Aspenwillow jumped. All of her fur stood up on end. A wild fear shone in her eyes, and she jumped towards Ebonyheart. Pressing against him, she trembled with terror. She realized she looked like a kit, and took a step away, still terrified but trying to calm down. "Oh, yeah. Sorry, let's go..." She gestured for him to lead the way back to camp, hoping he wouldn't think she was a wimp. Storms scared her worse than badgers or dogs.

Ebonyheart sighed wishing the deputy would realize it was too dangerous to travel back to camp which was a long ways away. "Okay.." he muttered his head low and tail hoping no lightning came down on them. He looked around his ears alert and jumped every time thunder would strike and lighting would light up their path revealing his silhouette.

Aspenwillow padded beside Ebonyheart, knowing it would be better to wait. The storm scared her though, and she wanted to be safe in camp. He fear made her judgment hazy, and she walked quickly through the wet grass. Everytime lightning flashed or thunder rumbled, she would jump closer to Ebonyheart, pelt on end. Finally a loud roar of thunder caused her to jump a tail-length in the air and she said, "Okay, okay let's stop. There's a hollow log over there if you want to shelter." Her tail dragged and her ears drooped with shame. She knew she was acting like a kit, and hated that Ebonyheart was seeing her this way.

Ebonyheart smiled feeling bad for her. He walked up to her and grabbed her tail with his. "it's okay let go" he said smiling. "Even deputy's have fears." he said smiling. "Your strong though and the lightning's scared of you." he said smiling and walking into the log with her and lying down in the front letting her have the safe middle of it. He laid further away not wanting to invade her space for into the den she slept on the complete other side.

Aspenwillow shivered, her pelt soaked through with rain. She looked up at him, eyes shining with worry. "Thank you Ebonyheart. I know it's silly of me, but once when I was a it, I wandered off and got caught in a thunderstorm all night. I just haven't liked them ever since then. I'm glad you understand." she curled up in the log, but at the next thunder-rumble she found herself next to Ebonyheart again. She knew he might feel awkward, but she was freezing and skittish. The light was dim inside the log, and she began to fall asleep beside the tom.
