            KAYDEN PIERCE
enhanced memory ○ sixteen ○ female
            ⋯⋯⋯ ⋯⋯⋯ ⋯⋯⋯

I sit in silence as just about the entire town gathers around me, talking like there is no tomorrow. But maybe that's true. I have too many people in my head right now, screaming and fighting with one another, and it's driving me nuts. It's kind of hard, but I eventually get them all to shut up and go away. Now to just focus on the actual people around me.

I'm silent, watching and listening to the kids around me as they talk. So, apparently the secret about our little abilities is out, no thanks to Drew. However, I do snort a slight laugh when that one 'Cloud' guy from before calls the little operation 'Hear No Evil.' Interesting. And then Shayne and Cloud start fighting and I swear I almost pull out my hair.

"Okay, stop fighting, girls," I say. "A, yes, Drew does have telekinesis. I've seen it before; we went to junior high together in Maine. B, yes, there are people in this group that do have abilities. I'm one of them. My sisters both have abilities. C, yes, I am positive Drew has Nic. I don't really see why, her power isn't much under her control, but he might not know that. D, Drew is not the only one in Coates that has a so-called 'power;' He's got that one guy that's named after a planet as his henchman, and he's sadistic, which is a power in itself, add that to the fact that he could have one. Trust me, this guy will only put kids with powers --- and only minor ones at that --- in power. And E, we cannot take down Drew. Not yet. We need more information, which we will only be able to get the hard way."

I pause, realizing I've just spilled my thoughts all over the ground for these kids to see. Marine Kayden gives me a good slap. It takes me a moment to realize, besides Ash, who exactly I'm talking to: an emo kid with a skateboard, a guy from a school for troubled kids who has just admitted that he has anger issues, and a eleven-year-old girl with a big ego. I know right now that any plan I come up with is bound to end in their deaths, possibly mine too. No matter how much training I might have, there is no possible chance I can make these kids into soldiers. I shake my head. "What am I saying," I say, mostly to myself. "There is no way that we can do this. Not one. You guys are not me, and we won't win this fight."

EVERYONE WAS GETTING MORE AND MORE STUPID AS THE CONVERSATION DRUG ON. Well, that was what Hannah-Nora believed. Stupid and useless to her. Why not just go and blow Drew's brains out, splatter blood across the plaza? It would deal with him quick and easy. Plus, the other kids would see that they-- the Operation of Hear No Evil -- were bringing justice to the town. But, of course, the older kids-- with their "intelligence" and their "age" obviously had to use their thinkers and make this whole convention a monologue. Hannah-Nora stood there, the shortest of them all, arms crossed over her chest as she analyzed the group.

She glanced over at Cloud for the first time, and noted that he was closer to her. Like perhaps he somewhat cared whether or not she lived or died. Perhaps. It wasn't like any of the other kids in her neighborhood did. They were all mean, making fun of her name, her accent, her parents religious beliefs and their races, and the fact that Hannah-Nora had shaved her head and dressed like a boy. That's what they called her: a tomboy, but in a snide way, as if it were rather a curse than a comment.

Well, everybody said those things: all except Cloud. Even now, she was still shaken up by his reaction to her. His anger and rejection. Of how he got angry back there on her. And it was all because she had began crying like some little child, feeling alone and abandoned to a world desiring to corrupt the innocence of childhood. Well, she wasn't a child anymore! Kevin could stop treating her like one, too! And speaking of people treating her unfairly, well! No more! No more would she allow people to treat her like a child, easily being ignored of her observations! It was a free country, after all! And it wasn't like nobody else cried anymore! She was alone, after all.

She hesitated before raising her voice. "I'm Hannah-Nora and I'm the best thing that has ever happened to this town." She said in that thick Indian-Jamaican accent. She jutted out her chin, proud to announce that she was going to be their savior, their Super Man. "Oh, and by the way: Hannah-Nora is one name, with a hyphen. If I ever find out you spell it wrong, I'll hunt you down and gut you like a fish." She smiled sweetly.

Hannah-Nora turned to Kayden, giving her the Dirty Eyeball. "Oh? So the blonde chick with the big breasts calls the shots while we all stand here like half-naked chickens because you're supposedly the best super-hero in this world and Drew is unstoppable?" She huffed, her cheeks darkening with a furious flush. "Well, guess what? I'm Kim Possible right now. And I propose we just shoot Cloud..." She paused, then flashed Kevin a pretty smile, realizing both her still fuming anger. And if it were not for her sharp teeth grinding together, she might have gotten on his sweet side. Perhaps slid past that. But that was very unlikely. "Uh, heh... I meant Drew. Drew, not Cloud. I meant Drew! Why not shoot Drew and get it over with? Nobody would know it was us!"

