((Oh boy excitement and I don't have time to write much! LOL! I'll do my best here))

Curse
{{Fae||Straggler||Alone||

Curse woke as soon as Resin called them to attention, she hadn't been deeply asleep, something was still bothering her, something was still poking at the edge of her mind. She listens intently to what Resin has to say, agreeing with what the fae has to say. She glances towards Xani, and nods once to the other fighter, soon the pack is moving and Curse does what she can, keep her eyes peeled for danger, the sick howls soon sending chills to her very core.

Panting heavily now, her heart racing, she remembers, half remembered really from so long ago, stories of a sickness. She bares her fangs as she see's a small silver form race suddenly from the tree's aiming straight for the pups. With a snarl she lets out a quick bark of warning, before putting on a sprint of speed, slamming chest first into the silverly wolf. Heeding the warning from Resin about not biting she watching the wolf roll about in the snow attacking itself. She shakes her head then turns snapping at the wolves who had stopped to watch.

"MOVE NOW!" She snarls ferociously urging them back into motion. She lets them go, scanning the tree line, She glances to the downed wolf who is howling madly, She snorts and starts running again, feeling an itching agony crawl through her. She had not come this far, not become accepted again to only face death, she would not die, and none under her careful gaze would either. She see's a pup stumble and go down in a flurry of snow, but before she can reach it and yank it back to its feet, a black form is upon it, lifting it from the snow and dropping it upon its back and running away again. She sends a quick bark to the brute who only flicks his tail in response, his attention fully on the pups he seems to have taken to protecting.

Mirage
{{Brute||Omega||10|| Running|}}

He's running, he's never hated running as much as he does now after all these days. His lungs burn, he can hear snarls and howls all around them. He keeps scanning, over and over counting pups in his head, he see's the silver form coming from the tree's and only barley see's curse knock it over, before he see's the puff of snow. His count tells him already a pup is down, he snarls fear bursting through his chest as he lunges forward clearing a packmate with a single leap he lands besides the pup, it is alone, in a small hole filled with snow, it's scrabbling to get out but can not. He is still in motion, as he darts his head down, gripping the ruff of the smaller wolf, he lifts his head quickly still running, pulling the pup behind him, he tosses it upon his back, stretching for all he is worth he runs, he can hear Curse howl behind him, but he doesn't stop, he doesn't look back, he just runs, keeping an eye on those around him, bolstering any flagging spirits, never slowly his pace.

Kuolema
{{Brute||Loner/fighter||14||traveling south

Kuolema had been keeping an eye on the pack for the time while the rested, though he wasn't going to show himself, If they've just dealt with his father, it was highly unlikely he'd be welcomed with open arms. He has padded off to the west a bit and is coming up around the pack, when something flies from the snow slamming into him, snarling and howling sickly trying to get a hold of him. Perhaps it is his youth and health that saves him, or perhaps his speed and knowledge of how to avoid his own father's mad fits. He flings himself away easily bouncing across the snow on his toes, Tail and ears up as this mad creature snarls and rages at the ground, biting a rock then suddenly flinging itself madly at a tree that was closer then Kuolema. He blinks backing away slowly keeping an eye on the animal, barring his fangs, he freezes as howl after howl fills the air, sick no message just sick and deranged. He recognizes it, it is his father at his worst he knows, he knows.

He tosses his head back hoping the pack will hear him, and know what he calls for, he is not threatening just letting them know. RUN DANGER RUN! he howls three times over before turning east he makes a run for the pack. He dodges through the trees, dodges through the madness of the wolves that have come to infect. He barley manages to clear a large brute whose maw is open and ravenous, he flings himself into the clearing and turns south racing after the pack, the only thought with in his head was safety in numbers. He will deal with acceptance late, he can see a white fae running near the rear of the pack, he is certain he will be intercepted as a danger, but then he see's a dark form burst from the tree's heading straight for the fae. He puts on a burst of speed just before the creature reaches her and slams into it head first tossing it away, he whirls and races past the fea. "Run!" He backs at her before bursting forward eying out the way the pack runs, working out things in his head. "don't bite them, don't let them bite you," He calls quickly having missed Resin's call earlier. "run, don't stop," He urges again, not caring if they listen or not. He will not see the madness of his father awake here never.

