Foxerfly #25

Postby Kodabomb » Sat Aug 17, 2013 4:30 pm

What is a Foxerfly?
A Foxerfly is a fox-like creature that is rather small. They are about the size of the average house cat. Their very unique feature is the pair of wings on their back that allows them to fly unlike any other four-legged being. There are three different types of wings of a Foxerfly that resemble wings of insects.
Butterfly
Dragonfly and
Bee
Occassionally their wings will be different to others, but it is rare in the average Foxerfly. Their diet consists of everything a normal fox would eat; berries, eggs, small rodents, fruit, and they may chew on various crops. They are shy and extremely secretive among creatures of different kinds, so they are not seen often.
Be nice to your Foxerfly; they will only choose the one right for them.

This Foxerfly is inspired by snow and blizzards. The charm was supposed to be a snowflake...

Short story (max 500 words):

It was the middle of winter, a blizzard. We were relocating. Our old home had a small canopy over it for when it rained. Early in the night it collapsed. I don't remember having it, but my mother says that my coat was once a very pale shade of blue. I was so young... my legs were short. I was small for my age, but the adults didn't carry me like the other kits. The snow blew in my eyes, sending stinging cold pains. I let out a high pitched cry as my paws sank into the icy snow. I sank down at least a foot under the surface. I couldn't breath. I don't remember exactly when I passed out. I woke up in the morning to my mother's muzzle close to my face, frantically licking my fur. I groaned. I struggled and sat up. I looked down at my pelt. White.... there was white swirled through my fur. Around my paws floated snowflakes and ice crystals. I set a paw down and tiny flakes of frost spread across the bare ground they dug me out from.
"Tempest...." My mother whispered. "You've... changed."

I must say, I've always wanted a Foxerfly, they're just so gorgeous! Plus, I've sort of idolized/stalked/obsessed over you for ages. This Foxerfly will be my first, but not the first I've tried for (I tried for Foxerfly #6 a while back) but I'm hoping for her to be my first!

Foxerfly Name:
I've decided to call her Eria, which is Welsh for snow. She's absolutely beautiful, and I adore what you've done with her design.

Gender:

She's *hopefully* going to be my little girl.

Image
Story:
{The Blizzard.
{This will all be in Eria's point of view}
I remember it like it was yesterday, when I found it.
{Many years ago..}
The blizzard whipped around me like an unwelcome, cold blanket, yet I ran as fast as I could to keep up with the other Foxerflies in my pack. I had no talent. I hadn't discovered it yet, but none of the other Foxerflies in my pack treated me any differently. ''Are you keeping up, little Eria?'' My father asked, looking at me warmly and affectionately. My brother was up at the front, chatting enthusiastically to the Pack Leader's mate about his new talent, which had to do with the stars and such. She nodded every so often, half-listening as she trotted through the snow. ''I just wish this darn snow would stop!'' I growled under my breath. It didn't. Yet something of a warm spark whirred up in my chest, and suddenly I knew. It was my destiny. My paws glowed brighter than before, and I said gently to the snow, ''Be still.'' I said, my voice sounding.. Powerful. Knowingly. That was my talent, I could tell. The snowflakes became gentle, and the snow stopped flurrying. A snowflake landed on the tip of my snout. That snowflake became the symbol of my talent.
{Present Day}
It was snowing gently. Snowflakes landed on the branches of the bare trees, which stuck out like arms. I smiled to myself as the winter sunlight shone off the sun. I sat comfortably so my tail flicked in front of my paws, and I looked at my charm happily and pleased. Beaming to myself, I whispered, ''I love my talent.''

Her current home looks like this. She changes homes alot, though, as she likes to remain in the cold.

This is my first piece of art for her. I will be drawing another piece, but on paper (if that's okay with you, that is..)

Thank you for reading along.
I'm hoping to win her desperately! <3

I keep telling myself no more characters, and yet I keep getting more... I'm trying out for this girly.

