Where was he? She called his name, didn't people respond to their names? What would she know. She took enough time trying to find out what a butterfly was. There was a crunching noise, it calmed her, though it got louder, and she got scared. What animal was coming for her? Animal? She was clueless, she left it at that. She did not want to figure the pointless stuff out. She wanted help, and this person, David. She heard the crunching noise once more. It was from the leaves, that were from the, big tall brown things, she did not know the name of them. But then everything fell silent, what was happening?

you, yes you, Addelyyn, listen up, buddy. You have important business. Find David, then I will explain once you find somewhere safe, I will instruct you further

'Uh, hello?' She called. Who was that? Before the person could respond, The silence disappeared and she saw a man appear in front of her. Was this, was this David? Maybe it was him who had in her head, how did he get there? No. It couldn't be. The person in her head was female, she could tell by the tone. Maybe David attempted a female voice, although stupid of him, it was her only conclusion. He drew closer as he yelled her name. The first yell had a question tone in it. Was he asking if she was here? Of course she was, she yelled his name, after all. He twisted and turned but she did not yell to show him where she was. He could figure it out himself. And with the second yell, something jotted her memory. How did he know her name? Was it like her, or different? Did someone tell him, if do, how did they know her name. The line of who knew her name could be endless. Maybe she knew them, but forgot. Right now the only person who she knew was David. She was lost in her own thought train, and got woken up when David moved a strand of her hair. It rejoined its ground behind her ears. He poked her cheek, it was wierd. Do humans do this often? Poke each others cheeks? But the sentence following it put her into a deeper state of confusion. 'Anyone 'ome?'
What did that mean? There was no house, none standing here that she knew of. Maybe David was crazy. She hoped not, the voice told her she had to ind this guy. Would she have to live with him too? Addelyynn did not like the idea of a crazy man being her room mate. The idea itself was crazy. She moved her head to face David's. 'Yes, I am home. But I hate to admit, there is no home here.'" She commented. She added a slight intelligent like tone on the end, would that offend? What if the voice got angry at her because she offended David? Ohh she hoped not. She came to the conclusion that Voice was in her head. It could do so many things to her if it was in her head. 'David, where are we?' She asked. Why would she ask that. If David was like her than he wouldn't come to the same answer. The question, so far, was unsolvable. Was she an idiot now? The Voice could tell her that.

[sorry its short, been a tad busy but I tried shipping up a post for you, didn't want it to die, not this early c:]

DAVID

David peered at Addelyyn, his gaze questioning as she responded to his question. Did she not realise that his question was not one to be answered in that manner? David did not say a word, but watched Addelyyn, before rising to his feet abd brushing off his clothing, watching as the leaf litter and mud fell back to the forest floor. Why had he just attempted to clean his clothing? Well, for a start, he would have not looked presentable to his companion, who was clearly thinking far more logically than he, and something in his head had just told him to do so. Was it his friend, again? No, he hadn't heard her speak, so it couldn't have been her. It was impossible. Well, close to impossible, at least. Was it an impulsive movement? David wasn't entirely sure, but his trail of thought ended there, as Addelyyn asked him a question; where were they? It was a good question, and a feeling of unease rested in David's stomach, and he looked down at his companion, tilting his head to one side, and then the other. Didn't she know? It was clear she did not, and David fought a heavy sigh. Well, this was problematic.

"Well, it seems I am just as knowledgeable as you on this matter," David replied, his tone simplistic and blunt. Looking around, David attempted to deduce their surroundings. There were trees, those tall, brown things with the green things on them, there were rocks, and an ample amount of dirt. "You're in a forest, dummy." the monotonous tone echoed in his head, and he looked around. She was back! "We're in a f-f-f-forest," David piped up, furrowing his brow at the stutter. It was a foreign word to his tongue, but he hadn't expected his linguistics to struggle that much.

"What the..." the sounds of tapping filled his thoughts, and David looked around frantically. "David, don't move. Whatever you do, stay as still as you can. Something's not right..." More tapping. What in the world was going on?

"Bonjour! Ohayou gozaimasu! G'day mate! SUP? Hola!" The words just kept coming, and David was frightened, eyes wide and his hands covering his mouth, but it was absolutely useless. "Dia dhuit! Yassou! Good show!" What was She doing to him? Why was she making him yell out of all these random words? Stop it! he mentally screamed, the copious amounts of tapping making his scowl. Addelyyn probably thought he was a freak! Though, weren't they both? The flow of words stopped, and David looked around at the trees, his eyes scanning the perimeter. Surely, there had been someone else out there, besides the two of them, that could have heard him blurting out random words! But it seemed that there hadn't been, and the tapping ceased, and David heard a relieved sigh."Linguistics are normal..." She spoke. "Sorry about that David, they mustn't have tuned you properly. Fools, I'll be having a nice chat to them, later." Who was 'them'? David didn't know, but he merely nodded to himself, before looking back at Addelyyn (he seemed to do it often, he felt comfortable watching her), and his eyes widened, upon realisation of her position.