Ahote
Male | 36 | Fighter
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

Ahote shook his head when Resin took off to look for Pipa, thinking that he should have gone after her himself, since he was already half way there when he saw her break off. In her short absence, he takes the time to begin moving wolves into groups, and starting to get things organized to that they will move together as one. "Make sure you all stay together. Families, mates, brothers and sisters, all look out for one another and make sure no one is left behind. Everyone else, keep a sharp look out for anything strange and stay close to your friends. We all need each other," he said, finishing up just as Resin returned. He then relayed her order, barking for those still lingering around the kills to get moving and once again placing himself at the back of the pack, urging everyone onward.

Harrying the group like a stag herding his does, Ahote ran back and forth across the back end of the pack, encouraging stragglers to keep moving even though they were reluctant. For not having had much sleep, he was actually getting used to the constant movement and his muscles responded with little complaint, unlike the sleepy laggards who refused to run on their full bellies. Suddenly and horribly, all of the resistance in front of him disappears as the diseased wolves begin to appear out of the woods, and the pack broke out into a run. Straggling out like crazed specters, they gnawed at themselves, snapping and frothing in their rage. Resin sent out a warning, and it was almost immediately met with another, farther away howl. This one too called out the danger, and Ahote immediately wondered in another pack were under attack as well.

Hear thudding in his chest, Ahote managed to move the last of them past the fair colored wolf, still biting and clawing at itself. Several times as they run past, he looked back over his shoulder, making sure that the thing hadn't decided to give chase, luckily though, it doesn't even seem to see them. However, others are not so lucky. Xani takes care of a brute who appears suddenly, kicking snow into its face and making ti snap and claw at the air like it is under attack. Up ahead, Curse and Mirage are taking care of the pups and others who have moved closer to the center of the pack.

Crazed howls fill the air, gurgling with wetness and a wordless savagery that chills Ahote to the bone. All at once, a foreign brute breaks from the trees, heading straight for the pack, and from the other side black brute. Baring his teeth, Ahote pulls himself up to his full height and runs to intercept, but the grey wolf turns and knocks back the black one, instead of going for the stragglers. As he yells out, warning once again of the danger, Ahote recognizes his voice as the one who had echoed Resin's calls earlier, and he urges him onward, pushing him into the back of the pack. Whatever these things are, the vileness that afflicts them robs them of their minds as well as their senses, and if this one calls out in warning, than he hasn't been taken yet.

A fierce growl erupts behind them, and Ahote spins, seeing the black brute back on his feet and charging them yet again. Baring his own teeth, the fighter broke off and moved to intercept. Skipping around the creature's gnashing teeth, he slams into its flank, once again knocking it to the ground. However, this time, he is not going to let it get back up. Already somewhat behind it, Ahote leaps like a fox hunting through the snow, and brings down the full weight of his Alpha's girth on the raving creatures hock. The fragile bone snaps beneath him, and he spins away, racing to catch up with the rest of the pack.

Just ahead, a young fea named Kera had stopped when she heard Ahote's growl, and now stood watching wide eyed while he fought the raving black beast. "What are you doing?! Run!" Ahote called out to her, but he was too late. A tiny grey wolf broke from the trees, only a few years older than River, and made its way directly for her. Before he could reach them, the little thing was on Kera like a crazed ball of fur, and she screamed, and lept back. Less than a second later, Ahote was on top of them both, he threw Keira back away, and leapt on the snarling pup. Its eyes were rolled up into the back of its head, so much so that he couldn't even tell what color its eyes were, and it snapped blindly at everything and nothing. Once again using his weight, he brought his paws down on its neck, pressing down until he felt something give, and it moved no more.

Not wanting to contemplate what he had just done, Ahote quickly turned away from the tiny body and loks to Kera, who was still staring, wide eyed at him. "Are you hurt? It didn't bite you, did it?" he demands, his voice harder than he had intended.

Kera shrunk back from the former Alpha, visibly flinching from his tone. "N-no... I'm fine..." she said, holding up one of her front paws from the ground. Her eyes wide as though she feared the fighter would turn on her next, crushing her beneath his massive paws the same way he did the pup.

Not taking the time to do anything more than hear her respond, Ahote barks back, "Good, now keep moving, we can't be left behind," he said, and nudged her forward. The little wolf took off like a shot, and Ahote quickly followed, making sure that no one else was left behind while he ran. Luckily, he finds no other rubber-neckers, and is soon able to push Kera up into the rest of the pack.

