Cassidy Rae McCormick - 17 years - Female - Commoner - Marketplace
Cassidy bid the man adieu, wanting to leave him in peace as he enjoyed his meal. She meandered her way back to her food cart, where she caught Storm biting into one of the less-red apples. At least the mare hadn't taken one of the good ones. She shook her head and smiled as she approached, reaching out a hand and rubbing the big grey's forelock and head. What? I was hungry! Storm retorted, even though Cassidy hadn't said anything. Storm, it's ok! I'm about ready to pack up, let's get you hooked up, shall we? The mare nodded her consent and walked over to the cart, where the farmgirl hitched her to the wagon and signaled her to begin plodding home.
As Cassidy walked beside her down the cobblestone roads, she counted the coins in her pocket. It totaled a fair sum, and she was pleased. Nothing wonderful, but enough to put food on the table for at least 2 evenings for her small family. It was a long walk back to the house, not including her dirt driveway, and eventually Storm offered to let her ride the rest of the way. Cassidy thanked her and slid onto the mare's broad back, loving the feeling of riding even if it was slow and without saddle. When unhitching, unloading, and putting away Storm were all over and she headed into the house, she got the surprise she'd been waiting so long for. Her mother approached her with a large grin and a lightly crinkled letter with the royal seal. "Honey," she said gently, "Your dad and I talked it over, and we want you to go to the ball."
Cassidy couldn't hid her excitement, and she hugged each parent with the force of a bull elephant. After a million thank you's and screeches of delight, she ran into her room and pulled out the purple dress she'd bought last year, along with the matching mask. Each were a deep purple, and both had white lace trim; the dress about the bottom and bodice, stopping at the sleeveless A-line cutoff. She held it up to her chest above her plaid shirt and jeans and twirled once; even farm girls could try and feel pretty. She slipped her outfit into a bag along with extra, normal clothes and a few necessities like a hair brush and ran back outside to the barn, where Storm was sipping on water. The mare looked up and ,seeing the bag, already knew what was going to happen. Cassidy quickly saddled up the mare, slipped on a bridle, and swung up into the saddle, setting off at a canter towards the palace, feeling the wind in her hair and the freedom and joy in her heart.
