Well, I guess if we're posting hoard lore I'll join in.
Our Land My Chinese New Year pet hoard. I named it after a scene in the movie
Hero, which is about the unification of China under the Qin dynasty in 221 BC. They used the word Tiānxià to represent the idea, which was badly translated in the US version to mean "Our Land," which fits the hoard.
Across the Stars Named after a song from a Star Wars movie. It's a beautiful song, and fit the galaxy markings of the dogs.
Air Nomads The markings on the horse reminded me of the tattoos and symbols for the Airbenders from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Arizona Dreams I grew up in Arizona, and still get homesick sometimes. The spiders reminded me of a species of cactus that I love.
Blue Rings Pretty straightforward - the dogs are based on the Australian Blue Ring Octopus.
Bright Clouds, Dark Sky The markings of the horse remind me of a beautiful night sky, when you catch glimpses of the stars in between the clouds.
Dark Wings, Dark Words Song of Ice and Fire reference. Representing the black ravens used to carry messages, with one white raven that only maesters use.
Dovakiin My Skyrim inspired hoard. I'm not happy with the name, but haven't been able to come up with anything better.
Dragonwell My favorite kind of tea is called Dragonwell, which is a pan-roasted green tea.
Dream Catchers Self-explanatory.
Farewell Ten This hoard was inspired after the Tenth Doctor's regeneration. Broke my heart. The horses are named with the lyrics of the Latin song that is sung during the episode. English translation:
Farewell, Ten
On to eternity
The fates be with you
On to eternity.
Farewell, Ten
The fates be with you.
Oh, blessed he
Who brought us peace.
Farewell, Ten
Lay down your burden
We will remember you forever more.
Farewell, Ten
We give you thanks.
On to eternity
You are not alone
Never
Trust to the last
Farewell…
Green With Envy The name fits the for the beautiful color of these horses.
Heart of Gold Named after an episode of Firfly.
Heart of the Tardis Another Doctor Who reference. I thought it fit the vibrant starry pattern of these dogs.
In the Earth Abides the Flame Named after the first book of a trilogy I really like.
Mola-Mola! Mola-molas, or sunfish, are awesome, and deserve a hoard.
Monsters, Gila Monsters Another Arizona inspired hoard. Gila Monsters are beautiful, amazing, rare, reptiles. I was lucky enough to see 2 of them in the wild during hikes.
Name of the Wind Inspired by one of my favorite book series, The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. The magic system in the books partially revolves around learning the "true name" of things, so you can use them. The main character struggles to learn the WInd's name.
Not All Who Wander are Lost Lord of the Rings reference.
Paper Hearts The title of one of my favorite episodes of The X-Files.
Phoenix Wings Markings on the horse look like Phoenix wings.
Rain, Rain, Go Away Named after a nursery rhyme, inspired by the summer storm I loved watching in the Arizona desert. Named after bodies of water in the state.
Seeing Red Fits the pets.
Solitude The title of one of my favorite photographs. It's of a beautiful tree, standing alone in a snowy field.
Spiral of Infinite Skies Spirals are a symbol for infinity in many cultures. For me, the markings on these owls remind me of the vastness of our universe.
Straw DogsFrom a passage in the Tao Te Ching, which speaks of physical things like money as "straw dogs," things which are easily destroyed or lost.
TankedMy aquarium dogs.
The North RemembersAnother Song of Ice and Fire reference.
What is Magic For?I absolutely love these dogs, they're my favorite pet on the sight. They just remind me of the magic and imagination.
What the... hell? The expression on this dog's face looks like me after I'm fed up and frustrated after a tough night at work. Reminds me to laugh.
Wizard for HireNamed after my favorite book series, The Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher. The main character is introduced as a Wizard in Chicago who advertises in phone books, as a wizard, to make a living.
You can't Take the Sky From MeNamed for lyrics in the theme song of my favorite TV show, Firefly.
Take my love, Take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me.
Zuni FetishesMy collection of Zuni fetish ponies.