Once there himself, Ahote seeks out the newcomer, coming up behind him. "You, whoever you are, you can fight and seem to know what we are up against... Get to the right side of the pack and help Xani fight them back! I'll keep up the rear here," he orderd in a breathless voice between his ragged pants, pointing out his fellow fighter with a toss of his head. He then gathers a deep breath can calls out to Xani and Resin, telling the feas that he is sending them reinforcements to help.

((Ooo, did I get carried away much? Anyway, as you might have guessed, Kera is a disposable character, and I think you all know why...))

Attican
73 - Brute - Keeper

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Attican headed back with Resin, noting that the Eldest wolf did not follow them. He did not question Pipaluk's motives, if there was ever anyone to truly be in charge and aware of what they were doing (especially in the case of self-preservation as attributed to her age), it was her.

He couldn't help but sigh inwardly at the thought of moving again. It appeared that a constant plague of dangers hovered over the Pack, keeping them in constant motion and perpetually on their toes. Be it as it may though, he was thankful for even the three hours of rest that he had acquired after a much-needed meal too.

The Pack took hardly a breath of time after Resin announced their leave before starting movement. He himself was off to the left side of the leading Alpha, essentially covering the front left flank. Her words as they ran barked across the wind, cutting through the air as sharply as they were commanded. Eerie howls floated as it seemed all around them, causing wolves ears around the Keeper to pin back to their heads. Plans were quickly changed and suddenly Attican found himself the newly-proclaimed leader of the mass, the rest of the high ranks flanking off to the right to work as a living barrier. What was going on??

It did not take long for the brute's question to be at least partially answered. Seemingly conjured from nothing a matted wolf came running forth from some trees, froth visibly dripping from a bared, gaping maw. His nostrils flared, lungs thirsting for oxygen to pump to his needy, working muscles. It was obvious that whatever drove the wolf forwards was not of its own mind. Its teeth bared and even as it attempted chase to would tend to bite at itself, causing wounds to its own body. No more than a few moments later and even more appeared, fighting and crashing their way towards the tight-knit group. Plans changed again on a dime and it took much effort on the high ranks part to once again throw off the groups initial heading point, diverting everyone to a hard left. Still Attican found himself now in the lead, claws raking heavily into the snow for traction to stay ahead.

It was so difficult to not go and turn around to help Ahote, Xani, and everyone else in the first line of fire. Especially as obvious sounds of conflict ensued it took all the ex-Fighter had to not whip around and try to do what he could in assistance. But the pack needed someone to take route and it had come down to him to do it. His eyes squinted to the foreground ahead of him, trying to percept any possibilities for another danger to pop out. There was a thin line of clearing towards the southeast, a natural corridor of ice with no trees for things to hide within. He would shoot for that. Hopefully Pipaluk was heading in that direction already.

Blood pumped through the old brute's veins, all of his efforts directing towards lunging his way across the frozen earth in attempt to lead his 'family' to safety.

Pilot
32- Fae - Straggler

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

While ScarPaw ran their way to hopeful safety, about 85 miles away sat Pilot, completely unaware from the packs troubles or even of their existence. After an unsuccessful day of hunting yesterday it appeared that luck had come her way in the form of a large group of musk oxen that had descended from the North not that long ago. As even more luck would have it, the herd appeared exhausted from their already done travels, bidding well for the hungry female. It did not take long for Pilot to scope out a particularly struggling beast, obviously the worse for the ware from the journey.

The lightweight fae crouched herself to a prime spot for ambush, leaping out from behind a bank at what she felt was the exact right time to try to single out her target. Just as she had hoped she had been able to spook away the able-bodies, while the one was momentarily left behind. Pilot ran her way to stand between them, allowing no way for it to return to the safety of the group. After that it was a running game, wearing the tired beast down until it could no longer go forward. It did not take long for the deed to be done.

Finally, after much time of finding half meals, the female had earned herself a dinner. Without hesitation she tore into the belly, keen on getting to the most valuable pieces first. Being that it was just herself out here it wouldn't take long for scavengers to come along and try their chances to pick off a meal too. Ravens and foxes were one thing, after all, Pilot could never finish off a whole oxen by herself, but it had happened more than once that the wolfess had been chased off her own kill by larger beasts like the ice bear or even groups of her own kind. Her thin maw delved into the meat, chewing away hungrily. For now, she was happy.

