Brackenpaw raced up another nearby tree, hoping to find another squirrel. But he had searched to an avail. He cursed under his breath, then left the tree. He went back to his little pile of squirrels. He had caught and killed six squirrels. A good number for him.

Brackenpaw sighed. He snatched up the squirrels by their fluffy tails, then brought them back to where Shadowpaw and he had started. He laid them out in front of him, counting six. "How many did you catch?"

Shadowpaw dropped the squirrels and counted. "I've got seven. You?"

"I don't believe you. I've got six," Brackenpaw meowed, his ears against his head. He wasn't mad at her, but a little unhappy. Anyone who knew him well, knew that he didn't like losing.

Shadowpaw's ears perked. "Really?" She asked, looking over at his. She smiled, enjoying the smell of victory. "Not today, brackenpaw." She purred.

With an angry sniff, he snatched up his squirrels and padded back towards camp. He squeezed through the opening in the bramble wall then laid the squirrels on the fresh-kill pile. He looked up at his father, Bramblestar, who gave him a nod of approval.

Shadowpaw picked up her squirrels and ran after him. "Brackenpaw!" She raced into camp, and dropped her squirrels on the pile. "What was that for?"

Brackenpaw looked away from Bramblestar to Shadowpaw. "Nothing," he said bleakly. He also hated to admit losing. He wanted to leave it behind and move rather than grudge on with it. "At least we've got food for the Clan."

Shadowpaw waved it away, and excitement replaced her complaint. "Yeah! 13 squirrels in one hunt; that's really something."
