Kelly sat deathly still, listening intently to Starfish, his eyes locked on her every emotion. He could see her falling apart as she told her story, and his heart ached with hers, his mind overwhelmed with his condolences.
"Starfish, I, I'm sorry..."
Kelly grabbed Starfish tightly, pulling her in close. He could feel sadness and fear emanating off of her, her heart pounding against his chest. He hated hearing Star's story, and he especially hated the one who drove her ino hiding; the stalker. He balled his fist at the thought, and his palms began to bleed as his nails dug into his skin. He let go, wiping the tears from Starfish's eyes.
"Star, I promise you, no one will ever hurt you again; ever. I'll die before I let anyone harm you."

"I haven't felt safe in three years," Starfish whispered softly, burrowing into his fur. "Until... until now." As she said the words, she realized how true it was. "Right now... I feel safe..." /Safe because you're here. Safe because you're here and holding me and you want me and you won't ever let me go... will you?/

"Starfish, I promise, no matter what, as long as you're with me, you'll be safe. I'll never let you down. I'll never let you go."
Kelly pulled Star closer, making sure that something so perfect could really be there, and it was; Her caramel swirled with hot cocoa fur, perfectly dotted with little pink starfish, with the most gorgeous eyes to top it off. /Oh, wow, her eyes, they just.../ The perfect coral color, and they glittered in just the right way. /I have no idea how I would ever live without this incredible girl./

Starfish lay curled up against Kelly's chest by the fireplace, his arms wrapped protectively around her. Star warmed her paws against the chill of the oncoming night with the small fire Kelly had made. Kelly gently stood up, leaning Star against the stool he had been laying against.
"Do you want a blanket? It's gonna get colder."
Kelly stood and stretched his legs, groaning slightly. He couldn't imagine how Star had stayed inside for so long with no way to really stretch out your body.

S T A R F I S H

Starfish shivered with the sudden cold that came as Kelly pulled away, despite the fireplace.

"I'm fine," she said, sitting up slightly and reaching a paw out to him. "Don't go, I'm lonely already." She felt a yawn bubbling up in her throat and swallowed, closing her eyes for a second before tucking herself closer to the fire. She was already starting to feel tired from the mental strain, however delicious, of being with another bean for this long. /I guess I'll just have to get used to it./ It was a happy anticipation.

"You'll want one in a bit when the sun goes down."
Kelly grabbed the hand-knitted blanket off the back of the couch, draping it over Star's shoulders. He waited for her to get it the way she wanted, admiring her every trait; she was just simply gorgeous, her eyes glowing golden pink in the light of the blazing fire.
"It's getting dark, I don't want to keep you up, so I guess I should go home.."

Starfish sighed, even though she knew he was right.

"You could stay the night," she said hopefully, and then blushed as she realized how awkward it sounded. "I mean, uh, there's a guest bedroom and everything..." She snuggled into the blanket, her eyes drinking in every bit of him. "Well, nevermind," she said, suddenly feeling contented and warm inside, a strangely foreign feeling. "You'll come back again tomorrow, though, right?" Somewhere deep inside her, there was still a little lump of fear that told her that maybe he wouldn't come back if he left now.
