"Ah, nice to meet you, Holly," Ahote said, dipping his nose slightly in greeting. He listened to her short, if somewhat sad story, and shook his head.
"Well, I'm sorry to hear you have been lost for so long. I'm sure there is a place for you in Scarpaw Pack, but I will be sure to introduce you to our Alpha, Resin," he said, smiling a bit.
"She has offered the protection of the pack to all who would accept it as we travel south, and the same will be extended to you," he finished, studying Holly in the slanting moonlight. The young wolf is small and thin as a rake, the years of traveling alone having taken their toll. Silently, he wished there was food to offer her, but since no one had had time to hunt, he thought that promising without substance was cruel.
Until Resin and Ash returned there was no way Ahote could, in good conscience, send out the hunters. That line of thought stirred up the pit of worry in his stomach, and his ears tilted back in betrayal of his thoughts. Their trip in search of the wandering elder seemed to be taking far longer than he had expected, and he wondered what could have caused the delay. He longed to go searching for them, at least to see that they were alright, but there was no way that he would leave the pack unprotected.
Ahote's troubled thoughts drew his attention away from Holly for a moment, and he looked back out to the horizon, hoping to see some sign of their return. Of course, the snows beyond are empty, and he stares out at the vastness a bit disheartened. In an odd twist of fate, a figure does appear on the horizon, making it seem, completely by chance mind you, that Ahote actually knew there was someone coming. It is soon obvious that the wolf that approaches is not Resin nor her brother, as their course is meandering and slow, and the Alpha is always direct in her movements. Obviously not trying to make a stealthy approach, he watched as they came into view, and he knew almost immediately that this must have been the wandering elder.
Desperate for more information, Ahote almost got up to speak with the newcomer, but almost immediately decides against it. After all, he has Holly to look after, as well as the rest of the pack. If this grandmother was able to make it safely, surely, Resin and Ash must not be far behind. Instead, he hopes that Xani or one of the other wolves on watch will get up to greet her. Strangely, everyone else seems to be just as comfortable with her presence as he is, and it is only after she has walked into their midst and made herself at home that Attican gets up to investigate.
Shaking his head, Ahote turns his attention back to Holly.
"See? Even now there are others joining the pack," he said, sounding a bit bemused.
