And here again:

Concerning the guest artist gifts: Yes, they need free slots. But I'm sure that at least one lion will try to corrupt the users with additional slots. ;)

Btw: The first lion will definately not appear before I'm back home today. Just as a little hint.

Well, if time is this short we don't want to keep you waiting anymore, Yamaneko!

Team Shadow Prowlers, Final Day Task 1

Jousting is a dangerous sport and our two characters are not too experienced in mounted combat. So they spent the last days practicing very, very hard. They even read the rule book! Well, Ayla did. I don't think Karne could be bothered.
Anyways, even before the first light of the morning our two champions were on the pitch, stretching muscles and practizing their routines. It is going to be a hard competition, believe me! Those two will stand their ground until the very end!
Good thing this is the un-bloody variation of the traditional jousting. I mean, sharpened spears and the possibility to fight further on the ground if the enemy is unmounted is really harsh. We wouldn't want that, right guys? Ahm, guys? By the sake of the Infames, is that a sword?!

Final Day, Task 1

(With your permission I would like to submit all artwork done during the medieval tournament to my deviantart-account. Of course after everything is over.)

To be honest, I really underestimated the amount of time a story this long takes. Three days of work and still only 2049 words... I'm not sure if it can be counted as an entry, because of the missing 3k words, but nonetheless I want to show it. It'll be finished some time, I'm sure.

Team Shadow Prowlers - Dead or Alive

Sun rays warmed his face. They kind of tickled him, they teased him. What was this? He unwillingly opened his eyes, the bright sun hurt and he covered his face with a hand. While coughing he sat up.
Dirt covered his hand and parts of dried blood. But besides from this bright light nothing hurt, where did the blood come from? And where was he?
Carefully he looked around, blinking through his fingers. Slowly his eyes adjusted with the bright light and he was able to see what was around.
“Ayla? Ayla!” Again he had to cough, but his companion was found. The female alb was also covered in dust, but breathing. She opened her eyes as he knelt next to her. “Ayla, at least you are here…” Unlike his behavior against strangers he was caring about her. Not loving, but seeing his only friend in her. Or, not, not really friend. A sort of friendship developed from an apprenticeship.
“I’m here…. But what happened?” Even Ayla could not identify where they were, it looked nothing like the places they had been before. “I was really close behind you. It did not even snow yet…”
Snow, Mountains, Soldiers… Something terrible must have happened! Really fast he grabbed his short sword and turned around, but there was still nobody.
“The… the mountains.” Karne sat down again. “The village was already abandoned when we arrived. Really strange, because it was not long ago….”

Everywhere leftovers of the villagers laid around. A dog was barking in a backyard, fresh trails from horses led around the houses. In some houses even the dishes still stood on the tables. Mistrustful Ayla and Karne split, they came walking, so they did not have to worry about horses.

Ayla snuck in the shadows. She went inside the first house along the main road. Nothing was to hear inside, but she was still carefully. She would not have survived by walking into every room without caring about possible dangers and unfriendly residents.
The sun went down, slowly the night casted out the daylight.
In the first room everything looked normal. The residents could come home every moment, working in the fields would not hold on into the night. But even the dog in the backyard now stopped barking. She hurried to go into the kitchen and stuffed as much useful food in her bag as possible
. Hm, yummie cake…

Karne did not care about the inside of the houses. He walked into a small street and climbed up to a roof. On top he laid down and carefully crawled to the edge. From here he had a good overview over the market place and the main streets. Cold wind made him shiver and he pulled his hood deeper in his face, his sword save in his hand.
A tiny move on the roof in front of him caught his attention. They weren’t alone! In the same moment, Ayla came out of the door just below of the stranger. The stranger let himself fall, but Ayla already heard him and made a step back into the house. Karne jumped down and tried to attack the stranger from behind, he was completely focused on Ayla. It was only a matter of seconds until the stranger was laying on the ground, not breathing anymore.
“We have to get out of here”, Karne ordered. “I’d bet there are many more where this fellow came from.” He tipped the dead man with his foot.
“His armor isn’t the armor of a simple villager”, Ayla added. “Let’s find the nest!”
Karne grinned and nodded. “Yeah, let’s find this pack”, he whispered.
Against their expectations they were able to leave the village without further accidents. It was very clear that the man only belonged to a patrol.

