Jace
Male
Jace is a Greek name that means "a healing".
While researching different name ideas as well as peppermint itself, one thing that kept
catching my attention was peppermint's uses in medicine. For centuries peppermint has
been used to help cure all types of ailments, from headaches to upset stomachs to
heartburn. Some even believe that the aroma of peppermint can help with alertness
and memory.
Since childhood Jace has always had a very kind and loving soul. He goes out of his way to
help anyone and everyone he can, even if it doesn't include healing. On slow days it's not
uncommon for him to be found assisting a child with homework or helping someone move
something heavy. Jace loves his town and all of the people in it more than anything; he'll
help even the rudest stranger but he goes much further out of his way for those in his
community.
Family and community spirit mean everything to Jace. He still has a room in his parents'
home so he can return at a moment's notice in case he's needed. His mother and father mean
the world to him and he'll drop any non-medicinal work in a second to help them. Whenever he
spends times with children, he does his best to be an example of what he feels a good person
is - someone who cherishes their family, loves their community, and selflessly helps those
around him in any way they can.
Although his work keeps him incredibly busy, Jace makes as much time as he can to devote
to learning. He feels that being educated about as much as possible is a very important thing
and does everything he can to encourage youngsters to love learning. Since there are no texts
containing any medical-related info about his town's healers and healing practices, Jace especially
loves to read about the medical practices of other places. He uses this knowledge to help him
improve the techniques that his father taught him and make the town an even healthier place.
Aside from medical texts, Jace also loves reading adventure stories, biographies of all types, and
overdramatic romance novels. He loves curling up with a good book at the end of a long day, the
only time he gets a moment to himself. When he's feeling down, Jace likes to snuggle up by the
fireplace with one of his beloved children's books; they never fail to put a smile on his face.
A soft cry escaped the blankets nestled close in the female's arms. Exhaustion was heavy
on her face, but the face of her husband held only joy. At last, he was a father! And his
boy, his perfect handsome boy, he was the salvation the village so desperately needed.
The husband, a wise old deer called Samuel, was the town's one and only healer. Each
generation one child, male or female, is born with blue eyes - the one destined to be the
new healer.
Back in the old days, many generations ago, blue-eyed children were born so much that
fully trained healers began to travel the world, settling down in other towns and villages
that needed them. Their land was peaceful and calm, nearly free of disease and flowing
with happiness. Everyone prospered, from the creatures to the land and all in between.
But no such peace could ever last.
A terrible plague swept over the land, claiming the lives of many. Nearly all of the healers
were wiped out and blue eyed children became incredibly rare. Sometimes an entire
generation passed without a blue eyed child being born, forcing the current healer to stay
at their post for decades longer than expected.
Samuel had been the healer for three generations already and was so very tired. He just
wanted to rest and sleep, but he had a duty to help the people of his town. For years the
townsfolk had been growing more and more desperate, terrified and lost because of the
absence of a blue eyed newborn. But this, Samuel's own son, would bring hope back to
them. After so many years they'd finally be able to rest peacefully, knowing that Samuel
was diligently training their new healer.
The newborn was named after one of the most beloved and influential healers; the one who
single-handedly turned over 50 blue eyed children into masterful healers capable of curing
nearly any ailment. No one could count how much healing the legendary Jace did himself,
but he is praised and credited for many generations of near-perfect health among the
townsfolk and nearby villages.
Young Jace had a big name to live up to and from the moment he was allowed to begin
training he tried his very best to do just that. He took his destiny to heal very seriously
and wanted nothing more than to help the townsfolk - and everyone else he possibly could.
As young Jace grew older and began to take on more and more responsibility, it became very
clear that he was not only incredibly dedicated, but he was also incredibly gifted. Some of the
older townsfolk began to refer to him as the reincarnation of the legendary Jace, but the
younger citizens were a bit harder to impress to such a degree.
When young Jace was finally finished with his training and Samuel was able to retire at long
last, word of his talents quickly began to spread. He was soon believed to be on par with the
legendary Jace and illness quickly faded away in the town. Within a handful of years creatures
from all over the world began making the journey to visit Jace in an attempt to find a cure for
themselves or a loved one. Young or old, weak or strong, bed-ridden or running, bleeding or
coughing, Jace did his best to help every single one of them. No illness was too small, no disease
was too advanced. No matter the patient or problem, Jace put his heart and soul into every remedy
he baked and every potion he brewed.
