So Ive been thinking.. Does anybody know what kind of mate he should have? I've been looking into ones with the same primary gene, but do people prefer the clown or the freckle gene more..? Do they get passed down for sure if both parents have it and a 50/50 chance if one parent doesn't? How does that work?

If both parents have the same gene, the hatchlings have 100% of chance to have the gene. If one parent has a gene and the other doesn't, the chances that the gene appears on the hatchlings are really small.
It is the same way if you breed a parent with a rare gene (like Iridescent) with a more common gene (like tiger stripes). The rare gene will have a really small chance to appear.
So if you want to a certain gene to appear on a hatchling, have both dragons with the same gene
