Well, Studio Ghibli is the Japanese animation film studio that is best known for its anime feature films. The studio's logo features Totoro himself along with one of the mini-Totoro. Without Studio Ghibli, it's quite likely that My Neighbour Totoro and all the other wonderful animations done by the studio would not receive such notable recognition and praise.

My favourite scene from My Neighbour Totoro is shortly after Mei meets Totoro for the first time, after she falls from the tree and lands on his belly. I love the part when Mei roars back at Totoro before trying to interpret his name. When I watched it for the first time only a couple of weeks ago I was certain that Totoro was going to get angry and scare her. How he rolled his eyes at one point during that scene also made me laugh. Such a patient forest spirit ^^

Ghibli's favourite pastime is to stash acorns. During the periods of 'rest' that he must succumb after every 20 or so hours of flying, he likes to try and busy himself by locating acorns that have either fallen fresh from the oak or he'll pluck ones straight from the branch. He'll then take these acorns with him as he goes before returning to a secret acorn larder that he has hidden away within a giant hollow tree. Particularly during the colder months, Ghibli can later be seen sharing these acorns with hungry animals (regardless to whether or not they want them), or he can be found burying some where there are no trees.

There is still three and a half hours to complete the forms, but I suppose I will wait to judge the forms until noon tomorrow.

Due to lack of finished entries, I will be extending the competition by three days, but I expect to see some amazing forms!

Name

+Howl

Reason For Name

+I really like Hayao Miyazaki movies! Although Spirited Away is my favorite movie of his, I still really loved Howl's Moving Castle! (If you haven't seen either of those movies-even though you probably did- Then you totally should!) I thought that Howl's personality fits this pet the best!

Favorite Scene

+My favorite scene for My Neighbor Totoro is when Totoro is messing around with the umbrella! <3 He is so cute! I thought it was so funny that he kept making the rain fall, so he could hear the sound of it but still not get wet. :D I also adored how considerate the older sister was being, even though she didn't have to be. She is such a sweet girl.

Soooo that's it! Hope you enjoyed my post! Thanks!

The above quote in Japanese is the motto of the Studio Ghibli Museum in Tokyo.
It translates roughly to "let's lose our way together" - and that is my goal with
my application for this Mutato :)

The above kanji is the Japanese character for "kokoro" -
which is a word unique to the Japanese language. It means
"heart" but it doesn't refer to just the muscle. It also refers
to the collection of feelings in your mind that our Western
culture typically associates with the heart. So "heart" and "soul"
are really the same word in the Japanese language.

I would call her Kokoro, because Studio Ghibli movies have always really affected me at the core, in the heart and soul. She goes by "Koko" for short though. I find this name appropriate because it also rhymes with Totoro, in a way. Kokoro the Totoro Mutato!

It is hard for me to pick out my favorite scene from this movie that I have loved so much since my childhood. But, if I was forced to pick a single scene, it would be the scene where Mei finds out that their mother has been hospitalized again, when she was supposed to be coming home from the hospital, and the resulting fight that she has with Satsuki. That's a strange part of the film to consider my favorite, since it's quite sad. But I am the oldest of two daughters, and my mother has been very sickly for most of my life (she has a condition in her nerves). The feelings in this scene of the movie struck me particularly deep, even as a child. The sisters blame each other for their mother not getting better, and I personally know so well that with a sick family member there are so many fights about blame. I could see myself and my little sister in Satsuki and Mei's position. And I felt Mei's desperation as she decided to bring the ear of corn to their mother. I know the desperation of wishing for my mother to get better, to the point that I would do anything. In this scene of the film, I was both Mei and Satsuki. I could put myself in their shoes exactly. Even as an adult, recalling the scene makes me emotional. While yes, this is a film about a large furry forest guardian, I believe it is more so a film about little girls growing up, and the love a child feels for their parents. In this scene, which I believe is the climax of the movie, that is painfully apparent.

For my extra, I have decided to tell you about where this Mutato lives. Kokoro dwells inside the Studio Ghibli Museum in Tokyo, Japan. She hides behind the scenes during the day, and comes out at night to creep around the grounds and explore. The Studio Ghibli Museum is located in Mitaka, a district of Tokyo. It is a little pocket of fantasy in the huge urban area of Tokyo. I have actually been to the Studio Ghibli Museum! I went there this past May. While the museum does not allow pictures of the inside of the building, I took many pictures outside. Here are some pictures I took that show you where this Mutato lives!

Image
This is the tallest tower of the
museum, covered in vines!
Koko loves to scurry up it's height to
look out at the city below her! There
is a spiral staircase in the tower, which
she climbs and climbs - she loves to
peer out through the leaves!

Image
This is an old pump well, right inside
of the museum! It is the place where
Koko likes to go to get drinking water!

Image Image
A sink, right in the central
courtyard of the museum,
where Koko likes to bathe and
play in the nice cold water!

Image
Another feature of the museum that Koko loves is this giant robot,
meant to represent the robot from Castle in the Sky.
Koko has never seen a Studio Ghibli film, aside from the short movies
that they show in the theater inside of the building
(which I have no pictures of sadly). She just calls him "Mr. Robot"
and communicates with him as though he were real, and as though he could
actually interact with her. She tells him her problems and considers him
to be her best friend, even though he never talks back. She imagines
he is just very wise and will speak to her if he ever needs to.
She doesn't realize he is just a statue in the garden.