((Sorry for the hold up. I finally managed to sleep, but I ended up sleeping too much. Kimchi soup is fantastic. Spicy and hearty. I put steak in mine instead of tofu.))

Pipaluk- Female- 97 Summers

Huffing and puffing, the old wolf moved as fast as she could. Her old eyes were peeled, looking for both the unforeseen danger and anything that could help the pack. She had heard the strange howls and calls coming from behind her. She had also heard both the alpha and another wolf warning against being bitten or biting. An odd request, but the more she thought about it, the more it made sense. Maybe the madness in the minds of the wolves was interfering with the ancestors senses. Perhaps their confusion was bleeding into the spiritual world.

The sound of rushing water met her ears. Adjusting her course, she ran towards it. Following the sound had been a good choice. Before Pipaluk ran a fast moving river. Chunks of ice floated atop of it. Padding down it's length, she finally found what she had been looking for. There was a fallen log across the water. The pack would be able to cross it, then the log could either be pushed in or guarded if it was too heavy.

It took her a few tries to warm up her voice, but eventually Pipaluk howled, calling the wolves towards her. "Safety! Quick! This way!" Slowly, one foot in front of the other, the old female made her way across the log. It was fairly sturdy and would easily hold the weight of the pack as they crossed. The only trouble might be pushing it in afterwards, so the gnarled old wolf set to work, using her claws to dig out the land on one side of the log. It would be easier to move quickly when the time came, but it would also make it a little less sturdy.

Resin- Alpha Female- 40 Summers

Adrenaline rushed mightily through the dark female's veins. Every bit of her body was working at it's highest potential. Danger was running rampant around her pack. More than once she went out of her way to head off a mad beast as it ran towards one of her packmates. Somehow a small bloodied female made it through the ranks and was running after the pups. Stopping in her tracks, Resin braced herself. The rabid female, unable to pay attention in the slightest, ran straight into the alpha's side and went flipping over her, flying through the air. When she landed, the female spun about on her back, unable to right herself in her confusion.

The group had mostly passed the snow covered wolf, so Resin continued on. Turning, she had just begun to run again when a massive white male slammed into her, knocking her to the ground. Resin went tumbling into the snow, her breath rushing from her lungs. Instantly the male was on top of her. The grey and black female was on her back, paws pressed into the chest of the male, keeping his snapping maw away from her throat. There was a moment of shock. For just a moment, the male looked like Ash and Resin's heart threatened to break. This was a madness that even he could never come back from.

Bracing herself, she placed her hind paws beneath the males stomach and, with the force of all four feet, pushed and flung him off of her. Upon his landing, one leg landed wrong and Resin could hear the snap. The male's body crumpled and he screamed in pain and confusion.

Resin had not been bitten, but it had been close. Taking just a second to catch her breath, she tore off again, having to play catch up. A howl in the distance caught her attention. Once the wind brought the call closer, Resin flashed a triumphant grin. "Follow the howls! Follow Pipaluk!" With a new rush of energy, she continued on, heading off wolves here and there as they made their way towards the old wolf. Hopefully her promised safety was as good as it needed to be.

Attican
73 - Brute - Keeper

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The brute ran as hard as his body would allow, his maw now slack and huffing heavily for oxygen. His adrenaline stash was depleting rapidly as all his efforts went towards ground coverage and the mix of fear and worry he felt for his packmates behind him. He could not allow himself to look backwards and see what ensued behind. Already too many sounds of contact and snarls carried through the air to create a terrifying mental picture in his head. He knew he would not be beneficial if he went to help now, if he stopped there would be no way for his body to start up again. The only thing he could do now was lead and run.

Attican's legs lunged through the icy ground, neck straining to will his large mass forwards. His paws thundered repetitively, claws tearing into the earth. At one point he could feel one make accidental contact with a hidden rock below, jamming the claw into a locked wedge. He forced himself forwards to keep from tripping, instead breaking his foot free forcibly and leaving the claw behind altogether. The brute didn't feel it for now, all that mattered was to get to safety.

More growls, the sounds of a snapping bone, and the triumphant bark of a pack member. More mental pictures filled his head, giving him the energy to keep going.

The croaking voice of Pipaluk seemed like a beacon from the ancestors themselves. It appeared that Resin and the Keeper thought alike - even as the Alpha was telling the pack to follow in its direction, Attican was already averting his course towards the Eldest's calls. He just had to keep going... just keep moving. Don't stop, just force yourself to keep on going to your destination. You can't stop, there is no ability to stop, you can only move forwards...