I stood, stock still, and staring. I was still a kit, living with my mother in her den on the side of the mountain, and it was my first snowfall. Something seemed to pull me out into that vast expanse of everything, the world turned white by the shimmering, twisting, falling flakes. I took a shaky step forward, before turning my head back and tilting it up to lock my ice-blue orbs onto my mother’s steady gaze. Taking a deep breath, I lifted another paw, bringing it out and onto the powdery alabaster. I almost leap backwards. It’s cold! Colder than the nights when I was born, when I could see my very breath against my mother’s pelt, the only warmth of a dark spring. Hesitantly, I return my paw. There is something magical about the way the snow swirls around me, and suddenly, not knowing how I got there I’m standing in the middle of the field, barely touching the ground. Then my wings are carrying me, taking me on the updraft, and then gliding down, the gale increasing its force. I flutter when I touch the ground, beaming. My mother has an odd expression on her face, yet I shrug it off. ”Thea. It’s time.” Her voice is clear and powerful, and though I don’t know what she means, I reluctantly follow her inside.

^^this is one of the mountains from around where I live. Thea buries herself in the deep snow, before coiling up in a small ball to keep herself warm. Mostly, she hunts the pika's that hide under the snow, and keeps herself sustained on the lichens and mosses that can still be found deep under the snow. In the summer, when some of the snow has melted she spends her days on the slope of the mountain, eating wild strawberries, marmots, pika's, ground squirrel's and some of the grasses. When the sky grows dark she returns up the mountain, back to her burrow in the side of the still-remaining snow.

Coming soon...

Dropping out. I really cannot adopt another creature. I don't have time for the ones I have. May do art for the winner though!

    Gwyn fluttered briefly against the wind, dropping down abruptly to land on a flimsy pine branch. It gave a bit under her weight, but held stable. Her bones were surprisingly light, giving her a tiny advantage. It was necessary when she had to navigate through blizzards, as wind speeds tended to increase. Icy crystals decorated her fur as she looked down upon her pack. They were all taking cover from the cold winds, while as she enjoyed it greatly. That was one of the reasons she was labeled "cold-blooded". She was very different from the rest of her pack, causing her to be ostracized to a certain level. She often thought that the only thing keeping her from being cast out was her talent, which was a necessity to keep the pack safe. She had often thought about fighting back, but she knew the only thing that would come from that was banishment. If she didn't use her talent, she was rendered useless. But today, things were going to change. Her crystal blue eyes were fixated on the struggling pack, her expression set in a glare. All the years she was used as a rag to wipe up the messes blizzards left behind was going to come down upon this pack with a fury like no other. They would learn to treat her with respect. She closed her eyes, summoning all the concentration she could with the wind blowing violently in her ears. She waited, inhaling and exhaling evenly. Soon, the sound of the harsh winds were fading away, replaced with a hyper-awareness of every snowflake that was falling, being trampled underfoot her wretched pack members. She could feel the velvety-softness of each and every snowflake around her, all accumulating into one giant hot ball in her chest, aching to be released. She felt the snowflakes being held still in the air, waiting for her command. She could do it. All it would take was a mental flick of the wrist. She squeezed her eyes shut harder. “Do it!” She shouted at herself. Why was this suddenly so hard for her? The ball of fire in her chest was becoming physically painful, causing her to grit her teeth. Do it, do it, do it, she chanted in her head. But even with all the nagging, she couldn’t bring herself to do it. She couldn’t prove her namesake to be true. They couldn’t get the better of her. With a giant sigh, all the tension in her chest was relieved. The snow dropped dead from the air, all wind resistant gone. She wasn’t cold-blooded, and she made a promise that these foxerflies would never get that out of her again. She saw a couple of her pack-mates peek their head out to look up at her. “Already?” One called out to her “Nice job, Gwyn!” Another said, beaming up at her. She managed a weak smile in response. “Thanks,” She said quietly, fluttering down. “But I have to leave.” She heard the collective gasp as she took to her wings, smirking lightly. She could do better than this.
    (To be continued! I had lots of fun writing this. Hopefully I'll be able to rp her if I win!)
