed at the snow and ate. It was simply amazing that they could do absolutely nothing but eat all day and not get bored. For his part, Wolf only bothered to search for food when he was hungry and then spent the rest of his time puzzling on himself and his place in this world. Originally, he had planned to move on by midday and perhaps scrounge up a meal of baby mice. He had gotten quite good at using his nose to sniff out their nests from below the snow.

However, today was not to be a normal day, and Wolf looks up when his herd begins to snort, looking up towards the Northern trees. Just faintly he can pick up the sound of hooves and he sits to watch curiously while the reindeer beside him panic and bolt southward. Within moments the largest herd of deer he had ever seen bursts forth from the forest as though hell itself were on their heels. Surprised, he moves a bit out of their path, and sits back on his haunches to watch as the great herd streams past.

After their passing, Wolf spots a great trail of crimson mixed in with the mass of hoof prints and churned snow. Curious, he wandered over to it, sniffing at the blood. It definitely belonged to the deer, and he lapped up the flavored ice with relish. Something must have been chasing them, and wounded at least a few of the beasts before they got away. It was strange, something that he hadn't encountered before, and the novelty of it was refreshing. What could have been so bold as to instill such fear into a herd that large? Whatever it was, he was interested in meeting it, or at the very least getting a glimpse of it before it killed him. Which was always a real possibility for the curious wolf. Unfortunately the same memory loss that had so opened his mind also eliminated the healthy amount of fear and respect he should of had for such an encounter.

For now however, it seemed like a better bet to follow the herd that had passed and pick up their leftovers. After all, there was a great amount of blood, and with any luck it came from a single animal and Wolf could eat well tonight. Thus, he shuffled off to the south, licking at the fallen blood on his way.

Xani
- Female - 21 - Fighter -

Xani turned her head slightly towards Hrafn as he spoke, a slight chuckle escaping her at his description of the alpha. His phrasing was one that had never crossed her mind. She also wasn't sure if Resin would snap or laugh if she ever heard that. He continued speaking, however, snapping her from her musings. Was it that obvious that she was tired? Fighting back another yawn, she mentally nodded. It really was.

She stretched a bit, shifting into a more comfortable position. Just as she let out a long breath and prepared to sleep, she froze. Hrafn was once more cleaning blood from her, though this time it was from her cheek. She tried to relax and not show that it bothered her, but it was very hard. As he pulled back, she sighed gratefully. Hopefully he would take it as thanks. Just as she curled up beside him, she heard someone approaching.

Peering up, Xani's eyes landed on Ahote. She moved to rise, but Ahote just spoke and then went ahead with his plans. The beta wanted to help move them, but she couldn't make her legs work to lift her up. She watched him for a moment, sighing slightly. The way he acted definitely showed the former alpha in him. Meaning that he's a good fit for a new alpha... Sighing again, she closed her eyes.

A small, chill wind blew through suddenly, making her shiver. It wasn't anything big, but it was enough to annoy the sleep-deprived fae. Subconsciously, she scooted closer to the warmest thing around, which happened to be the dark brute next to her. She snuggled her back against his side, her minute shivers disappearing upon contact.

Curse/Isis
{{Fae||fighter||36||resting||

She'd eaten her fill, and then dragged one of the Reindeer back to the cave, slumping in the snow as she licked blood from her fur, she sighed in contentment. It was an odd feeling to be this full of food, sense the years sense the murder of her pack, she'd only eaten what she could catch on her own. She knew when she'd joined the Scarpaw pack, she'd been skinny, underweight, but with just a few good meals in her, she was beginning to feel herself again. But, perhaps she thought there was more then a good meal in her, that was clearing her head of all the pain and sorrow. She blinked from her thoughts as Ahote approached her. She glanced at him studying the brute silently, she would have been stupid to be unaware of what was going on between, Ahote, the Alpha Resin and Xani.

She waited for him to speak, and when his words entered her ears, she nodded and rose to her feet, Stretching she shook herself out before rubbing her face in the snow to rid it of any blood, before she headed into the cave. Pausing a few steps from Resin, she studied the sleeping Alpha, her eyes making note of the red wolf pup curled against The Alpha's side.