Trees whisked by, a forest of green, brown, and white blur going across from either side. Pipaluk's voice reverberated closer, letting the group know of their closing-in proximity. The sounds of a river flowed close as well, bringing questions to the brute as to how they may have to cross it. It appeared that some of the ranks were now closer to him as well, the mass of the group eventually enveloping around him so that they were just a large, frontal barrier. Over a small hill and through a few more trees and the line of vision finally opened up, giving view to the pursued group of their potential safety. There, across a log, worked the Eldest, howling and digging her position on the other side of the river. It was the most welcome sight to the worn out brute. He yipped to the wolf who had come along aside him, tongue still lolling out in his panted breath.

"G- go!" He encouraged, not letting a moment of hesitation to go by. He did not want to be the first to cross, but it appeared that once again he was put in no other position. "Fine, but follow me!!" He jumped his way forwards, running to be the first one across the log and to set an example for the Pack. He lept onto the log, feet spread wide to give out balance. It bobbled a bit, but the fallen trunk was decently wide, able to withstand some movement. Seven, eight, nine, lunges across the 'bridge' and he was already mostly across. A final leap brought him to the other side, instantly bringing him to turn around to see everyone elses' advancements. His legs shook, the strain of the run starting to set in.

(Alright, well I think I'll kill him off then. He was adorable but his time has come...
Maybe, if crazed wolves attack again, I'll have him come back... hehehe...)

Xani
- Female - 21 - Fighter -

Xani continued on in her current position, occasionally fending off attacks from the crazed wolves. Due to her size, she was able to just tackle most of them, leaving them flopping in the snow until they started snapping at their own bodies, or until they went berserk on one of their own packmates. Every victory over a crazed wolf allowed her to push on further, even through the burning in her muscles. She trusted Attican and Resin to protect the pack from the front, as well as lead them, while she and Ahote protected them from the rear.

After a moment more, the faint howls of Pipaluk reached her ears. Apparently the old wolf had found some form of safety. Xani had no idea what that might be, or how safe it really was, but she would bet it was at least better than their present situation. The pack soon broke through the trees, and the sight before her made her take pause.

The elder fae was across a freezing river, doing something to a log that she had obviously used to cross it. Attican had just finished hurling himself across the log, and the other pack members were slowly starting to cross it. She growling menacingly, snapping at the member nearest her. "Get moving! If you don't all cross, we'll die! GO!" With that, she turned back to guarding the pack. A few of the wolves that seemed slightly more coherent had followed them.

Junco
- Male - 15 - Omega -

The last few days had flown by in a flurry of memories for the young omega. Hunting, fighting, and death had occurred much more rapidly in the past week than they had in his entire life. The ScarPaw pack seemed to be receiving its fair share of suffering as of late. He had spent the entire time with Pipaluk, Mirage and the pups, trying to keep them calm. He was nowhere near the storyteller that Mirage was, but he was a friendly face for the scared pups. Now, he was forced to run for his life from a group of diseased wolves who could barely stop attacking themselves. The pack had just reached what he thought would be safe, but he would never reach the other side of the river.

Just as he broke through the trees, he turned to see a large fae flying towards him. He barely registered her approach before he acted. She was heading for the pups as they milled, afraid to cross the river. Junco leapt, knocking the fae to the side. He planned on following the actions of the others, and simply putting her out of commission with his paws alone. However, that plan was not to work. He felt a set of fangs sink into his shoulder, and a yelp of pain escaped him.

He froze, knowing that he was doomed. Refusing to let harm come to the pups, he in turn sunk his teeth into her neck, quickly disposing of her. It was a shame that his first real kill would be his last. He shook off her weight as he kicked her body aside. He called out to Resin, simply saying, "I'm done." With that, he rushed back the way they came to try and hold off the other wolves.

((Hey there, happy thanksgiving to all of you too! I hope you all had a lovely feast yesterday! I considered posting last night, but with a full belly and four glasses of wine, I decided passing out on the couch with my dog was probably the better choice.))

Ahote
Male | 36 | Fighter
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

Ahote continued to move the pack forward, barking orders and encouraging flagging spirits, even physically pushing the stragglers forward when needed. Running back and forth and warding off danger, the whole situation was exhausting, and his tongue lolled as he panted, fighting for every breath. There was no way he could keep up this amount of activity for much longer, his big frame simply wasn't meant for this kind of continuous darting back and forth. Thus, when he hears Pipa's call, a sense of relief washes over him, and that hope enables him to redouble his efforts and move them towards the sound.

