Laurline heard Jasper's question, and now it was controlling her, building on more questions and possible solutions. Laurline piped up, "And why are you dressed so casually. This is your job after all," These questions were consuming her; Laurline needed to know the answers soon.

The teacher was quite surprised at the questions so early in the hour, though he simply responded to them in the order they were asked. "We will be starting in chapter one of our textbooks." He replied, looking to Key. He then shifted his gaze towards Jasper, "Yes. Though, I do not require one of the necklaces to allow me to shift. Of course, I used to go to this school because I myself had a necklace as well. After I graduated, the animal permanently bonded with me, so I have the ability to shift into it whenever I want." He responded. Finally, he looked towards Laurline. "Dressing fancy makes me feel too old."

Kaylee eventually perked up when the teacher begun to answer all of these questions. She was a bit surprised to hear that he went to this school before, and was actually able to bond with the animal spirit enclosed within the necklace. Will that happen with us as well? She suddenly thought.

Key's attention perked up after the teacher had answered Jasper's question. We can really do that? Thats amazing! He looked down at his necklace and blinked. It was strange how the world worked without this type of thing. Everyone in the class knew it was real, but if they told someone else in a Urban city, they would think we'd be insane. He then looked back up to his journal and began drawing once again.

Matthew's interest was sparked. His brow furrowed, carefully observing him. This man is completely unreadable, he though bitterly. He neatly wrote at the top of a page in his notebook, as he had taken to make a page of things to figure out. Most of the time his mind was scattered and writing down thoughts helped him remember. The page now said Is the math teacher shifter? Or is he lying?

Laurline grinned, no longer irritated by the teacher, and for the first time in a long time, she looked at her necklace with hope. If he can shift without the pendant, then I'll be able to shift with this thing with ease. She thought. Although, she still felt a twinge of annoyance, as the teacher didn't ask what they've already learned, and she felt held back. Again. She glanced over at Matthew, and read his handwriting, easily processing the words. Laurline knew she had a trust problem- she does trust people easily, leaving herself open to pain even more when she is lied to. Laurline raised her hand, and asked, "What animal can you shift into? Could you show us, please?"

Key

His concentration broke quickly and he turned to Laurline, "What? Laurline he is a Math Teacher he had no need to show us his animal!" Key looked like he was defending the teacher, but he was really only trying to avoid what the Teacher might turn into.

Laurline glanced at Key curiously. "Surely by now, if he can shift without the necklace, he can control the spirit- after all, he did say they bonded, and you are a human; you're harder to detect," Laurline reassured him. "Besides, if he did lose control, we're here too, and you wouldn't be completely helpless yourself," She added.

Completely embarrassed by what Laurline said on being completely helpless. He spoke up, "That is not what I meant, there is no need for him to prove himself because it simply doesn't matter! Unless he is the PE, or Ability Teacher I don't think we need to know what it is!" He was a little mad having everyone almost hearing what Laurline said about him.

Laurline frowned, confused at what Key just shouted. "I just said you would not be completely helpless. By that, I meant you'd be able to put up a fight and make your way out," She was fully understanding her accidental insult. "I didn't mean to insult you; rather do the opposite. I'm sorry for making you feel that way." Laurline looked down, angry with herself. Why didn't I just keep my fat mouth shut? She asked herself. But she wouldn't let the original topic go- she needed to see if Mr. Anderson could truly shift without a necklace. Without the proof, she'd be lost. Her wings were still prominent, and she felt embarrassed all over again.
