Milky way kits have bright, colorful tails with many different colors.
Their tails are rarely pure black or pure white. Their orb color matches
the colors of their tails and never mismatches, as a part of their tails
is rumored to be enclosed in the orb. They are very protective of this orb
and breaking or stealing one is considered treachery. Those who steal or
break orbs and generally shunned by their pack and banished. Orbs that
are broken can never be repaired; simply leaking colorful dust out of
the damaged area.
Their diet usually consists of fruits and meat, though mainly fruit
because their bright tails tend to give them away when they try to
hunt. Females are the main hunters and gatherers of the pack,
but a weak male or young kit may join them.
Despite their mischievous nature, they are faithful creatures
and when they find a mate they stick with them for life.
Their love for their mates is endless, just like the universe is
endless. They can sometimes have relationship problems,
but this is very rare.

The sun had just set over another exhausting day of work. I sat by my window watching the last golden drops of sun disappear into the horizon before the shining moon and glittering stars came out. Sometimes I wished I could fly away, away to another world but where I'd still see the same stars. I sighed, that would never happen. I had just sat down to think of all the work I had to do when suddenly I had the urge to look out my window. Then, I saw it! I brilliant shooting star float across the eastern sky! I closed by eyes and made a wish, thinking it was childish, but behold! The shooting star wasn't going across the sky! It was heading towards earth! I gasped, could this really be happening! I quickly ran outside slamming the door behind me. The star hit the earth at massive speed and I saw a flash of light and quietly headed toward the collision. The night was cold and I shivered, but not with fear, with excitement! Maybe I had found something new! Something exotic! I smiled thinking of my name going down in history. I ran and ran until finally, I reached the spot.
I looked down into the smoking crater and to my surprise something blinked back at me. Glowing eyes, full of fear and anticipation, but also mystery. The sky rumbled and flashed and suddenly out of nowhere it started drizzling. Then the drizzle turned to full downpour. I couldn't leave this poor creature out here in the storm. I quickly rushed into the crater and snatched the poor shivering thing. Then gasped, It's tail was a swirling galaxy! I stood their mesmerized by the beautiful sight before me! The galaxy seemed to go on and on never stopping never starting. I swallowed and slowly took my eyes off of the tail. Then I noticed there were 2 and sighed, how could I carry two? I picked up the first one but it struggled when I started to leave the other behind. It's galaxy tail was soft and silky, not at all what I expected it to feel like. I tried to assure the other one that I was coming back but they didn't understand, grumbling I knew I was giving in. Then I grabbed the other one, wiped my soaking bangs from my face, and started the trek back to my house, not noticing the slight glow their tails left behind.
Inside I changed into a new pair of clothes and quickly went to examine the mysterious creatures that the stars had brought me. They had long flowing tails filled with galaxies and were a sort of fox-like animal. They had an orb tied around their necks but when I tried to take it off they gave me a look that made me back down. The orb matched their tail color(s) and I smiled. This was the most amazing that had ever happened to me!!!!! The first animal I had fetched was a male. He was striped like a tiger but I knew he was much more than that. The other was a female, I couldn't tell their relationship however. Could she be his mother? Wife? Sister? 2nd cousin? SO many possibilities! She was striped like a tiger as well but her pelt was orange with brown stripes while his pelt was white with black stripes and a few gray spots mixed in. The best part was the tail. The male's tail was green that faded to orange that faded to yellow. The female's tail was just brown, but a majestic brown, not a dull brown but a rich chocolate color. They were beautiful! They looked at me with their bright, intelligent eyes and I knew there was no way they landed on earth by mistake. They were smarter than they let on.