"You're hurt, we need to find you medicinal treatment." he observed. No kidding, of course she knew it, but him speaking out loud was more of a method of confirmation for himself, rather than for her. She would be able to walk, and David observed his surroundings once more. Something was drawing him to the east, and without giving his companion another glance, David turned, and began to walk in that direction. She would follow him sooner or later; or she would be alone. It was her choice, but if she was logical, she would follow him. David's shoes crunched against the leaf litter and dirt, and the smell of wet mud filled his nostrils, making David crinkle his nose in disgust. It was a rather unpleasant odor, and he was looking forward to getting away from the scent. Allowing his instincts to take control, David felt his pace quicken, before he broke out into a run, his laughter leaving a trail of amusement in his wake. It felt so good! It wasn't long before the enjoyment of running was nulled, and David slowed to a walk, pausing as he admired the sight before him. Their refuge, a small, dark cave. It would be good enough for the time being, until the two of them knew what was going on. Looking back behind him, David quickly scanned the area for signs of Lyyn joining him, before he hurried inside the cave.

"Have a seat, I'm sure your companion will join us shortly," came a monotone, male voice. David jumped, and looked around, before obediently sitting down on a rock, twiddling his thumbs awkwardly. It was dark, and just a little bit cold, and as soon as the thought left his head, a feeling of warmth spread through his body, and a green, eerie glow emanated from David's hands, and his eyes widened in surprise. How had he done that? It was so cool! David grinned, before he heard a loud sigh, and he looked around. "You humans are amazed by the pettiest of things," the male voice complained. "I assure you, young man, there are far more exciting things in the world, compared to glowing appendages." David dropped his head in shame, his mind registering that there was another in his head. How he had done so? He wasn't too sure about that, either. It seemed like he was full of uncertainty, and David cursed under his breath and shook his head. He didn't enjoy this feeling very much.

"Give the boy a break, Paladeen," a whole-hearted voice scolded playfully. "They reset him completely, his neurons will still be adjusting to their... Upgrades, if you will." Upgrades? What upgrades? And what were neurons? What did they mean by 'resetting him'? Numerous questions danced around in his head, but David did not speak, but instead shuffled his feet, feeling rather out of place in the conversation. He heard Paladeen mutter a few inappropriate words under his breath, and a small smiled twitched on the ends of David's face. The majority of these 'voices' seemed rather cranky, did they not get up on the right side of the bed that morning? For a reason (which David didn't quite understand), this thought made David burst out laughing. Why was it so funny? David heard a growl and he quickly stopped, biting his bottom lip to stop himself from laughing again.

"Those neurons are going to take some time to rejoin," Paladeen snapped, and David snorted. Paladeen sounded like the type that rolled out of bed and faceplanted the floor every morning. But before David could start laughing again, a sharp voice cut him off, like a hot knife through butter.

"Where in tarnation is the girl!?" David flinched at the voice, instinctively cowering. Their voice leaked power, and David didn't like the feeling of it, whatsoever. "David, your companion better show up, or your heart will end just as quickly as it started beating." David cringed, but nodded quickly, closing his eyes. Oh Addelyyn, hurry up! he silently pleaded, the eerie glow from his hands glowing brighter in response.

Only time would tell if Addelyyn was to show.

he stood in front of her, so this was David. He gazed at her, did she do something wrong? She probably did, oh, did she? She grabbed a stick and started to break it, standing up straight before slumping because of her injury, she snapped the stick and dropped the two sides. It had not split straight, but jagged, she didn't bother to observe anymore. Her previous question was soon answered, he did not know. No, he did, a forest. She had not heard of it before. Something new, then. She looked at the ground as a white sheet of something flew by. It fluttered near her right foot, before being whipped up once more. She watched as it fluttered slowly by her left, she stepped on it. But she didn't command herself, why, did she step on it? 'its going to help, read it, later on'. The Voice did it. She was about to start her action of bending down, when David opened his mouth. She looked surprised, what was he doing? Different words came out of his mouth, none were familiar with her petty knowledge. She looked around for any signs of a different life force.

'uh oh, apparently its a coding problem. Addy, can I call you that? Addy, don't, don't think of saying anything, I just need to...

She grabbed her ears as a screaming noise filled her head. She bent over even more, but the noise would not stop. She heard grunting noises, it was the voice. She gritted her teeth and closed her eyes, the world was nothing but screaming. But then it stopped, she put her hands back in her pockets, opened her eyes and smiled, no gritted teeth.

hmm, sorry about that. But at least you won't speak a different language.

Language? What, what was that? Maybe it was what David was saying? Probably, she did not wish to speak like that. She could see he was embarrassed by his little language trip, she thanked The Voice silently for fixing that. It may have hurt, but she wasn't going to embarrass herself now. Before she could do anything David observed her. He said she was hurt, she smiled but shook her head, she wasn't, no. Wait, she was. She now remembered sliding down the tree, leaving digging marks in her back. David looked around before wondering off, deep into the forest. She grabbed the paper and moved, following him. She couldn't walk that fast, or run for anything, so she followed his noisy steps as leaves crumbled under both of their feet, if anything was here, it knew they were too.

