Reign lay on the warm ground, curled around his sister, their heads on each other's backside. They always slept like this, and it'd become habit after a while. Their little nest lied right outside one of the old stalls of the barn, a spot worn down to bare earth by countless hoofsteps and footsteps, and now, paws. He'd been awake for a while now. He blinked at his sleeping sister, not wanting to stir her. It was rare that he would ever see her looking so peacefully; once she woke, he knew, her face would return to it's usual guarded expression.
It was late, he knew, and he could feel the blistering heat already. He knew he'd have to 'wake' soon, as much as he'd rather stay put. Heaving a mental sigh, he carefully lifted his head and slowly disentangled himself from Royale's sleeping figure. She wriggled at his movement and blinked blearily. "Morning, sweetheart," he said softly, adopting her own phrase for a moment. Lightly, he brushed his tail along her back, sweeping off stray bits of hay and straw that clung to her fur, before turning and loping out of the barn.
Reign shook his pelt, scattering the dust off his own fur, before stretching his body, his mouth open in a wide yawn. It's a beautiful day, today, he thought, looking up at the sky, before turning his attention to the group of wolves standing nearby. Rugger must be leading out a hunting party. "Good morning," he greeted his packmates.

Royale blinked as she felt her brother stir beside her, waking her from a dreamless sleep. She mumbled something that sounded like "hmmmm," in reply to Reign's 'good morning'. She waited for him to pad off before she yawned and stretched, pushing her weight to her feet. She blinked again, adjusting her eyes to the light. It was far too bright--she'd been asleep for too long. And it was just like her brother to let her. Shaking out her pelt, she walked to the entrance of the barn, nodding a greeting to her packmates and her brother before heading off. She'd figured that Rugger was organizing a hunting patrol. Hunting not being one of her strong suits, she didn't want to tag along and slow the group down. It'd be better for her to patrol.
She loped off farther into the stray pack's territory, slowing down once she was out of sight. Patroling by herself was probably one of the better parts of her day. She was fond of her packmates, but in the barn, and around so many dogs, she felt closed in. She supposed it was because she and Reign had lived alone for so long. She was still used to the wide open spaces. At least Reign seemed to fit in. A small, brief, affectionate smile lit her face for a moment at the thought of her brother. Shaking her pelt again, she turned and headed off towards the border. The southern one was closest, so she made off in that direction.
