This didn't happen to me last cross-country season, but I am slightly worried that it might in the future, so I'd like to ask- what do you do when your shoe becomes untied during a race? Is it better to risk and keep running, hoping that you won't trip, or stop and hopefully be able to tie it quickly?

I never had that problem. Though when it had happened to other students on my team, they would usually fling their shoe off and continue without it, or just leave it untied as they ran.

The school year hasn't even begun for us yet, but we're having our first race tomorrow, which is only 1.65 miles. However, it's really hot where I am, over 10 degrees above our "75 degrees all year" temperature, and the race will be inland, so I'm just hoping it'll cool down tomorrow. Which it doesn't look like it will- seems that it'll be 93 degrees at the time we run. Ugh. It's going to be like Mt. Carmel last year. *freezes a bunch of ice for the race*

If your bib falls off keep going but run with it in your hand, because most races use the info on your bib to get your results. Most of the bibs I have gotten are waterproof, so you probably don't need to worry about it :3.