She walked a fair while before reaching her companion who was now sitting on a rock. Did he fill like he accomplished something? Sitting on a rock, maybe he did, if he didn't know anything like her. She heard voices. They were cranky, but she could hardly set them apart. She heard the threats they posted too him, so she burst through the clearing, hissing and looking down as her back hurt. She stuffed the paper into her shorts and sat besides David, awaiting the next command.

(( sorry it isn't so descriptive ;n; ))

DAVID

His glowing hands were providing him with a small feeling of comfort, as they changed from green, to blue, to purple, to red, and to various other colours. Though, Paladeen had said there were far cooler things he could do. What else could he do? Could he make things appear, and disappear? Could he change the colours of things? Where were the answers? David sighed under his breath and closed his eyes, smiling as a small feeling of warmth touched his face, the feeling of comfort becoming a little more dominant. Though, it was quick to disappear as he heard a growl, and he winced. Perhaps it had been a bad idea for him to run off and leave his companion behind, and now he was going to pay for it. "Crumbs, here she comes." David heard Paladeen grumble. "I was really looking forward to seeing what He was going to do to dear David..." David's immediate response was to growl and stare at the wall, fists curling up. It was rather stupid of him to stare at the wall, but for some reason, he was drawn to there. "Oh don't look at the wall like that, Daffy dear, you humans have never been my favourite specie to use for this task."

"Oh shut up, milk drinker." David snapped. That name; 'Daffy'... For some reason, it drove him up the wall, and for another reason, milk drinker was the best insult he had. He heard someone suck in a shocked breath, and David couldn't resist the smile that spread itself across his face. It seemed like a rather pathetic insult to him... but according to the reaction he had just received, it seemed rather rude, which was brilliant. "I don't see you doing anything important with your life, so who are you to talk, Paladeen? Keep your trap shut, your lowering everyone else's intelligence to a mere grub whenever you open your mouth. No one wants to hear you."

"Ooooooh. Buuuuurn." the light-hearted voice chimed in. "Though, might want to watch your language, Dave. Might getcha in trouble around here." Before the bickering could continue, David looked to his left, sighing in relief as Addelyyn was once again at his side. He was quick to lean over and give a soft hug, ignoring the thoughts that sat in his head. It was illogical for him to have done what he did, but he didn't care. It wasn't like Paladeen was going to tell him what to do. Oh no, if David ever got the chance to meet the source of that annoying voice, he was going to rip their vocal chords out, and wear them as a necklace. A little violent, sure, but it was probably much nicer than the other things his mind could generate. A small smile twitched on his face as the glow on his hands changed to a dark blue colour, lighting up his entire face as he looked over at Addelyyn, before turning his attention back to the wall. Something was intriguing about it, he just couldn't pinpoint it, or even specify such.

"Oh good, she's here." the voice that had threatened David spoke. "And in good time, too."

"Let's get on with it, then!"

"Yes, let's get these filthy creatures out of my sight, they're killing my sensors."

    "Get over yourself, Pala."

"Paladeen, Mensa, if you want to go back home this afternoon, both of you will shut up."

    "Sorry, Jasebi."

As David listened to the voices speak, he tilted his head to the side. Right, so, the scary one was Jasebi, the nicer one was Mensa, and the grumpy one who needed to go and find himself some method of pleasure was Paladeen. He was probably going to forget that sooner or later, but David didn't really mind, nodding in satisfaction from his current decision. Perhaps his opinions would change later on, if he was lucky enough to meet more of these voices. But that was only if he didn't get himself into trouble, first. With such thoughts, David shuddered, rubbing his hands up and down his arms, as if the sensation was making him feel any better. Warmer, sure, but not any less concerned. It was clear that the voices had the further instructions waiting to be passed on, so why were they holding off? Why were they stalling? What was holding them back? David huffed, and folded his arms, tapping his foot expectantly. He wanted his instructions, so where were they?

As if someone was waiting for him to ask, the cave wall twisted and contorted, changing itself into a large gap. David's eyes widened, and he shuffled back a little on his rock. His eyes filled with awe, David watched as a yellow glowing liquid oozed out of the large gap, and came to a pool at their feet. "Feet up, ladies and gents!" Mensa instructed and David was quick to obey, pulling his legs up and curling into a ball, watching as the liquid bubbled and fizzed, hissing here and there, festering on the ground below his feet. David's nose crinkled in disgust at the foul odor that was being secreted. Like... sewerage? What was sewerage? Well, it was something that his nose didn't like, and David grunted disapprovingly hearing a few clucks from one of the three voices, and the sound of tapping keys. The gap in the wall closed, a loud groan echoing though the cave, and the liquid changed colour from yellow to a dark brown, the scent becoming less unappealing and more... delicious. Ah, his mind could identify this smell; it was chocolate! He loved chocolate, apparently.

