I'm pugtastic.

I would name this mutato Layla, and have her be female.

The name Layla means 'born in the night'. This mutato's design--cacti and a night sky-- reminded me of the saguaro cactus, which blossoms in the late spring and summer. Saguaro blossoms are rather unique because they open at night. I thought the name would be different and also pretty, like the white flowers of the saguaro cactus.

Layla sat anxiously on a cool stone, a blob of shifting furry mass. She stared into the waning daylight, admiring the last beautiful streaks of sunlight before they disappeared. The sunset wasn't what the little mutato had come for, though; she had actually wandered out into the desert because there was supposed to be a meteor shower that night. She could see stars beginning to show, and the moon slowly rose, but there was no sign of any meteors. Her ears drooped slightly and her eyes drifted toward the ground. Were there really going to be any shooting stars? She waited and waited, but to no avail. Just as the saddened mutato was about to set off for the little desert town she lived in, she caught sight of something breathtaking. A streak of white shot downwards through the sky, so quickly that if she had blinked she would've missed it. After a minute or so another followed. It was the simplest and most graceful thing Layla had ever seen. Content, she spent the rest of the night stargazing in peace.
