{Kelly}
Kelly noticed the pieces were beginning to fade from the blue of the water to the rainbow of color that was the coral of the reef, starting to see the fish that dotted the scene. He began to match colors as they appeared, and he realized that they were already two-thirds of the way done, disappointed about not having more time on the puzzle. He started to absentmindedly put together the huge purple octopus, going down one of it's suction-cupped legs.

Starfish
Starfish quickly blocked in a school of tiny yellow fish, then moved on to a large red fish among several colorful branches of color. The scene reminded her of when she used to go swimming in the ocean, looking for shells. She almost felt like the pieces would turn to cool blue seawater in her paws. The puzzle was now more than halfway completed.

{Kelly}
As they began working closer together, Starfish and Kelly begin to work in from separate ends of the last octopus leg, reminded of the spaghetti scene from one of his favorite movies as a child; Lady and The Tramp. His cheeks were stained red with blood as the thought came to mind; he quickly dismissed it, suddenly realizing how close they were quickly becoming.

Starfish
Starfish looked up, intent on finishing the puzzle, and found her own snout almost touching Kelly's. Surprised, she almost reeled back, then caught herself, not wanting to destroy the puzzle that was so close to being done. Looking down, she saw that both her and Kelly's paws were on the final puzzle piece. She looked back up, suddenly breathless, her mind telling her to duck away, but somehow her body was frozen in place.

As they came to the same place, they found the piece at the same time. They both picked it up, popping it into place together. Their noses were nearly touching, and to keep his eyes averted, Kelly took a quick scan over the puzzle, finding one piece missing. He looked around, and found it peeking out from under the box. He took it in his hands, examining the piece and the place it belonged. "I'm not sure why, but this piece is always the last when I put together this puzzle. Like it's the one that's perfect, that ties the whole puzzle togeth..." Kelly cut himself off, giving the piece another look. The piece was beautiful coral colors, and on it's center, a gorgeous, shining pink starfish. He popped it into place slowly, and looked up at Starfish, their eyes meeting with electricity in between. He leaned in ever so closely, and the fur on their noses almost touched. He closed his eyes and leaned in, their lips meeting with such perfect harmony that he would have never had to live any longer for how completed he felt just then. The only reason he was here was to make her happy, she was perfect; exactly who he was meant for.

In shock, Starfish barely had time to consider the fact that their lips had met before she was kissing him back, tasting the faint flavor of strawberry and cool whip as her heart skipped into doubly fast beats. One second, she had been listening intently to him speak, her eyes moving downward in curiosity as she caught a glimpse of the last piece in the puzzle, and then there was...this. It was perfection, like the feeling of the waves crashing down over her head as a child, the same feeling of overwhelming joy and refreshment at once. His fur smelled of the clean ocean, like he was her beloved beach as the perfect bean, come into her shrunken world because she couldn't come out. She didn't want the moment to end, so she held onto the kiss, waiting for Kelly to end it first and then wondering whether she should and then deciding to push all the thoughts out of her head, deciding just to enjoy him while it lasted.

Kelly smelled a hint of strawberry perfume atop our strawberry breakfast, wafting through the air in a truly delectable aroma. He felt her lips flutter anxiously against his, but then more passion came through. It was like the lone survivor spotting land after many months, the last two of a species meeting, a man finding a real oasis in the desert, a cub seeing the eyes of its mother for the first time. Merriment, relief, wonderment, hope, love. Kelly dreaded the moment the kiss ended, wanting to drag it out as long as he could.

Finally, Starfish pulled away, gasping for air, her heart beating so hard that it hurt her throat. Her peach-pink eyes grew wide as her head slowly cleared of the rosy clouds that had fogged it during the moment of perfection. She took another breath and stared at Kelly, unsure of what to do. Would he be mad? Although she was anxious, the fear couldn't completely obscure the floating happiness inside of her chest, fluttering around like a thousand summer butterflies, newly hatched from their cocoons. Whatever happened now, she had kissed Kelly. She felt like she could simply live on the memory for the rest of her life.

Starfish pulled away, and a small smile cracked the corner of Kelly's mouth. He was wondering how long she would last, with all the scuba training he'd been doing, he could have held his breath for several minutes. He didn't want it to stop, but he couldn't help but to be humored when the perfect moment ended, Star's breathless and wide-eyed face simply stole his attention; like it wouldn't already before when she was just being herself. The way her eyes could be read was incredible, although he couldn't see what that darkness was in the deepest corner. He just wished he could bring it to the light and fix it, make everything better for his dream girl. All he wanted was her happiness, and he could have just ruined it forever.

"Sorry...?" whispered Starfish, not sure what else to say. Her voice sounded strange, distant, as if she was hearing herself speak on an old record, perhaps. She searched his face for any hint of anger, or maybe-- sadness? Although the curtains were drawn, the sun filtered through the material, framing his face and making it appear even more golden. She hoped her face wasn't too awe-struck, and tried to position her features into a calmer sort of expression, drawing her snout down slightly. As always happened when she was nervous, her tail curved around and she began fingering her pink star charm, although she kept her eyes fixed on Kelly.