"Lean down, and drink some of the liquid," Jasebi instructed, his tone slightly nicer. "Worry not, it's nothing bad."

David was apprehensive, and he uncurled himself, managing to balance on his hands and knees, and peer down curiously at the liquid. It smelt good, and it looked good, but the question was, did it taste good? Tentatively reaching down, David scooped up some of the liquid in his hand, marveling at the warmth. Well, there was no time to waste! Lifting his hand to his face, David took a sip, eyes widening at the taste. It did taste like chocolate! But how did he know what chocolate tasted like? How did he - oh.

    Ooooooooooooooooh.

    What a pretty bird!

    Birdy! Birdy! Come here birdy!

    FEATHERS!

"Bir-deeeeeeee!" David slurred, his eyes rolling back and his jaw dropping open. He fell forward and off the rock, narrowly missing the liquid. A loud snore echoed from his sleeping body, and Paladeen snorted.

"You can brief him, Mensa." Paladeen's voice echoed through the cave. "Your turn, Addelyyn. I can assure you, your slumber will be far more graceful than that." As if on cue, a loud snore ricocheted through the cave, and Paladeen laughed.

    "Stupid human."

Addy was sill confused. All these powers and new faces, she had little time to herself, no time at all to remember these. As long as her companion could remember things, she would be right, hopefully. He seemed easily distracted, playing with the glowing hands, Pal- no maybe it was, no it was Paladeen who had showed him. Although she was angered by her companions interest in small items, she was intrigued. What could she do? She se her mind to it. She turned her hand over and focused, focused. She had remembered what Paladeen had told her about the powers, set your mind to it. She grabbed the sir in frustration, unable to think. What was her power? How could she set her mind to something she didn't know about? She pondered further before relying the though of 'power' in her mind. Would this do something?

Addelynn ,jumped back in amaze. The leaf that was scurrying towards the ground in an elegant dance had disappeared, gone, evaporated. She was not one to glow hands, if that was use, but she could make objects disappear. She had to admit, it was tiring, and it was only a leaf! She clicked her fingers and the leaf returned, fluttering back to its resting point. She confirmed it. It was the same leaf. She picked it up before it was swatted away by a hand, who knows who it belong to. She focused towards the voices, speaking about the cauldron in front of them. The liquid contained in it bubbled slightly, twisting and turning, mixing the two colors of purple and green. She thought her helpers might of chosen more, lovelier colors for such task, but her wish was not granted. She watched Daniel dip down and-

Oh. Oh god. That hideous colored liquid turned Daniel into a bird! Sort of. She slipped off the log once more as Daniel commented about birds, birds. She smiled weakly as he trumpeted towards the cave. It was a fake smile, she was not happy, god no, not when Daniel was a bird. Sort of. She sat back up and shook her head, she did not wish to turn into a bird.

She flicked her wrist and knelt down, sipping the liquid. Until-
She hit the ground and smiled wickedly. She was not a bird, but oh, she wanted to break fire. A dragon, might she say. She huffed and small steam moved from her mouth, the air was chilly, it was not smoke, but it satisfied her. She knocked her head and tried a roar, unsuccessful. She waved to Pal- no Jasebi and fell to sleep

DAVID

    He flew.

His small physique soared in the sky, feathers ruffling as the wind buffeted them, and David laughed. All those times as a child when he wished he could fly, and here he was! A child? What was a child? David faltered for a moment, slowing down and tilting his small head to the side. It seemed like a 'childhood' was of importance to him, but he couldn't exactly work out why. But it mattered not at that moment, it was time to enjoy the moment of freedom that he had at that time. With one a big flap of his wings, David propelled himself higher into the sky, a twitter of happiness leaving his beak as he swiveled, swirled and flipped over and over again, obviously enjoying himself.

But the sky grew dark and the air cold, and it was becoming difficult for David to fly. What was going on? Where was Addelyyn? The thoughts that he had pushed away began to force themselves into his mind, and David shook his head. His paranoia was unrealistic, as was the thought of him being a bird. This was all generated in his head, it had to be! "Ah, you still display traits of being human, it seems," the voice was familiar to him... Oh! It was Mensa! Well, it was good that it wasn't Paladeen, or David wasn't so sure that he would be able to pay attention to that abomination of a... thing... drone on and on about something he didn't even know about. "The human interpretation of what is real, and what seems to be a part of their dream realm is rather intriguing. Don't you think, David?" David did not utter a word, instead too busy being perplexed by what Mensa was going on about. It was all too complex for his little bird brain, so he instead flew in a small circle, noting how problematic for him it was going to be if he didn't land sometime soon.

"Ah, I've gotten completely off topic, do excuse my incompetence." Mensa sounded rather flustered, but David quickly pushed the thought away as the voice continued. "See that rock directly below you?" David looked down, eyes coming to focus on a rather large boulder which stuck out from his surroundings like a pimple on a seemingly flawless face. "Take a rest there, you will receive the answers you seek in a few moments time, my dear."

