Answer: Dastan's greatest wish is to find out what happened to his mother. He would do anything just to see her again. It all stems from that one fateful day. Dastan was born into a small herd of Nukitta. His father had died defending the herd from a mountain lion before he was born. His mother was his greatest friend; but then, the poachers came. They set the forest alight in attempt to smoke out the elusive Nukittas. The herd was startled by the choas as they desperately tried to flee from the fire and a six month old Dastan was seperated from his mother. The herd was split; Dastan and a few others made it up the mountain and waited there until the rain came and extinguished the fire. Their part of the forest was nothing more than ash; and Dastan never saw his mother again. He stayed with his herd until he was two years old. However, he always felt his mother was still out there, somewhere. On his second birthday, Dastan bid farewell to his herd and set out alone to search for his mother. Three years down the line, and he still has not found his closure.

The moon is very interesting to him. Tending to ignore the things around the moon, he'd focus on the moon. Especially when it was a full moon.
