Name: Southern Emperor 'South'
Gender: Male
Height: 18.3hh
Personality:
South is a very temperamental stallion. One minute, he'll jump any hurdle you ask of him and act like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. He can also be very affectionate and will often engage in mutual grooming with other equines, not just other Gianrhin. This was a major surprise to me, as I'd often read that they showed little or no affection to those outside their own species.
However, the next minute, he'll be refusing those very hurdles and refusing to anything you ask of him. I'm not sure why he is like this exactly, but I have worked out what the trigger for the latter part of his behaviour is. He has a sensitive spot on the very bottom of his hindquarters. If this is so much as tapped by a riding crop, hand or even brushed with a dandy brush, it sends him insane. I had the vet, an expert in all manner of equine ailments, come over to my stables and look at him and even he couldn't fathom it. He seems to think that it is more of a psychological issue and I just have to remember to avoid that area to ensure a good relationship with him. He also hates my dogs and my cats, snapping his jaws and pinning his ears back, making himself look almost like a bird of prey if they so much as appear in his line of sight.
He is truly one of the more wild and unpredictable of the Gianrhin, making him all the more interesting to me. Maybe one day we can settle our differences and form a mutual partnership...