David was quick to obey, swooping down and coming to land gently on top of the rock. He could see his surroundings from a closer view from here; it seemed like they were in the forest that he and Addelyyn had been wandering through just moments before, just... dead. Indeed, the trees were slouching and the vines were making quite a dismal effort of trying to hold onto their anchors. David looked around in sheer horror. Was this... was this... real? No, it couldn't be. That was impossible! This couldn't be the forest he had been in not too long ago! But it felt like it was. It didn't make sense! His head swiveled around frantically, and David hopped on the spot, wings fluttering manically. There was barely any grass, and David's eye came across a still figure not too far away. It looked like some sort of animal... Curious, David flew over, perching himself on a nearby branch over the figure. Was it - no.

    Oh no.

"Yes, David. That is your companion," Mensa's voice echoed around. "This place is a rather odd realm. It seems that we have been taken to the place where your deepest fears reside." There was silence for a moment, before a wolf walked out from behind a tree, looking over at the small bird sitting on the boulder. David jumped back in surprise, small figure trembling in terror as the wolf bared its teeth, before walking over to what looked to be his companion. "Worry not, it is I, David," Mensa spoke, the wolf looking up to gaze at the bird once more. "Don't mind the growling and the occasional pinning down, the wolf is... hungry. That's all." An uneasy laugh echoed in the air, and the wolf waved its tail and turning away from the body, clearly wishing for David to follow. Hesitant, but obedient, David set to the sky, careful to keep his distance from the canine predator, who kept a rather decent pace.

The sky continued to darken, and a small, numbing pain began to ebb at the back of David's head. He pushed it away every now and again, groaning a little as it returned. Why did it have to turn up now? "Mensa..." The wolf turned around, and David came to rest on a branch, groaning and swaying.

And that was when the real pain hit.

Needles were stabbing him everywhere. David screeched and fell from the branch, small figure contorting in pain. Trees around him changed in size, colours changing, body limbs melting and splitting over and over again. David's world was pain, pain and more pain. He could no longer scream, only writhe and wriggle helplessly as the hurt came over and over.

A wet nose poked him on the arm, and David groaned, rolling over and hovering his hands in front of his face. Wait... hands? He was human again?

David scurried to his feet and promptly brushed himself off, looking down at the wolf. "You better start explaining, and that better happen now." he grumbled, brushing a few more specks of dirt off his clothes. The wolf nodded, turning its head to peer over at a podium which had just materialised in front of them.

"David. Do you remember anything about your past life?"

    "Past... life?"

"The life you had before you changed."

    "There was something before?"

"There is always something before, David."

The young man was quiet for a few moments, before shaking his head. "No, I do not." he replied. "Should I?"

    "No."

The wolf turned back to David, and sat down, blinking a few times, before rising back to its paws. An odd routine, and from the soft keyboard taps David could hear in his head, it was clear that Mensa was still trying to adjust to her new form. "Many, many years ago, that very podium carried a commodity, which was valuable to both my race, and yours." Mensa spoke, the wolf's muzzle twitching, as if it itched to speak. "A book, which carried valuable knowledge, on how to save both of our races. Though, in saying that, it's not just our races that need to be saved."

"Why do our races need to be saved?"

"The Sun, David. The sun is going to kill us all."

David looked to the sky, eyes scanning the dark blanket which covered his vision of the sky. The sun was going to kill them? Why? What had they done wrong? That wasn't very nice! Sighing, David sat down on the ground, looking over at the canine, before tilting his head to the side. "I am going to assume that you wish for me and Addelyyn to go and retrieve this book, then?" David spoke. "Why us? Why humans? Paladeen didn't seem too thrilled with the choice that had been made."

"Humans owe us for their existence."

    "Explain."

The wolf growled, but made no move to attack David, instead baring its teeth and looking away. "Humans are strange creatures, too complex for their own good," Mensa growled, clearly fighting to keep her voice level. "They entrust higher beings with their care, yet they consider themselves the superior race. Despite the efforts of other races, humans wage wars on one another, toxify their earth, and pursue other creative means with their self-destruction. Humans cannot be trusted with their own survival. Greed, lies and deceit are the fortifications of human nature, and it is what will destroy them in the end."

"I do not understand the logic behind the selection," David rose to his feet, proceeding to turn away from the wolf. "If humans cannot be entrusted with the responsibility of keeping themselves alive, why does one choose two of them to seek out what will be the factor of everyone's survival?"

"Because if a human is lost, it can be easily be replaced with another. Any other questions?" David turned back, shaking his head, and Mensa sighed in relief. "Good. You will find this book, and face the guardian that keeps it away from us. He will want you to make a special sacrifice, which is why we chose two humans, and have decided to brief you separately."

    "I don't understand."

"David, you're not going to return. The guardian is going to want you to stay, in exchange for the book. The knowledge you have, and the powers you possess, you're extremely valuable."

    "He won't take Addelyyn?"

"No. You have more knowledge, and your powers are more malleable. You are more interesting, and it is meant to be that way. Addelyyn will return the book to us, and be set free, with her powers, and her old life back."