"I- I'm Casnovia." I stuttered unsure if they could or would understand me. They smiled as if they knew something I didn't, but didn't say anything. Frowning I tried to communicate with them, trying sentences words or just sounds, but they said nothing. They merely shook their heads once or twice, blinked, or smiled. Getting a teensy bit frustrated I sat down. Well, I don't really understand you but you must be hungry." So I carried them to the kitchen. They were surprisingly light like a feather. I set them on the counter top and opened a cabinet. I took out a cereal box and poured some in a bowl, setting it in front of them. They wrinkled their nose and backed away from the cereal. "Ummm ok... Maybe you want some meat?" I went to the fridge and pulled out some bacon. Turning on the stove and cooking it, I then set another plate in front of them. They backed away again. Sighing I took the bacon and ate it. No use in wasting perfectly good bacon. "C'mon guys, you have to like something!" Then a light bulb went off in my head. I opened the fridge door yet again and pulled out some grapes. Setting yet ANOTHER plate in front of them they sniffed and eagerly gulped the small fruit down. I laughed, then added more grapes. Soon all the grapes were gone. "You guys can stay, but I have to hide you. Not many other people would react as nice to you as I did. I just hope nobody else saw the shooting star." Then as if on cue I heard a knock on my door.
Quickly grabbing the two animals I set them on some blankets in a closet before opening the door. Their was a man about late 20's standing on my porch in a suit and tie. He took out his wallet and showed me a ID, it read "Special Agent, Gavin Porter." "Hello, sorry to bother you in the middle of the night ma'am but I'm here to ask about a special sighting a few miles away from your house. A meteor to be exact."I was shocked, but knew I had to hide it. "Welcome, I'm Casnovia Burke. I heard and saw nothing. I was at my computer doing some work when you showed up." I bit my tongue, hating to lie to a special agent, but knew I had to. Who knows what they would do if they found out about the fox-like animals with glowing tails? They would probably experiment and do all sorts of tests on them! I couldn't let that happen! He frowned, not totally convinced. "Well a meteor sighting has been reported and I just wanted to warn you not to go near. If you see anything unusual please contact me." He held out a business card which had his number and name on it. "Thanks. Nice talking to you."
He shook my hand and I closed the door, watching from the window to make sure he was gone before opening the closet, hiding my new friends. I can't keep you here. I have to find a place for you. The government has all rights to search my house and if they find you, well..." I shivered from fear. I couldn't do anything till the sun came up, though. Sleep well guys." I whispered before silently shutting the closet door. I sat on my bed hugging my knees to my chest. I had just made some new friends when they had to leave. Then I felt something in my pocket and took it out. It was Gavin Porter's business card. I crumpled it up in one hand and threw it in the trash can.
The next morning I woke early and quickly dressed. Thank goodness it was Saturday. I ran to the closet to look for the fox-like animals which I had decided to name Milky Way Kits. I opened the door with such force that one of the hinges broke on the door. Growling, I inspected the door closely. Nothing. Whatever. I eagerly looked inside to find the Kits curled up sleeping, even after all the noise I had made. Smiling like an idiot I ran to the fridge, almost slipping on the tile, and brought back some sliced apples. Gently touching their fur I woke them. They stretched and yawned, then blinked at me to say What's Up? I gently set some apples in front of them and watched them eat. They quickly gobbled the apples up and my smile faded as I realized they couldn't stay. Regrettably, I said, "You can't stay here. I need to get you to a place where you can live without the government chasing you."
I sighed and ran to the garage picking up a plastic pet carrier, property of my late great dane, Charlie. Will they both fit? I wondered but found out that they fit perfectly and snug. Adding a few blankets I set hem in and carefully closed the door. ”I know the perfect place for you.” I whispered. Dragging the crate towards my S.U.V, I set it down and knew I had a long journey ahead of me.
3 Days Later
Yellowstone National Park. I had finally arrived. I had made so many calls and arrangements I could hardly believe I'd made it. I hopped out of the car, and took a deep breath of fresh air. Then I heard foot-steps behind me. I whirled around and came face to face with... Gavin Porter. He held up his badge. "I know you found something." he said. "And I know it's in the car so give it to me and I won't press charges." I felt out-raged. I knew I had to get the Kits out of the car so I slowly made my way to the back. He smiled. "Yes, take them out and give them to me." I knew I could do this. I took a deep breath and in one swift motion opened the car door, took out the cage, and opened the door. "GO RUN!" I yelled at them. Thankfully they understood and ran into the underbrush of the giant National Park. Gavin Porter ran over to me and grabbed my hands. I tried pushing him but he was strong. "You're under arrest." he snarled in my ear. I knew I was in trouble but was glad I had helped them escape. In a National Park they couldn't hurt them. "Goodbye." I whispered. A few days later a mysterious meteor shower was reported in Yellowstone and I knew their friends had joined them.
