I've always loved dragons. Or any species that looks or is related to dragons. I was on an adventure through the woods behind my cabin. A bow along with a few arrows were strapped to my back and I was following the narrow deer trail. I wasn't one to hunt for pleasure. This was simply for food. There had been rumors of sightings of dragons in the village. The first response was to hunt them. Which I, of course, quickly disapproved of. Who would dare to destory such majestic creatures? Anyway, as I was hunting for the deer, I stumbled across a stone. It was a rather unusal stone.. The colors were vivid and it was very soft to the touch. Tapping gently on it I quickly found that it wasn't a stone after all, but an egg! My first reaction was to look around cautiously. For where there is an egg... There is surely to be a mother nearby. A mother that would surely come out to protect her precious egg from any possible harm. After a moment of silence I gently picked up the egg and inspected it. Out in the path like this the egg would surely be crushed by anyone who wasn't careful enough. So I had to make a split descision.

I took it.

At first I was planning to simply move the egg to a safer spot. But with all the creatures that lived in the forest... It wouldn't have a chance if its parents failed to find it again. So now during the current day it sits comfortablely in a box like nest filled with soft blankets. What will it hatch into? Not even I know yet.

My newest entry:

When the egg had first hatched I had been astonished when I found a pair of blue glowing eyes staring up at me. I helped the little creature out of its shell when he started to wiggle about. Of course after a few days of having the little hatchling scurrying about in my cabin I knew at once I needed a name for him. After debating for awhile I finally gave him the name of Zyalon. He seemed to like the name since it only took him a day or so to figure that was his title. The sounds he created were quite interesting and cute, sometimes reminding me of a dog when he whimpered for something to eat. I fed him to the best of my ability. What would a dragon like to eat? Meat perhaps? I found out that was so after I accidently left out the hare I hunted down on the counter. The little beast also seemed to enjoy the taste of milk so I continue to give him these two things for him to eat.

This morning, after two weeks or so, I woke up to a shock. Zyalon was standing next to my bed as he usually did when we went to sleep, but now he was large enough to stand well over the side of the bed and he was looking down at me curiously when I blinked up at him. "How did you grow so fast, Zyalon?" Zyalon titled his head at me and it almost looked like he was smiling, but it is hard to tell if a Critinus is smiling at you. Due to that "serious" look they tend to have in their eyes. But I could see amusement--and a bit of pride--being held in those glowing orbs. I smiled back at him and got up and out of bed. "Well, since you look all smug, why don't you come out and hunt with me?" I strapped my bow on when I asked him this. Zyalon stood up and brushed against me with a low rumble in his throat, as if he was saying "don't have to ask me twice". And we headed out together towards the woods.

It turned out that he was definitely a good hunting partner.
