I think that most nouns that end in "us" change to an i in plural. Like octopi, cacti, and platypi. It probably is right, but that doesn't stop it from sounding funny.

And according to Webster's Dictionary, the plural for platypus is platypuses or platypi. Crazy little creature.

OH! I just had an idea!
What if it wasn't actually an egg! What if the white on the egg really was the white film on the new born horse. And the bird prints were just to throw us off. and the shape of the 'egg' was the back of the new-born.