Mars continued to walk at a steady pace, side by side with the other redhead as the conversation went on. He looked over at her, considering as she spewed her story. Aspen was too intense for his complete liking. But at least she wasn't stuck up like that witch Scarlet, or all dramatic like Bella Swan. Perhaps she was reliable. And so far, she wasn't too bad. She never questioned him. What he did see in her was her potential.
His eyes scanned the distance, letting his thoughts tumble around. Aspen was Scarlet's job, so he wouldn't do it. He'd let her go. Tell Drew Scarlet dumped her job on him, while he did his own. That was sure to get some attention. Perhaps, even enough to make Drew question Scarlet's liability. He glanced at Aspen and this time spoke. "I don't have a side, Aspen." He hesitated. "I'm on my own. I don't rely on anybody and I will not stop what I am doing for anybody." He had drew his line, made his point. Made it clear that no matter what happened, he was going through with his plan. With or without anybody. There wasn't any going back. He stopped to look at her in the dulled sunlight. He lowered his voice. "But if you're with me, stay with me." That was all before he nodded his head, curtly and began to walk off.

Shayne turned his attention to the girl on the ground, whose name was apparently Kayden. She rambled off a long list of things, some of which really surprised Shayne. So there were a lot of others with powers out there? And some were sitting right here? When she finished speaking, Shayne spoke again. "If you guys have powers, it would be nice to know what they are. We can use them to our advantage." She didn't seem too keen on the idea of just charging back in, and neither was Shayne. It seemed like one of a limited amount of options, though.

He cast a glance down at the younger girl as she started speaking, but mentally rolled his eyes. She was going to be annoying. Little children that thought they were hot stuff had always peeved Shayne off. As Ash spoke, he turned back towards her, ignoring the end of the young girl's words. A single nod said that he would be willing to help out how he could. "Alright, you're going to have to explain your master plan a bit more to me. I'm not going in without enough knowledge."

and, of course, he followed her anyway. that was the one nice thing about drew- his reliability to always be there. like a puppy, maybe. scarlet pushed her hand through her copper hair, let it fall in loose waves down her back. she considered ignoring drew. ignoring him was always fun, but that was too close to being petty for scarlet's liking.

she fixed her eyes on drew without slowing down her walk, forcing him to take longer strides to keep up. "aspen annoyed me, so i passed her onto mars. problem?" she tilted her head to the side, smiling thinly. "and no, honey, mars doesn't hate me because i'm a redhead, he hates me because i make him feel inferior. i make everyone feel inferior, it must be my inner beauty." self-deprecating and teasing done, she seemed to lose all interest in the boy, searching in her bag for her contacts case. if she'd forgotten them at the school she was going to scream.

she looked back up at drew. "dispose of him? really?" she threw her head back and laughed, loud enough to attract the attention of a few others. she put on a falsely sweet voice, the type normally used to talk to a baby. "aw, don't you sound like a little dictator?" she dropped the smile and the voice. "don't send me on jobs again. i'm not your servant." she took a sharp right into the neighbourhood she used to live in, and looked over her shoulder. "i'm checking out my parents' house. don't wait for me, i might be a while." did she want him to argue with her, try to make her stay? maybe. then she realized she really didn't need him for anything more than protection, and that thought disappeared. she needed to find her contacts, otherwise her glasses were going to be needed- and she despised her glasses.

Since he was being compliant, she took her ferocity down a notch. Aspen was fine with his situation; she knew the terms of their relationship. He wouldn't look out for her, but he wouldn't hurt her either. Who knows, he might eventually crack after he took Drew down. She might get her recognition then.
"Fine by me. You taking me to Drew?" She asked curiously. Personally, she wanted to knew what Drew wanted with her. Before Mars could react to her question, she heard Drew's voice calling out to him. He was just down the hallway, his silhouette was traced by the yellow office lighting behind him. He was in the mayor's office; of course. The new king in town had to have the perfect nest to do his busy work. Without waiting for Mars, she picked up her own pace and made a beeline for Drew. The petite redhead had a confident little strut; she was no one's prisoner, she wasn't captured. She was going to him."I heard you were looking for me. I don't appreciate being hunted down, Drew. Oh, in case we haven't met, I'm Aspen McAnne. No sense telling me who you are, as I obviously already know. What you can tell me is why you were looking for me?"She growled, her green eyes looking him up and down. After being around Mars, he wasn't all that impressive to her.

Tramp?
Aspen snorted at the insulting nickname, her little hand balling up into a fist. She felt Mars behind her and consoled herself. Drew was his mess to clean up, she had Scarlet to go track down. She was just about to turn and leave when Drew insinuated that she was simply an obstacle to him. She was some little girl, walking, talking pinhead who was only in Mars' way. Too late.

As soon as the words left his mouth, she lost it. She didn't care if Mars saw her acting like a raving mad woman, so be it. No one would talk disrespectfully to her ever. She leaped at Drew, her hands going for his uniform shirt collar. She used her strength to push him up against the wall behind him and pressed his body up. Every vein seemed to bulge from her skin, her teeth clenched and bared, her entire body tense. Her eyes were insane with anger.