"And I will be trapped forever?"

"Yes, but for a noble cause. After all, your first instinct is to protect Addelyyn. You will sacrifice yourself to save her. If you don't we will all die. Do not tell her what I have told you, as this will disrupt the balance. You are to speak nothing about your death, and merely act as if you both expect to come out alive. Understood?"

    "Yes."

Before any more could be said, the wolf lunged at David, pushing him to the ground. And from there, the young man's world spiraled into darkness.

    - - -

"Wake up, sunshine!" an unusually peppy voice called, and David groaned, pushing himself off the cold cave floor. Eyes flickering open, David looked around, grunting a little as a stab of pain pulsed through his neck. He'd slept in a rather stupid position, hadn't he? Well, the pool of saliva near where his face had been, and the fact that he was holding himself up, due to the fact his legs were sprawled out over a boulder suggested such, and David groaned, shaking his head. Looking to his left, he noticed that Addelyyn was still asleep, and he nodded to himself. They were to find a book, leave him to die and save humanity and goodness knew what else from being consumed by the sun. It seemed perfectly logical in some cases, but even the ordeal baffled young David. Had he agreed to something like this? What was Mensa going on about, when she was talking about a 'past life'? It all seemed rather confusing, but David was quick to push the thoughts out of his head, sliding the rest of his body off the boulder and onto the ground. He then sat up, and looked over at his companion, who was still sound asleep.

"We're just waiting on Paladeen to finish briefing Addelyyn on what she needs to do, David." It was Jasebi this time, and David nodded, proceeding to stare out of the cave's entrance. "Then you're free to go."

David looked down at his hands, frowning at them as they glowed a dark orange. Not even glowing body parts could nullify the emotion he was experiencing.

    Anxiety.

totally redoing my post format x3
I think this one is doing better than the previous version c:

A D D E L Y Y N

she was calm

The long yet small body of the deer stood with its head down, browsing on the long, lush green grass that sweeper the land scape. It was a calm day, the plains occasionally moved liked waves as the grass swayed with the wind, scents flew from everywhere into her nose. Despite the comfort of scent, she turned her ears every now and then, listening out for the rustle of leaves or the growl of a predator. No noises reached her. . . yet. She felt the longing to feed leave her petite body, drifting away to the next animal, she thought she could feel it leave, but hunger was something not transferred to others, she should know that. Her head slowly raised itself, her ears sticking straight out from her head, curving on the ends to collect as much sound as possible, she was alone, only she could watch herself. Her ear flicked, something was moving around her. It's feet moving quietly, yet still rustling the undergrowth. It's broad shoulders moved the leaves, alerting her of its presence. It was trying to hard, any predator would of remained quiet and remain in one spot, she could hear it circle her, something new to this life.

And then she ran.

The deers legs moved quickly from its original position, from one calm day, it had turned to chaos. Her head could not take in the blurred sights as she ran, now was no time for scenary looking. She had no chance to see such predator that haunted her tonight, but she abided by one rule: any predator wanted you dead. She zig zagged her way between trees, she needed to leave this place and its predators behind. Her hooves dug the ground as she twisted her body around the flimsy tree, she heard it snap later, the predator was strong, and fast, she only knew of wolves that were fast, but not strong enough to trample even that tree. Her stomach turned and it felt as if her lungs have compacted, she was not tired, she was scared. She felt as if she was falling down a pit she couldn't escape, how would she escape a creature of great strength and speed. It roared closer as her organs resumed their usual functions, she was filling a bit better, are all, she knew the place, she could escape.

wait!

Did it call her to wait? How did she even know the word, it sounded so foreign, but she knew it. Her memory was confusing itself, reading through books it just didn't understand. She was confused. And then she went black. She felt her body crumble to the ground as if any supporting muscle was lost, she tried to wake up but darkness latched onto her and didn't let go, was she dying? Did her confused state stop her in her tracks, killing her when her predator attacked her? She didn't know, all she knew know was darkness. It must of been later her own that her weary eyes awoke. Two paws stood in front of her, not too close, it wasn't standing over her, yet. She was surprised, it was not chewing on her flesh and bone, plus the paws were orange and white, as if the massive wolf, if it was one, had fallen into an orange dye. Dye? She knew of such words. Her small deer form was lying on the ground with a tiger over her and cared about dye? Her train of thought moved swiftly to her unusual word of tiger. Such word was something knew to her, but at the thought the tiger crawled through her mind. It lingered and was persistent not to leave, a tiger was in her mind. She had not heard of the animal or the word, and yet it crawled through her.

your more human senses should be returning to you, Addelyyn. I'd like to say, you took a tumble