"She has lost much," She said softly approaching closer. "But haven't we all," She said mildly before laying herself down near enough to the Alpha to hear her speak, but not to close as to be encroaching on her space.

He nodded his thanks to the alpha, then listened as the he defended by the old female who had taken the time to talk to him a short while ago. He bowed his head in thanks, and soon joined her at her meal, then dragging the reindeer back towards the cave. It was heavy now that it was dead, he ignored the looks of some of the wolves who eyed him with disdain. Ranick had told him he would find his life where the resin rain strong, and what was stronger then an Alpha Wolf named Resin he wondered. He trotted a distance away from the pack though, trying to ease any tension he was making the other wolves feel due to his scent. He rubbed and rolled himself through the snow, cleaning the blood from his fur, once he felt relatively clean he found a space to curl up in and did just that, but sleep did not come. Memories did.

Seven seasons ago, his father had found a wolf, injured and limping as quickly as it could in a direction, his father had insisted that this wolf was another one, that had cost them, his mother. The young wolf, who sported no name, because his father had never taken the time to give him one, didn't agree. He loved the mother he never knew, loved the thought of her, the warm smell he could just barley remember. He loved her, but this seemed wrong to him, going about the world and killing those they came across in the name of Isis, his mother. He followed though silently, until they came upon the wolf. His father lunged in for the attack with out a word, but he coudln't allow it, with a leap he knocked his father aside, and stood over the cowering injuried old wolf.

His father's anger had nearly been enough to make him give in, but he stood his ground and bared his fangs at him, chasing Drago off, ignoring the bellowed threats from a distance. He helped the elder to his feet and stayed with him til they reached the pack. Once he was sure, the wolf was safe, he made himself a den near by and waited. He could hear whispers from the pack, they continued calling him one word, when the elder came out to him, and gave him food, he asked what it meant.

"It is our people's words for death and son, my pack is calling you The Son of Death, Kuolema," He responded.

The pup blinked looking thoughful he nodded. "It is my name then," He said mildly.

"It is a good name, do good things with it," Ranick responded with a gentle lick to his ear.

Eight years he had lived with this pack, feeling like he belonged, until Ranick with his dying breath and told him to leave, to go south, the ancestors would guide him. To find where The Resin was strong. And he'd gone, as ordered.
And now he was here, and how he missed the lahota Pack, and there odd way of speaking, but here he was, just as Ranick had predicted. And again, being shunned because of his scent and who he was. But the most important thing was, the Old Fae, Lani had told him, that this other fae, Curse was his mother...his perfect wonderful Isis.

Kona
11-female-nonrank-asleep

Kona was chasing a fat brown hare. As it swerved to the side, she brought her weight down upon it, crushing it and snapping its neck. Happily, she dug into her kill, watching the sunlight fall and scatter on the ground. A butterfly moved several yards away, and she resisted the urge to chase after it. Kona took in a deep breath of sweet summer grass and fresh meat to fill her belly. Contentedly, she gnawed at her kill. After she had sated her appetite, Kona stood up to trot back to her pack.

That was when she realized-- she didn't know where her pack was. They were gone, and she was all alone. The air seemed colder, the birds stopped chirping, and everything became darker. The content, summery scene was gone, just like that. Kona backed into a tree, suddenly afraid. Where had they gone? Why had they left? She was alone in the dark, ominous forest. There was no Ahote, no Mirage, no Attican or Iparok. There was no Resin. Kona felt lost and alone. She heard growls, and shrank back. She blinked, and then her parents stood before her, shining bright in the shadows.

"Look at you," scoffed her mother. "Afraid of a little shade?"

Kona could only tremble.

"Worthless, unfaithful daughter!" scorned her father. "When we stayed in the North, you should have stayed with us, your parents! Instead, you went off following that foolish Resin, in search of a
vision!"

"Now where are you?" her mother sneered. "Cold and alone, while we are fat and healthy. You fool! you should have stayed in the North with us!"

Kona whimpered. Why did she feel so sad? Where was her anger? "Mother, Father--"

"Do not call us that!" snarled her parents. "You abandoned us and now you shall pay! Your entire pack is doomed to fail, along with you and your precious Resin!"

