I can imagine. I joined last Febuary, and I didn't know last December, so I missed it. :c and I wonder why I can't seem to achieve my dreamies. Also, I was wondering: how is it that it was real eased, but not many get it? It is available for 24 hours, after all...

Well, the advent box when you adopt the pet you get
3 random pets from the box on Dec. 18th only.

Nope. They can be any pet ever. (except store pets)

So you might not even get a rare, VR, OMGSR, or UR.
You might get a 2011 uncommon. But, I have realized that most of
the time they are older pets, and most of the time are rares or better.

You might get 2 2011 uncommons and a UR dog, you never know.
