Hiro saw Xmeria following them out of the corner of his eyesight and scowled. What part did she not get about the word alone? He suddenly stopped and turned to face her hovering where he was. He got as close as he could to her, right up in her face, trying to intimidate her. "Xmeria, we don't want you here. Go back and stay with Ren and the others," he said quietly, his eyes shielded from her by his hair. You could see his jaw twitch in annoyance that she was still following them, but he'd do all that was within his powers to get rid of her. This was supposed to be his time--their time to be alone and just recuperate. He looked Xmeria dead in the eyes, a heated wind beginning to surround them no matter how hard he tried to restrain it.

As I waited on the ground for Hiro I began to get more and more irritable. There were a few passing drunks that leered at me in a way that sent shivers up my spine. My wings started to flutter nervously but I forced them to sit still. Just in case I accidentally slipped up again, I yanked a hoodie out of my backpack and pulled it on. This one didn't have a slit in the back so my wings were cramped and squished against my back uncomfortably. My stomach was obviously displeased with the lack of eating going on and my mood was only worsening with each passing second. Ugh! Where the heck was he?!

With a quick, tiny nod to the blonde girl in front of him, he swiftly did an about-face and dove down, looking for Jinx but staying out of sight of anyone who would be walking the streets at this hour. Like that guy, and that lady with presumably her husband. He dipped and rose a few times until he found the still slightly unfamiliar bob of white hair in an alley behind a building. As he landed, he prayed to whatever pretend god was out there that Xmeria would heed his advice and stay with the flock. His feet touched the ground silently and he jogged up behind her, tapping her shoulder lightly. Wow, he was getting a bit taller, even with no shoes on.

I had already been on edge but when I felt something touch my shoulder I went into attack mode immediately. In one fluid motion I had turned to face the possible threat, wrapping my hand around their neck tightly. Glowing blue eyes flashed in a moment of recognition as I realized who I was about to pummel into the ground. "Hiro." In less than a second I had pulled the boy into my arms and was administering a serious cuddling even though I was still a bit miffed about having to wait on him so long. In hushed tones I began rattling off questions and other things that my mind deemed important. "Where have you been? What took you so long? Are you hurt? Do you feel ok? Do you need to go lay down?"

A small choking sound emitted from Hiro's throat as he was practically pulled into a hug by his jugular. He took a deep breath as quickly as he could because he knew that in Jinx's cuddles, he wouldn't be able to breathe. Or at least, not normally. He tried unsuccessfully to wriggle out of her vice grip, finally just giving up and going semi-limp in her arms. He looked up at her, a slightly concerned expression on his face. "Jinx I'm fine. Whaddya think I am, a little kid?" He smirked at that part. "Xmeria is trying to follow us, I'm pretty sure she wants to tell you something about Storm 2.0. I think I lost her, but I'm sure she's still looking for us. Well, for you."

It never did occur to me that every time I got all cuddly I was probably strangling the poor child to death but I simply couldn't bring myself to let go. Even when his struggling ceased I still held onto him as if that simple action alone could keep him safe. "You are a little kid Hiro! That's why I'm constantly worried. I've seen you take out erasers ten times your size but there's no escaping the fact that you're still just a kid." I could have gone on and on about that but at the mention of Xmeria I bristled and hearing about Storm#2 only made it worse. Now we needed to get out of sight which meant laying low for a while. Muttering soft curses under my breath I tried to determine the best course of action. "I swear if Xmeria doesn't back off soon I'm just going to kill her myself!" Shaking that tempting thought off, I glanced around and moved a bit further into the shadows. "We might have to just go ahead and sneak into a room at that hotel and wait for a while unless of course you're seriously hungry and would like to eat first."

Hiro frowned and flopped his head against her stomach. "I'm not little, I'm almost eight. If I can take out an Eraser that's more than my age in height, like feet and stuff, I don't think I'm classified as little." He writhed out of her grip when she moved, taking two of her fingers in his hand in exchange for the tight embrace. He looked up at her, inspecting her hair as he spoke, "Can we go eat first? I still gotta use the bathroom..."

"Fine. This will be discussed later so I can cuddle you to death afterwards." For Hiro it was a hard punishment. For me, it was like a little slice of heaven. Chuckling-- more like cackling-- to myself I began to lead Hiro out of the alleyway and onto the sidewalk that was littered with garbage and other things. I didn't really care though because there was a Taco Bell sign and at the moment it looked like the most amazing thing ever. I was hungry and I needed food now!

Hiro let out a guttural sound of general disapproval as he followed Jinx out onto the sidewalk, quickly putting on a random jacket from the backpack he'd brought. He tucked his wings tightly against his back as he walked toward the Taco Bell with Jinx. Most of the flock would hate having to bundle their wings so tight, but he didn't really care. The tightness and warmth it gave him was actually kind of comforting. But he didn't need to think about the flock anymore, he reminded himself. They weren't his problem anymore.

I ignored Hiro and smiled slightly at the thought of the cuddle time that was coming. As we walked, we got a few passing glances but no one really gave us more than a few fleeting moments of interest, and for that, I was thankful. Before long we were walking into the taco bell which was pretty much empty with the exception of a few late night stragglers. "Alright Hiro, what do you want?"