"No!" shouted Kona. She felt warmth returning to her body as she yelled, as her rage pumped through her veins. "No! You are wrong! Resin knows where to go, and has never led us astray! I will follow her wherever she takes us, because she is my Alpha and I trust her! We
will reach the South, and it will be you who is cold and alone and starving! The ice will take you, but it will not take us!"
Her parents howled like the winter wind.

"You will fail," they screamed, but Kona ignored them.

Kona jolted awake. Some wolf she knew vaguely was poking her side anxiously. Most of the cave inhabitants were staring at her. Remembering her nightmare, she felt her skin get hot. She must have been thrashing around like she was infected with the madness.
"It was-- just a dream," she muttered, and stalked out of the cave to sit by the entrance and wait for the hunters miserably.

After a long while of waiting and shivering, Kona finally saw them coming back, each dragging a caribou carcass. Resin was at the front of the line, and Kona gasped when she saw the gash on her chest. She waited until most of them had deposited their catches, and before eating, bounded up to Ahote, as he was nearest. "What happened to Resin? Is she okay?" she asked, eyes wide. "It looks bad!"

Iparok
22-male-hunter-eating

"No worries, pup. I'll take it out of your hide later."

Iparok reflected on Lani's words as he struggled to drag a carcass back. Had she been joking? Most likely, but with her it was hard to tell. Iparok got a firmer hold on the old cow's scruff. He was built for speed, not for strength, he thought grumpily as he strained to tug the limp thing along after the others. During the struggle, he hadn't been able to take out his own reindeer. Not really. He had seen some other hunter injure a cow, but then abandoned it to try another. Iparok had basically nipped right in and finished off the crippled thing. He was ashamed, but there was nearly no way that he could take out a reindeer on his own. Hell, he could barely drag one on his own. Iparok was already trailing several lengths behind the others, and it was mostly sheer embarrassment and determination that kept him going.

Lost in thought, Iparok almost stumbled into a tree. He fixed his gaze back on the path of blood and churned up snow and dirt that the ones before him had left.

He remembered when Garner had attacked that new wolf. Iparok didn't know much about the young'un, but he seemed a decent wolf. Garner had been overreacting. Everyone smelled funny once in a while. Iparok had felt a sort of amusement seeing Lani yelling at Garner.

Finally, the line of triumphant hunters reached the cave. Gratefully, Iparok sank down, releasing his hold on the cow. His jaws were hurting and his neck and aching, but he still managed to rip into the belly of the caribou before the others flocked to it, snagging himself a tasty piece of liver and a chunk of a hindquarter. He dragged them back a bit, waiting for the others to drift away from the kill. He edged closer, nestling up against the still-warm carcass. It sheltered him from the wind, and he silently ate and observed the goings-on.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw that bossy pup, Kona, rum up to Ahote. Probably asking about the hunt, or Resin's condition.
Iparok hadn't seen the actual wounding of the Alpha, but he'd seen others rushing to the scene, and he saw Resin suffocating the grief-enraged beast. He shrugged to himself and continued tearing at the soft liver.

((Just not feeling it today, so this is going to be short.))

Resin- Alpha Female- 40 Summers

The intent behind Ahote's words did not go unnoticed. A slight grin tugged at the corners of her dark maw and she nodded before placing her head on her paws. "You don't have to worry about that. The ancestors have plans for me. I don't think they'd let me be killed off just yet." She watched him walk away, only noticing later that her tail had begun involuntarily swishing behind her. Being appreciated and needed for a reason other than her rank was a good feeling.

She was still quite tired, but fought to keep herself away as she waited for Curse to appear. Since she was doing nothing else, she once again began to groom the sleeping pups coat. Over the past few days a few mats had formed so, using her canines, she gently untangled them then licked the wild red fur smooth. The Alpha supposed that it was now her duty to take primary care of the pup. Others would have to help since she had too much responsibility to watch her constantly, but she would still care for the young one when she could.

Finally Curse approached, settling herself a short distance away. Her words met Resin's ears and she nodded, gaze cast towards the pup. "Aye. We've all lost much. Some more than others. No matter how much you lose, however, there are only two choices: Let it eat you from the inside out or grow stronger and thrive. I believe this pup will do the latter." She turned her attention back to the other dark coated female. "You wished to speak with me about something. Things happened and I'd entirely forgotten until now, which I apologize for. What's on your mind, Curse?" Crossing her large black paws, she waited patiently for the other female to share her thoughts and concerns.

