"Shall we go to Joyce's?" Zoey suggested, fitting on her sunglasses. Nero nodded and Zoey drove her way to Joyce's, hoping that she was there. They were good friends, even though Joyce was busy a lot of the time, and Zoey too. Zoey would mostly be busy tending to her sheep or out in the Valley, tracking the wolf packs. She turned down the road, making rocks and dirt fly up behind them as they moved onto the paved road. She drove to the highway, annoyed with people's driving these days as they were so slow, and some didn't even know how to drive. Zoey passed another person and they stared at the Nero who growled back at them. Zoey's laugh was engulfed by the wind as she drove on.

S watched his dog with blank eyes, then the cat, then the girl, then nothing. He had a habit of staring at complete nothingness. Socrates knew the cat wasn't a threat, but he didn't draw back. He growled, making himself plop down on the ground from a very simplistic hand sign that came form S. After moving his finger a fraction of an inch, the dog was at his command. "Yeah." He agreed simply, his dark, mysterious eyes on the ground. No one, not even his parents, had been able to figure him out. And he doubted anyone would...considering he barely understood himself.

"Callie's more calm. But, then again, cats are very patient," Amber observed. "But that's nothing like myself." She laughed. Callie pressed closer to Amber's side, her tail up in the air and waving about slightly. "So, what do you do for a living?" she tried. This person, S, was so quiet, he could even be half-dead.

S listened vaguely, not exactly listening at all. He just watched the ground idly, not going forward, or going backward in his nonexistent goal. Just staring. Socrates picked up on his owner's not-so-positive mood and growled, his teeth bared.
S made another small movement and Socrates stopped, but a small growl remained. Barely catching the question, he answered in a small, quiet voice, "Nothing." It almost sounded like a snap; he could be very irritable sometimes.

"Oh, really?" Amber answered. She looked off to the side, glancing at Callie. "I work at Stars Rising Animal Studies. It's really a nice place." She shifted from foot to foot in the grass, not wanting to look at S's eyes.

S sighed, his gaze on his dog now. For some reason, he was getting annoyed. He didn't like to talk, but he managed to wrench out a few words. "Interesting." He stopped, then randomly decided to say more, though it didn't fit the conversation well.
Anger rose inside him. "Animals are nicer than a lot of things..." ...like people. He rose his half-closed-with-boredom dark eyes and stared at her. Just gave her a spine-chilling, cold stare.

Amber tried to stare back at him, but ended up looking away, unnerved.
Think he's had a bad experience with people? she thought at Callie.
Callie simply flicked Amber's back with her tail. Who knows? Maybe.
"Well, I guess I should be going now," Amber said uncertainly, rising to her feet. She decided to go to her home, and maybe then go to Joyce's. "Bye."

S's mood drastically changed as he smiled the biggest he could before saying in the loudest voice he could muster, which still wasn't very loud, "Bye." Socrates' mood changed too-- he got up, tail wagging, tongue lolling, and followed S back to his house.

Amber noticed the smile, and hurried back home. Once she was inside, back in the cool, air-conditioned interior, she headed into the kitchen, and leaned on the counter as she looked down at Callie.
"Don't you think that he was kind of happy to see us go?" she asked her pet.
The cat simply nodded vigorously while flicking her tail back and forth, obviously agreeing with Amber.
"Okay. Well, that kind of sucks. I wonder if I'll see him around again?" she mused.
