nessarose.

i don't think anyone will ever understand my obssession with nessarose thropp.
nessa, the tragically beautiful girl in the chair who came to shiz spoiled rotten, but still as innocent as could be.
nessa, sister of the estranged elphaba, who fell head over heels for a man who couldn't love her back.
nessa, a girl so twisted and torn she became the wickedest witch of them all over a broken heart.
her story begins with guilt.

you have to remember that elphaba and nessarose's mother died giving birth to nessa. and even if you're spoiled and coddled by your father, that has to be a heavy burden to bear. it's her fault her mother died, nessa must think. and she envies elphie - envies her for having memories of their mother even though the two didn't exactly click. these thoughts must have defined her as she grew up, ingraining themselves into her very being; her very core, poisoning her as only thoughts could. the thoughts made her weaker than she was physically. nessarose was also weak and broken mentally by the time she finally left her father's protection and came to shiz.

shiz was still jut another thing to conquer for nessarose. she was good and sweet and freaking tragic. everybody loved and pitied nessa - just as she was used to - and she was at home. until boq came in and shook up her world, that is.
nessarose must have fallen in love with boq as soon as she was asked out to the dance. she prepared to have her heart broken again; just another person who did not see beyond the chair, who simply wanted to be seen doing something good. but boq's lie brought her hope. here was one person, she thought, who looked through the wheelchair and saw the real me. the real nessa. maybe he is the only person who would ever do that for me. i need to keep him here. so she became clingy and generally nessa-like, wanting to get what she wanted even if no one else agreed with her.

let's fast-forward to when elphaba and boq turned her, changed her into a being built up to be so terrible that the normally peaceful munchkins would dance and sing at her death, made her truly the wicked witch of the east. elphie popped in for a visit. oh, here's my terrible sister, who left me behind. for so long elphie was the one nessa had to depend on. her leaving without saying goodbye could not have sat well with her sister. nessa reacted with anger and rage. how dare her sister come back, now that nessa could provide for herself, albeit in a horrific manner? how dare she use her magic for other purposes than to help her chair-bound sister? how could elphaba betray her like that? see, there's the root of nessa's troubles. she's terrified of being abandoned, left behind, betrayed, forgotten. and then boq comes up and the only person who nessa loved realized her very fears. how else could a girl of her past react? her reaction should have been expected by, well, everyone involved. they thought they knew nessa, and when they didn't, they paid for it dearly.
