Brairpaw
She-cat | 10 Moons | WindClan Apprentice
"Alright." She nodded and took a few steps towards Sedgecreek again. She focused on his shoulder again, thinking about where she was going to pounce. Her cream, brown, and white tabby pelt was ruffled as she crouched and leapt at her mentor. Brairpaw had aimed for his lower back when she had first crouched down before the leaf fell off of her head, and she kept the same target place this time as well.

Sedgecreek watched his apprentice carefully and then let himself roll with her attack. He allowed his body to skid limply through the fallen leaves and then lifted his head, giving it a small shake. "Well done," he said. "In a real battle, your opponent would have been disoriented and you would have the advantage to switch from the defensive to the offensive." Sedgecreek sits up, brushing off strewn leaves from his shoulder. He tipped his head to the side slightly. "Does that make sense?"

"Sort of." Brairpaw cocked her head to the left and looked at the earth beneath her paws as she thought. "So, if I were to do the same thing I did go you in a real battle, but not wait as long, what should I do after they stumble or fall?" She twitched her ear and looked back at her mentor as she spoke.

Her mind raced to think of where a creature's weakest point would be, or where she should aim for when she fights. "The stomach?" Though her answer was simply a guess, it was better than saying something that she knew wouldn't be right. "The neck? Or the face?" Brairpaw spoke a few of her guesses, her eyes narrowing in thought. Hopefully one of the places she guessed would be correct, or, even better, all of those places would be correct.

Sedgecreek nodded. "Correct," he said, unsheathing his claws; they glinted menacingly in the sunlight. "A cat's underbelly is the softest tissue on the body. One slice to the stomach," he gestured with his reinforced paws with a slicing motion across his own belly. "could kill you. Now, the warrior code states that we should never kill to win a battle, but you can definitely wound a cat enough to overcome your opponent." He brought his paw up to Briarpaw's neck. "The same goes with your throat and neck. The great warriors of LionClan were lucky. They had a thick mane of hair to protect themselves. For us, it's important to always ward off unwanted teeth and claws from the vital tissues of our throat and neck. As for the face," he blinked slowly, making sure his apprentice was still following him. "It's rare that a cat will die from a wound to the face, unless due to infection or a severe head injury, but you can certainly blind a cat by aiming for their eyes." he explained.

Brairpaw
She-cat | 10 Moons | WindClan Apprentice
Brairpaw stared wide-eyed up at her mentor, listening to him explain how much damage could be done to a cats underbelly if it were hit just right with sharp claws. She quickly made a metal note to herself to do her best to not let an opponent get at her stomach during a fight. She watched Sedgecreek's paw as he raised it to her neck and explained about the neck and throat when she thought up a question. Once he was done speaking, she opened her mouth to speak, "What if your opponent is much bigger than you are?" She wasn't a very big cat, if fact Brairpaw was a bit small for being ten moons old. Most bigger cats could use their size as an advantage when fighting, but what were smaller cats supposed to do? She knew that WindClan cats were the fastest of all the Clans, so she at least had speed on her side.

Sedgecreek smiled down at his apprentice, reassuringly. "No worries, Briarpaw. I'm not a very big cat myself. WindClan cats are known for their speed and agility. Therefore, you'll learn that most other cats, especially RiverClan cats, are clumsy and uncoordinated. You'll find that you will be much more precise, swift, and quick-witted than your opponent. While your foe is still trying to muster up the strength and speed to counter your attack, you'll already be retaliating by dodging their blow and slipping beneath their legs. Small also means we fit in places other cats don't." He flashed his apprentice a wink.
