I have a question: Would it be possible to have a whole herd of goennecs with long manes, and another herd somewhere else that had never seen a long mane? Or is it just a mutation that pops up occasionally?

I believe that manes, same as with tails, are a genetic occurrence passed down from the parents, so if it is a very dominant trait in a herd, it is possible for all of them to be long maned, same as if it is very recessive in another herd, they just wouldn't get it as often if at all. Mind you, this is just me speculating.

Most herds have some of everything, but long manes were favored in a herd, it's possible for the whole herd to become long-maned over time.