Not far from the village thick fog covered the landscape. This fog was their destination.
“Hey, we’re back”, Karne said to no one specific.
“I know”, came the answer. In the fog no speaker was to be seen. Not only because the fog was so thick – the fog itself was the speaker. “Did you follow your order?”
“Of course. The village was abandonment, but we found a patrol. We now go to find their nest.”
While Karne talked to the ‘fog’ Ayla went away to get the horses. They were outside the fog and ate grass. A few moments later Karne came to her. No words were needed, they mounted and went into the same direction.
Their way was very clear. In this area almost nothing was alive. It was late autumn and what Mother Nature didn’t put to sleep the fog completed.
The fog was a demon from an unknown world. He somehow came into this dimension with the intention to kill everything alive. But soon he had to face one thing that simply ‘washed it away’ – Water. The fog was not able to kill what was covered in water or simply very wet. So after some time he kidnapped a lonesome hunter. Kidnapping isn’t really the right word, he surrounded him and let his poisonous aura do the rest. Karne was some time unconscious and took some brain damage which caused him to forget almost anything. After some days he was able to remember his name, but nothing else came back. Neither did he remember his home nor his children. All he knew were the things the fog told him. And the fog knew what he had to tell a mortal being.
Almost half a year Karne murdered in behalf of the fog. He was the scout, the assassin who doomed every planned escape to failure and who did not allow a failure of himself. But one day, he followed a trail of refugees. A young alb caught his attention, she was somehow special. He closed the gap on her and told her about another way to flee. A small bridge which could not bear all the refugees, leading far from the mysterious fog. The alb slowly followed this stranger. He also was an alb in the world of humans, why would he want to do her any harm? But completely trusting him, never. Just looking and hoping. Better follow this stranger than ride into her death.
Away from the trail of refugees the fog went thicker. They directly rode into its middle. The young alb tried to escape as she went aware what happened to her, but Karne resolutely grabbed her reins and it was too late for her. The fog enclosed them and she got unconscious. Karne grabbed her before she could fall of the horse und hurt herself. Carefully he laid her on the ground, getting a blanket to cover her.
Then he angry stood up. “Why?! What happens to her?”, he screamed into the fog. “You didn’t tell me anything about this! You promised not to kill my companion!”
The fog did not answer, but Karne had the feeling he was laughing about him. This almighty demon had his fun with some stupid mortal. “Answer me, now!” Pictures of just following the refugees, becoming one of them, crossed his mind. To stay away from the orders and be himself.
“Care about her, or she will die”, the discarnated voice promised.
Whatever Karne said, he did not get another answer. He glanced at the female, then walked away to a nearby river. He took of his boots and weapons, then he jumped into it with all his other clothing left on. Inside the river he felt free and was able to think everything he wanted without someone reading his mind.
No matter what the fog promised or threatened him with, he still came back. And he cared for the young alb. He gave her some water while she was unconscious and told her everything the fog told him when he was in the same situation. She also had lost a part of her memory, but her name was Ayla. Karne was older than her and told her everything about this new world that was about to come. Because of this she became his apprentice in command of the fog.
Together they committed many crimes. Too many to count, too brutal to tell about them.

The only difference was that Karne really believed in the stuff the fog had told him. But Ayla did not, she was more of a critic. She asked questions Karne never even thought of and slowly doubts crawled into his mind.
And one day they fled. Horses, food and water, they had everything they needed to survive. It was morning and everything was moisted in dew. Dew weakened the fog and this was the only chance. They crossed every river they found and walked into them as long as possible. Water was the only thing they knew the fog could not handle.
After some time, almost three days passed, they had to stop in a village to rest for more than a few hours and to get some food. While they slept peacefully a man remembered the stories they heard some time ago. Two black ghosts who came to peaceful villages and murdered there and after they left, fog covered everything and sucked the live out of the remaining beings.
He came into the room when Karne just got up again. The man was not able to hide his intentions, the sword in his hand said more than a thousand worlds. Karne took his short sword and threw it against the man. He did not have a chance. After this incident he quickly went over to Ayla – and again they fled.

This time their way led into the mountains. To fight a few angry villagers was no deal, but didn’t they want to quit killing?

Clouds covered the mountain peaks and it was about to snow. Karne walked in front of his horse, followed closely by Ayla. The path was rarely used and very rough, also the winter was about to come. It was a hard way, but they believed it was worth it. Their former commander would have a hard time passing the mountains.
Suddenly some small stones fell into their way. Synchronally Ayla and Karne pressed their backs against the rocks and tried to calm down their horses. Karne was not able to hold his and while Ayla tried to grab the reins her horse used the chance and also fled. They did not see to where their mounts went, a real debris avalanche went down on them. Karne went down on his knees and dust covered everything. He just saw how Ayla also went down and got buried under the stones when the same destiny hit him. And somewhere in the backend of his mind he felt the fog demon laugh… The demon always got what he wanted.

Karne shuddered. “He… It… We still live. It did not get our souls.” Frightened he leaped up and turned around. Something hit his back and he was about to stab it with his sword. Very surprised he stared into the black eyes of a horse. No, a uni… a tricorn! “What the….”
Ayla almost laid on the ground laughing – just the coughing prevented her from doing so. As long as they were riding, Karne still did not get the routine with these animals. “It wants to show us something. Come, we follow him.”
It was a bit hard to determine how long they walked in this meagre area, but after some time they arrived in a sort of meadow. Everything was set up like a jousting tournament. Tents all around – and a young man running towards them. “Ganor, you’re back!”, he screamed and tried to cuddle the tricorn that brought them here, but Ganor obviously did not want to cuddle. A bit sad he looked at the strangers. “Oh, do you come because of the tournament?”
It took some time to explain the tournament and everything to the new members of Narakari meadows. In the evening when the night came Karne and Ayla sat beside a camp fire.
“In hell… we now really are in hell. I expected it to be… worse.”
“Nothing is worse than the fog. But since we’re already dead, we can’t die again…” Karne grinned and tenderly stroke his sword.

Hey Yama, I am completed the art for the contest, however have realised it is primarily in red. I completely forgot, and am so sorry. Would I still get points for posting it, or not?

I wanted to write the story for our team and I have had it planned (and still have) but I didn't think I wouldn't make it until the end of the tournament. I didn't have time while doing the other tasks because of moving out and renovating our new flat.. I really wanted to do the task though.

I know it won't count as entry anymore but well, I'll still post it as fan-art when it's finished. ^^