"My turn, Princess. First off, don't you ever even think about calling me weak or useless ever again. Secondly, I'm here on my own accord. Your little Scarlet couldn't drag me here even if there were ten of her. In case you haven't noticed, I've gained a little strength for my size, so don't you think for a minute that you can order me around like you own the place. And Lastly, you will not be disposing or picking me up, I'm not an object you can pick and choose. I'm only here because I want to know what the hell you want with me."

She snarled, letting him loose of her grip. Her entire body was trembling, her nose bloodied from her increased heart rate; pounding blood through her veins. She must have gotten a nose bleed half way through her rage. She didn't care, she couldn't even feel it. She recomposed herself, waiting for Drew's explanation. Hopeful now, he would know that he wasn't dealing with some weak, pathetic child. He was dealing with her.

She couldn't explain it. She was strong enough to crush a car, but she felt him push her back after she let him go. She was just about to turn around and slug him right back in the face, only to find he was on the other side of the room where she had left him. He was holding out his hand in an eerie way, as if he had stretched out to push her. Before she could comprehend what he was doing, another hit. This one was harder, and it threw her against the opposite wall. Crunch! Her head left an indent into the plaster wall. She hung there in midair. The was an excruciating weight on her chest, as if someone was pushing down on her to press the air from her lungs. She stared at Drew with her teeth bared in anger. This was his doing.
Aspen pushed with all her might against the force. It felt as if a piece of glass had molded to her body. She pressed up against it, only able to resist it enough to breath. She screamed at Drew. She was still infuriated, and his retaliation wasn't helping.
"Don't insult me, Drew! Don't let your little mind game go to your head." She managed to make out. When Drew released her, she stayed silent. Soon. Soon Mars will take care of you. Soon, I won't be having to put up with this. Soon. She thought with disgust of him. She couldn't wait to see his face when the hammer came down. She wasn't weak, she had a new found temper. When Drew left the room, she stood up and brushed herself off. She looked up to Mars, looking for any sign of a reaction, weather it was shock, anger, or his typical apathy. He hadn't done anything, not that she expected him to. She nearly thought he would have walked out with Drew. But her only remark to mars was simply:"He makes me sick. Do with him what you want, but watch out for that.

Pain. In the back of my head. In my lower back. My lip even felt swollen.
I had woken up a good ten minutes ago, but still, the exhaustion ceased any action that I wanted to take place. I was in complete darkness and silence. They had cut the light, knowing it was an disadvantage on my end.
The first thing I had thought was that this was all some terrible dream. The dome, my parents disappearing. Even the creeper who knocked me out. But the beating that continued to rack my body reminded me that was not the case. I groaned and shifted in my position, scowling to myself. Where were Kayden and Ashland? Were they alright? Did they know I was gone, or why? Where was I, anyway? And what did Drew and Mars want me for?
I had already decided that just sitting there in the dark was better than anything else to do. Pretend to be weak, plus getting my body some rest, was the best option at this point. Nobody came for me. Not Drew, not Mars. Not my sisters. Which was good, because how could I live with myself knowing that they were, too, in the same fate, just because I had wanted to question Drew? And how long had I been out, anyway? I was guessing not very long—perhaps two hours.
So what else could I do, but silently wait in the dark and silent, hoping that perhaps I might find an escape? But let me tell you, if you’re reading this: I wasn’t waiting for any knight in shining armor or Edward Cullen to leap out of the trees. My knight in shining armor? That was my pistol and God. In fact, I made sure it was still loaded. Thankfully, Mars hadn't found it. Come on you psycho, I thought bitterly. But the only thing I had to wait for, to bring everything together, was when that door opened. So I continued to wait, patient. And hopefully, just hopefully, that door would open. And I’d have my chance.

Mars leaned against the wall, by the doorframe, arms crossed as watched it all transpire. He didn’t owe anything to either of them, so he did not say anything; did not try to keep it from happening. And perhaps that was strength in itself: letting Drew know that he didn’t have to do a thing. He just watched, silent, his eyes moving back and forth between the two. This was not only a great opportunity to see how Drew would react, but whether or not Aspen truly understood why he was doing this and if she was fully committed.
As Drew walked out, he raised an eyebrow, silent, menacing. Deceiving. “Great job, there,” He said sarcastically, patting Drew’s shoulder as the other boy walked out. The door shut and then locked. Mars turned to look back at Aspen. She was still fuming. He gave a half-shrug, still trying to surpass his slight surprise at her power—he could just tell she had one. And perhaps that was what put him off. That she was a freak and if she wanted to, she could use that against him if she ever thought what he was going to do was wrong. Well, maybe, to another, it would be. But he believed in revenge, and whatever he had to do to gain it.
He just silently nodded his head at her and looked away before walking out of the room, the stilled feeling of emotional detachment settling back in just as the silent, heavy boots began their stride once again. Always moving.