She looked at herself. She was not in her human 'form'. She suspected whoever it was returned her human senses during her fall, and it only kicked in to her brain now. She awkwardly got up from her position, controlling a deer was unusual for some used to walking on two legs, but she got used to it. Wait, I thought I was a dragon? Remember, when I blacked out before? she looked at the tiger that stood before her. It's colours were a orange with black stripes, drawing the orange out more. The sun had dimmed slowly, but she could still see the dark brown eyes that stared coldly at her, intimating was what this animal was. 'Yes, well, uhh. That's your fist question? Not even a 'who are you'?'. The sharpness in the voice was shocking.
'I know from the tone your Paladeen, although I'm still caught on your form, and mine, of course'
'We are in the world of your greatest fears. Meeting a tiger was one, so here I am. I do not know where the deer came from, from my sources you adore such animal. Petty'
'Okay then, Paladeen, what am I doing here? And where's David?'
'He's getting briefed somewhere else. Paladeen paused. Her tiger remained standing, it was still as stone in Addelyyn's eyes, except for the tail which occasionally lashed at the branches. 'You're here for a briefing too. I hate long stories, so I'm not going into it. If you want back story, ask David, Mensa usually gets descriptive with things.'

The tiger moved slowly, signalling for the deer to follow with a flick of its orange head. It did not turn to see if the deer was following, it continued, she had no option but to follow. 'There is a book that's going to save my kind, and yours. You need to go get it, go passed the guardian and bring it back to us. The world is saved, blah blah blah. We expect no casualties.'

The words slipped from the tigers mouth so easily, but hit her like a stone. It was hard to take. They did all this to her, to just throw her away. She flicked her head and snorted in protest, she wasn't happy. The tiger let out a deafening roar, echoing silently on the mountains. The deer stood still, her predator could easily kill her, maybe her last move was a stupid one. 'You've had enough time here, lets move.'

And it went black.

The deer fell, collapsing like it did before. She could feel it fall right off the edge, slipping out of the grasp of Paladeen's falling tiger form. Nothing could save her, nothing. Would she make it? She didn't know. She did. The sight of inside a cave was comforting, but she felt a tugging pain in her chest. It grew, intensifying and spreading around her. It engulfed her, all she could do was scream. She shrieked as her hand felt the rigid edge of the broken rib, all of them, broken. She rolled over but it intensified, she could no longer scream. The rib had nearly punctured her lung, an end to her living. But then she was gone.

She did not know how long she was gone for, but she was awake. Her hand wrapped around chest, but nothing seemed broken. She rolled onto her back, only to find Paladeen staring down at her, the piercing eyes of the tiger showed on the being above her, she was intimidating as well. 'You'll be fine, I thought the result of the fall would not pass onto this realm, but I fixed it.' She paused, removing herself from above Addy, standing less than a few metres now. 'You better head out, more time you spend here less time the world itself has.' Addy picked herself up, she was human, her hands were in her sight. But the more she looked around, the more something concerned her.

David? Where are you?

DAVID

It seemed almost instinctive for David to curl up in a ball, and look around. It had been quite some time since he had seen Addelyyn, and Mensa had mentioned that she was being briefed separately... That made sense. But what didn't make sense was the sacrifice he was going to need to make. What extra knowledge did he have, that his companion did not? Was it locked away, in a small part of his mind, where he wouldn't be able to access until the right time? David groaned and closed his eyes, wriggling his toes and yawning. A feeling of exhaustion was beginning to settle, and it was bothersome. He hadn't done all that much... Had he? Well, he had wandered through a forest, and spent time flying around as a bird; if that didn't count, he'd done practically nothing. David yawned again. But would they have enough time to rest, or would they have to spend all of their time wandering, to find that book that was ever so dear to the superior race? Humans were disposable, they had said. So would it matter if the two of them collapsed from exhaustion out there somewhere? Was their health really that important?

"David, are you hungry?" Mensa's voice echoed around the cave, and David tilted his head to the side. Was the conversation drying up to the extent that Mensa was offering conversation regarding his well being? Though, it did answer his previous question, their health was of some importance, to an extent. "Humans may be considered disposable, David. But, one must realise that making you the way you are was indeed rather costly. Keeping you in fit condition is of importance to us. It was difficult enough to convince our boss to let you go; if we were to let you two wither away... We would be in some deep strife." Was she going through his head? The small chuckled confirmed his thought, and David flinched a little, looking down at his feet, which he promptly noticed were lacking shoes. Hadn't he been wearing shoes before? Before he could even consider the whereabouts of his shoes, David's stomach snarled, and he laughed in sheer discomfort.

"I believe that is confirmation for you, Mensa. My body does require some nourishment," David laughed, shaking his head. He looked to his left, where Addelyyn was still asleep -- wait. Where had she gone? "Addy? ADDY!?"

    "David..."

"WHERE IS SHE? WHERE'S ADDY?" David yelled, scrambling to his feet and looking around frantically. But... but she'd been there a few moments before, sound asleep! Where... where could she have gone? "WHERE DID YOU TAKE HER?"

"David please..." But Mensa's please were in vain, for David turned on his heel, and vanished down one of the many tunnels of the cave, allowing the darkness to embrace him in her cold, and dark abyss.

    - - -

He had to find her. He had to find her. He. Had. To. Find. Her.