Soon, the sound of rushing water reached Ahote's ears, and at first he wondered if somehow their convoluted southern course had brought them back to the ocean. The smell of fresh water tells him otherwise though, and he lunges onward, skirting yet another mad wolf spinning in the snow. By the time he reaches sight of the river, most of the others have already crossed or are in the process of doing so. He did not see the brute that attacked Resin, nor the trials Xani and Attican faced in getting the others to cross. Rolling in like a strom with his breath puffing over him in a cloud, he doesn't stop when he reaches the wolves milling about this side of the log, he keeps running until he reaches the river. Splashing into it, he quickly snaps up mouthfuls of water, not having seen so much moving fresh water since he was a very small pup. Feeling the icy liquid cool his burning innards, he is finally able to catch his breath and he quickly returns to Xani's side, eyeing the now oddly calm trees behind them with suspicion.

Ahote does a quick head count then, swiveling his head over his sholder to look behind him, and he soon notices that there is at least one missing. A sinking feeling hits him, and he looks to Xani, "Junco... Are there others?" he asked, his words breathless and wispy against the roaring of the river.

Driven forward by Ahote's insistence, Kera too comes too reaches the river and comes to a stop behind the rest of the pack. Still limping on her front, right leg, she comes to a halt and stares at the water with eyes as wide as saucers. Rushing and frothing and churning in front of her, she can feel fear rising up in her, quickly amplifying to the point of terror. Of course, before they left their old home, she had seen the ocean many times, and never felt such fear. There is simply no way she is going to willingly go anywhere near that log, nor the water on which it rides. Finally, she has to look away, lest the fear take her and force her to run. Staring down at her paws, she could see tiny flecks of red in her tracks, and realized that whatever plagues her foot is worse than she thought.

In the middle of everything, as the other wolves press past, Kira drops to the ground and begins licking her front paw. Isolated in her own mind, she is surprised at just how sweet her own blood tastes, and she laps it up with abandon. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough, and she soon finds herself nibbling at the skin up her leg, just to get more. The pain of it makes her growl, and she mutters to herself, trying to build up the courage to actually take a decent bite, but is startled out of it when Ahote barks at her. "Kira! What are you doing? Get moving!" he ordered, seeing her being left behind.

The little wolf quailed, leaping to her feet and spinning in a circle as though assailed by more than just the fighters voice. Ahote is taken aback by this, he had known her to always be a shy fea, but never paranoid, and he watches as she paces up and down the edge of the river. Though the strangeness of it worries him, his only concern is to make sure that everyone get to safety, and he is eventually able to push her out onto the log, where she flees across like she was set on by specters.

Turning back to his duties of keeping the pack moving across, Ahote finally made his way back to Xani. "Alright, go on across. There are more on that side now than this, and they need keeping as well. I'll make sure these few get over and then follow," he said, offering once again to guard the rear.

Re: இ۵Ŗace Ågainst ₦atureஇ۵(Semi-Lit Wolf RP) OPEN

((Wine and puppies are two of the best things ever. I had a few glasses of Sweet Red myself, then curled up with my fiance, a movie and two happy kitties. Perfect end to Thanksgiving. (: ))

Resin- Alpha Female- 40 Summers

Her escapade with the white male had left her behind the rest of the group, but not by much. As they arrived at the log, there was a bit of a jam as only one wolf was able to cross at a time. She advised them to hurry, then turned her back on them to watch for the wolves that she knew would be coming. Their confused, garbled howling echoed through the trees. She could hear them fighting with one another off in the distance.

Resin, Ahote and Xani were spread out a bit, and when she drew close enough, she heard the big male mention Junco. Furrowing her brow slightly, she felt ashamed that she'd forgotten so quickly. "Junco won't be coming. He was bitten." She flicked an ear before turning her gaze back towards the treeline. "He went to hold off as many as he could manage." She knew that there may be casualties on such a journey, but she hadn't expected so many. Self doubt rose it's ugly head once more. She'd failed Junco. She'd failed Ash. She'd even failed Grimshaw. No matter how horrid a wolf he had been, he was under her protection.

