I don't use legendaries, I personaly don't think they're good at all. Some, like mew and others you can get at low levels can be trained to be good, but I think ones that you catch at level 70 arn't very good because you don't really have much of an oppritunity to train them and change their movesets. I only catch legendaries just so I can say I have them xD. Plus I feel defeting/capturing all the legendaries in the game is nesscery for the game to be complete.
Anyways, I don't even like most legandaries. I hate lugia (sorry!), thats why I got Heart Gold, even though I don't like Ho-oh that much either xD

It's not so much a problem of catching them at a young age ^_^" A caught/trained pokemon is stronger than one in than one in the wild at the same level because of this thing called effort values. It's a hidden experience that effects the stats, depending on what you fight. For instance, if you take your level 70 dialga and go fight a ton of lvl3 geodude, you'll notice when he finally levels up, his defense stat increased by like...30 or something lol (I'm probably exaggerating, but it'll be a LOT). That's the effort values at work.
A level 100 that hasn't been EV trained is next to useless. That's what bugs me about events that are 100 when you get them. You can use vitamins to partially ev train them (that's how the vitamins work, they give 10 EVs in their respective stat, while the stat lowering berries that increase tameness do the opposite), but you can only give up to 10 vitamins in any particular stat.
The max for any stat is 255 evs (4=1 stat point) and 520 or so is the max evs a pokemon can have total.
I gotta stop going on these tangents, lol. xD Sorry guys, as I said, I got really into this for a while.