The thoughts played over and over in his head, David stumbling blindly through the cave, bare feet slapping against the damp and slippery floor. He would slip here and there, yelping and flailing about before managing to grab a hold of some gap in the wall before he collapsed to the ground. It was the same repetitive process, over and over again, but so where the thoughts. He had to find her. He had to find her. He. Had. To. Find. Her. They wouldn't stop. Oh no, they weren't going to stop. Not until he found her, and he was sure that she was safe.

    "Oh, you silly, silly boy..."

    "ADDY?"

"You're not going to find her here, silly. Not without my help."

    "Who are you?"

There was a soft laugh, but from that, it was unmistakable; the venom that was laced through it echoed in David's ears. "A friend." the voiced replied. It was a male, or at least, it sounded pretty masculine to him, but one could never be so sure. "And you need my help."

"No I don't." David snapped. "I'll just turn around and go back the way--"

David turned, but the tunnel was gone.

    "...I came from."

They had to be kidding. First, he was flying around as a bird, talking to some weird voices in his head and some wolf, and now, here he was, standing around in the dark, talking to some other voice in his head, who was adamant that David needed their help? Now, this was just getting simply ridiculous. See, if it had been anyone else, they would have thought that they had gone insane! Or perhaps, he had gone insane. This was all a fragment of his imagination. Perhaps he'd had one too many drinks the night before, out with friends. For some reason, this thought amused him, and David let out a sharp, short lived laugh, before looking down at his hands. Oh, of course! He could make them glow, and then he would be able to see where he was going. "Sorry, voicey voice, but it seems this charade is over. Got places to go, pal." David spoke, his tone taking on a rather roguish demeanor. Oh, he liked this tone. It was... classy. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a lady to find."

"You're going to regret this decision, you know." came the reply. Their tone had darkened considerably. "You see, one day, we're going to look back on this, and I'm going to laugh."

    "Oh?"

"I'm stronger than all of them. Mensa, Paladeen. My abilities knock theirs out of the water."

    "I doubt that considerably."

"You want me to prove it to you?"

"No, I want to find Addy. Take me to Addy, then we'll talk."

    "I'm afraid I can't do that."

"Well then, I'm afraid I'm not interested in the services you have to provide. I need to find my companion, and standing around talking to some fool in my head is not doing that. Now if you'll excuse me." Looking down at his hands, David's lips hinted at a smile as they began to glow a bright white, allowing him to see further down into the tunnel. Taking a step forward, the young man looked around, orbs observing what he could see. It wasn't much, just mainly rock, and the occasional dribble of water sliding down the cave wall here and there, but what was he to expect? It was a cave, for goodness sake! David snorted at the thought, which soon turned to a cough, and as David went to cover his mouth (spreading germs was not a good idea), warm, sticky liquid dripped from his hands. Blood..?

"Stage four stomach cancer," the voice chimed. "You willing to talk yet?"

"No." David growled, going for another round of coughing, and using his glowing appendages to navigate his way down the nearest tunnel.

"Hmm... How about if I make you paralyzed from the hips down?"

Before he could even respond, David collapsed to the ground with a thud. His legs. He couldn't feel his legs! "NO!" he snarled, desperately dragging himself along the ground. He had to find Addy first. He started to cough again, blood spattering on the ground as he clawed his way across the cave floor. He didn't have time to be negotiating with voices in his head. The fate of the world depended on him and Addy completing the task at hand! "Just... Just leave me alone!"

"Oh, but I'm having far too much fun now, Davie! How about no lungs."

Opening his mouth to speak again, David was cut off. He couldn't breathe. He couldn't breathe! He was going to die! Grabbing his throat with eyes wide, David heard a loud snicker. "Willing to co-operate now, David?" the voice sneered, but then a loud gasp took David by surprise, as he heard a loud slam. What... what was going on?

"Put David back to the way he was now, or suffer the consequences."

    "But I... I..."

    "NOW."

He could feel himself slipping away, but then, he took in a huge breath. He... he could breathe! Looking down at his hands, and the ground, his eyes widened. The blood was gone, too. Did that mean... Looking back, David wriggled his toes, and sighed with relief. Good, that meant he would be able to walk again, too. Slowly, David wobbled to his feet, peering down the tunnel once more. Oh... That was odd. It had changed. "Turn left, then turn right at the first intersection. You'll find Addy there." the other voice wheezed, coughing awkwardly. "Now go, I'm going to get in trouble for what I've just done, but you're welcome." Giving a small nod, David obeyed, hurrying down the tunnel. But one thing confused him. Where were all these voices coming from? Why did they want to talk to him so much? Was he popular, or something? No, that was a silly thought.

Turning the corner, the first thing he heard was the "David? Where are you?".

"Addelyyn!" he called out, looking around. "I'm here." He walked a little further, before almost bumping into his friend. Sighing with relief, he pushed away the urge to pull Addelyyn into a hug, as he looked at her, then down at his feet.

    "Come on, let's go."