Hrafn- Male Hunter- 46 Summers

He was slightly surprised when Xani agreed to let him take watch. He assumed that she would put up some sort of fight. When she nestled against him for warmth, he released a pleased murr from deep within his chest. It was almost cat like in nature. How he had missed physical contact in all the years that he'd been alone.

Soon Ahote appeared and spoke, then went about his duties. Hrafn felt no ill will towards the brute, but he was glad when he walked away. Though he and Xani really felt nothing for each other, this felt like a personal moment and he didn't want it to be ruined.

After a time her breathing evened and he knew that she was asleep. The personal moment had passed and when Ahote appeared again and offered to take up sentry duty, Hrafn shook his block black head in the negative. When he spoke, his voice was soft so that he wouldn't wake the sleeping female beside him. "I'm not feeling very tired myself. You're welcome to watch as well if you like."

He grinned. "Then again, if you'd like to go keep watch on your lady friend, that's perfectly alright too. I can keep watch on my own." He hadn't meant it in a disrespectful way. Just some playful banter between brutes. "I hear that the wound she received was rather nasty today. She's definitely a trooper, that one. I probably would have complained a bit if I'd been speared by an antler." He hadn't been aware that he'd had so much respect to spare. The more he saw the Alpha at work, the more he felt that she was out of his league. Oh well. A bit of work and friendly competition would be enjoyable. Perhaps he would woo her anyway.

Curse/Isis
{{Fae||fighter||36||W/Resin||

She was silent for several long minutes after Resin finished speaking, she needed to word everything delicately so it was understood. "My name...is Isis...I was born, far to the north, further then the scarpaw pack, to highrelm, we lived in the mountains, everything we did was life or death." She paused studying her paws as she plotted out her next words. "I was born during a great storm, snow fell for weeks, we lost 15 pack mates to this storm, it was a killer storm, my father told me, when I was old enough to listen." She turned her head her yellow gaze distant as if she could see the black ice mountains she'd lived upon almost all of her life. "I never thought, in all my years I would leave those mountains, but as I grew older my brothers, Oketh, and Jaufer began to wander a far from the pack." She sighed softly a grim note to her face. "My mother died, some say she slipped some say she was pushed, none know what truly happened, her body was found at the bottom of the great peak, her body broken beyond repair, our keeper and my father took her to the ocean." She lowered her head. "When this happened, my brother's ranged even further, leaving the mountains behind, My father began seeing the ghost of my mother, and I would find him upon the highest peeks staring off in the direction of the great black sea. He would tell me, I can hear her Isis, I can hear her calling me."

She paused taking a deep breath, her face wrinkling. "In the Summer of my 19 year, Oketh returned with a beautiful, massive black wolf, with eyes the color of the sun. He was larger then my brothers, larger then my father, Larger even then our great Keeper, His name was Drago, and he told me the moon and the sun set in my eyes, he woo'ed me, told me stories of destiny, and I believed him. The spring of my 21st year...I birthed a litter of 5 pups, all as black as him," She swallowed. "As black as sin," She closed her eyes, "Drago came to see them once, and all he said before he left the Den was, They woudln't do, they were not right..." she shook her head, "I feared for my pups, and told Oketh and Jaufur as much, they told father...he promised me he would protect my pups...2 days later, he was found....dead as well, Then Jaufur, and finally Oketh, the pack spoke of a curse upon us, and Drago whispered that it was the Pups, they were a sin, they were dark and evil. He begged our keeper, to let him dash the pups off the ice rocks of our mountain home, and the keeper said the Ancestors agreed with Drago...my pups were taken from me....but their deaths did not stop the deaths, Pack members were being found torn to shreds as if by ice cats, but I began to see, late in my 22nd year when I was heavy with pups, I fled the pack."

"Drago found me, and before my eyes...killed all but the soft white pup, this pup he left to nurse by my side for 8 weeks, before he walked in, lifted it from my side and walked away, this was 14 years ago...I know now that, I...was not the Curse...but it was Drago...my name is Isis...and I'd...I'd like to be her again," She trailed off starring silently off into the distance a weak laugh left her. "I've never told a soul that, ever."
