What is a Mutato?

In a rapidly changing world of rapidly accumulating toxic waste, Mutatoes take to the sky.
These creatures, affectionately dubbed Mutatoes, are a sad combination of an unknown creature, radioactive material, and a potato.
They live in the sky and consume UV radiation. They are the new era of Super Man.

At birth Mutatoes are about the size of a potato and can grow to around the size of a basketball.
Generally they are busy creatures who would prefer flying to being carried.
The Mutato is filled with the same kind of gases that its tail is made of.
These gases are currently unidentified, but are lighter than air- enabling them to fly.
They can stay in the air for a maximum of 20 hours straight before they need to land and "rest".
Though, when they can't be in the air, Mutatoes pace... a lot.

"Shatter, just like my brain. Don't call me mad. That would imply I have a mind to be insane with. No, I used to have a mind but they broke it like glass, then left me here. Unwanted broken shards. I want to get them back, that's my only desire, to get revenge on them for treating me like their test rat and then leaving me alone."


++Reason for choosing the name

"I used to have a real name, but it doesn't fit anymore. I named myself: Shatter."
(Doesn't Shatter seem to fit this little Mutato? I thought of when I was thinking of a story for him. I imagined he was a failed test subject <hence the "unstable" on his tail> which "broke him". Later when I was thinking of a name, Broken kept popping up. I thought it wasn't quite right, so after looking up synonyms for it, I chose Shatter)


+Robotics?

A small Mutato laid on a cold floor strapped to countless tubes which led to a computer. The screen listed his heart rate, blood pressure, overall condition and his breathing. Several people stood outside a glass window writing on clipboards. A large man in a lab coat walked over to them, his shoes made loud clicks on the floor.
"How is #226 doing?" He asked with a stern voice.
"Stable," one of them replied, "No changes in brain activity."
"Hmmm." The man thought, he put his hand on the glass, causing a smear on the spotless glass, "time to wake up little one. "

Time passed and as shifts ended, scientist left and the little Mutato was left alone with only a computer monitor. He stirred and the monitor began blipping louder. He opened his eyes to pitch blackness only lit by the small light of the monitor. He tried to get up or fly, but found himself strapped down. He couldn't move, couldn't see and had no idea were he was, so he just sat and thought and thought. Scientist returned in the morning and jotted down the changes in the monitor. One of them left to get the other man. At first, he was the main source of excitement but as days passed he found himself alone again.
It drove him beyond mad, just sitting there with nothing but his thoughts. It drove him beyond mad, it broke his mind. That when the monitor changed, the overall condition changed from "Healthy" to "unstable". The monitor repeated it over and over in a monotone voice. "Unstable!" "Unstable!" It blared. People rushed in, some rapidly typed on a keyboard, others messed with the monitor, but nothing changed the blaring of the monitor. "UNSTABLE!" "UNSTABLE!"
The man walked in and issued a few orders, even those didn't work. "Cancel the project," the man said solemnly. "Get rid of it." The Mutato looked up at him, his eyes were full of hatred. "Unstable!"
The mutato was unstrapped and abandoned in a pit for failed subjects. He waited down there in the moist pit and bided his time to take his revenge.