Now wasn't the time for such thoughts. Soon, each and every wolf had crossed save the three of them. "After you two. Get ready to push that log into the water the moment I'm across. Then be ready to run. We need to get as much distance between us and them as possible." There was a chance that they could find another way to cross. Some shallow spot, should they overcome their fear, or another log or stone crossing. Already the pack was exhausted. If they had to continue running, more lives would be lost.

"Go." The big black and grey wolf prompted. She would stand guard as Ahote and Xani crossed. To her left, she saw a wolf rush out into the open at a full run. It's eyes widened at the sight of water and it's steps faltered, tossing it right off of it's feet into the quick, rushing river. The water swept the screaming wolf downstream. Though seeing it was sorrowful, at least it hadn't been one of her pack.

Many more wolves broke from the treeline, all of them spitting and growling at the water before them. Several fights broke out between them in their confusion. She watched as two males snapped and ripped a third female to shreds. Resin was unable to move momentarily. The sight was a horrid one. Such madness... such useless death. Gradually their attention began to turn towards her and they began running towards her, full sprint. There were at least ten, but she wasn't staying to count.

Once Xani and Ahote crossed, she leaped onto the log and made her way to the rest of the group. With one last leap, she landed and threw her full weight against the log. Already the frothing, blood covered mass of wolves was nearing the log, some of them having just enough wits left to know that they could cross it. "Push!" She growled, again forcing her body against the log. The tree had been an old, dense conifer. The ice and snow had plastered it to the ground. The work that Pipaluk had done to the earth helped quite a bit, but it would still take a lot of force to swing the log into the water.

{{After doing most of the cooking for Thanksgiving, I definitely ended up with a glass or two of red in my hand. Everything turned out beautifully though, It was really a nice time. Glad to hear you guys had a nice one too.}}

Attican
73 - Brute - Keeper

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

After hauling his way over the log, Attican had shifted himself out of the way of oncoming packmates. His flanks heaved for gasps of breath, his body searching for more oxygen than his mouth and nose could keep up with. Around his own maw dripping heavy amounts of foam, although not the kind that the infected had. He flopped unceremoniously in the snow, a bleary eye half watching as wolves ran across. If it had not been for Pipaluk and her announcement of her find, the brute was not sure if he would have made it much further without falling behind. His older body was spent.

It took much longer than he could have ever imagined to get everyone across. Many were hesitant upon stepping across the log, the only drive in them to do it at all being the oncoming infected wolves and the fact that the Ranks were barking at them like mad trying to get them to go forward. One by one, they chalked up their fear and went over, the numbers on the safe side eventually increasing. The time it took worried the burnt out Elder. He knew that Resin and others would never cross until everyone else had, expanding their chances to get in contact with the deranged wolves and whatever had plagued them to become as this. In the very near distance one could hear them closing in, the sicking growls and sounds of interpersonal fighting coming closer.

Finally it appeared that some of the Ranks were preparing to go. Just in time too, as a seemingly brand-new batch of infected came running forth from the trees. What had happened to these wolves? One got swept down river in its haste to run after the Pack, others turning on each other and buying the few left over a little more time. Ahote and Xani made their way across, and after that, Resin. Attican did not see Junco in the midst of it all, a wonderful wolf left behind.

Immediately upon crossing, the Alpha and a few others brandished their weight into pushing the log. For a moment the Keeper was confused on their actions, but quickly he realized exactly what they were doing. The wolves that chased them, although sickly and even turning upon their own, appeared conscious enough to make some decisions. After all, they had had the mind enough to chase after the Pack, of course some may figure out to follow across the 'bridge.' Attican tried wobbling to his feet to help, his legs absolutely shaking in protest. His breath was still considerably heavy and his heart felt as if it were ready to leap out of his chest altogether. He took a few more steps before suddenly falling into a coughing fit, the phlegm and the froth irritating his throat. He hunched over in a near ball, coughing his throat clear again.

It became obvious that even if the Keeper got to the log, his efforts to push it would be useless. Instead the mass of space he would take up should be filled with someone who could actually work. He grunted to a male near his right, still hard-pressed in his breathing to form too many words. He knew his name to be Vali, a hunter, and with a considerable amount of muscle to him. Attican motioned with his head to the efforts of the few, noting the space the brute could occupy. "Help them." He rasped, not even trying to move. Instead he laid down where he was, neck extended in the snow. His eyes closed, energy expended.
