“Oh…,” she said. Aine tried to hide her anxiety. She looked down at the boy, then grabbed the knob of the door, turned it, and pushed it open. Inside it was more room-like then cavern-like; woodstoves and cooking pots were lined in rows, with tables piled with raw meat, vegetables, even some fruit, while other tables had sacks full of bread and pastries. A column had been dug out of one part of the ceiling, like a chimney, to let out all the smoke and steam. Standing over one boiling pot was an old, bald, hunch-backed man, looking as burnt as the cooking pot he was stirring. Aine heard the door close behind her, and gulped. Slowly, on shuffling feet, she made her way over to the old man at the pot. She stood right next to him for a while, expecting him to notice her, but he didn’t. “Excuse me…?” Aine asked quietly. Still the old man did not notice. “Excuse me?” Aine said louder. No response. Aine got a bit flustered. “EXCUSE ME?” she nearly shouted, and the old man turned to her with beady black eyes. “What, whadaya want?” Aine swallowed again. “I’ve… come to help steal for the kitchens…” Aine mumbled, feeling altogether awkward. “Ah…,” the old man said, eyeing her probingly. “Come to help stock Cookie’s kitchen then have you?” Cookie grunted and then turned back to his pot. “What’s yer name, girl?” Aine stared at her feet. “Aine,” she said quietly. “What was that?” Cookie asked, leaning an ear in. “Aine,” she said louder. “Aine Ovrion.” Cookie grunted again. “Well you just be sure to sign your name up there on that board, and sign every time you bring in some bounty, you here?” Aine hurried over to the clipboard and grabbed up the bit of chalk next to it, freezing. She didn’t know how to write or read. She couldn’t write her name. She looked back at Cookie, and then signed the board with a small drawing of a knife. She ran over to the door, turning the knob. “Oh, and girl,” Cookie said, turning to her and giving her a small, mischievous wink. “Welcome to the Tombs.” Aine nodded, and then left.
{Oh my gosh, that was WAY to long. O_O Lol, no worries Yuki, I figured something held you up. My parents do the same thing to me all the time.}
