She took a lady-like bite out of her breakfast, making no unnecessary noises while the Advisors talked. A look of disgust crossed her face as they talked of raising the taxes, but it was fleeting. Autumn couldn't afford to me openly ungraceful. She needed to keep up her warm, innocent little facade. As a representative of a neighboring country, she wasn't expected to comment on a matter such as this country's taxes, but it still angered her how these people were clawing at the pockets of a country that had once been a glorious and thriving thing. Now, it was only a shadow of its former self. What were they expecting, anyway? Did they really not think that the people would not revolt? Money could only keep peace for so long.

When Ren rose and gave his speech, however, she could not help but admire. Admire at his stupidity, that is! What was he doing? Asking for a death sentence? Autumn looked around, seeing to how the Advisors would react. Obviously, they wouldn't be pleased. Thomani, one of the lead Advisors, looked ready to murder the King with his own hands. Not good. she thought, and on a whim, stood up. Her commoners clothes made the few women present snicker. However, her proud presence silenced the obnoxious whispers of the court.

"I agree with Ren on this. If this country has a revolt, it would affect my country as well. We wouldn't want to risk traders getting caught up in the mess, and if I'm correct, your country needs our ores, does it not? Bad for both of us." Autumn shook her head slightly, as if saying 'that won't do'. It was a threat disguised as a fact. Autumn's country was primarily desert, with large mountains and forests that ran through its borders. The hot climate was unsuitable for most, but the country still thrived. Why? Because of all it's resources. It grew quickly in power and wealth. It was not a forgiving place, that seemingly barren country. But for traders and merchants who knew the routes and land, there was money to be had.

If there was one thing Autumn's country did well, it was trade. They didn't need to depend upon one country for income because there were always buyers. 'Bad for both of us' meant 'Bad for you'. Autumn smiled warmly at the advisors who threw her venomous glances. Hate me all you want, but many of you here depend on my country's approval for your little fun and games.

She reminded herself to check her food for poisons this evening.

The Advisors

The Advisors bittered at the King's statement. How dare he! He was but a puppet, and he actually dared to make a suggestions? Ha! That boy had a death wish! They darkened when the princess spoke up. It was obvious she was siding with the puppet King, trying to save his hide. However, both of them had a point, not that the Advisors would ever admit to it. Thomani had overpriced the tax, but they would never admit to that either. Unlike the other Advisors who kept their cool, Thomani was openly glaring at the King. "And what would you know of revolution, my King?"

The other advisors gave no reaction, but within themselves, they were already planning how to punish Thomani for his loose tongue. There were quite a few nobles present here that did not side with their beliefs, and that would only lead to... complications. Another head Advisor stood up. Once Thomani was finished, Curain spoke, "I propose to raise the tax to 26g then, your Majesty." Curain, unlike Thomani, was not hot-headed and egoistic. Instead, he went around everything in a cool-headed manner. The only similarity between him and Thomani was their greed. Greed was a shared trait among all advisors, and it ran strong.

Ravyn walked into the courtroom and took her seat next to Lady Autumn, her and Lady Autumn were the second highest ranking people being here next to Renn. Since he was the king then crown princes/princesses come next that would be but no one knew yet that she was a crown princess they still all thought she was 3rd in line for the throne not second but she would have to tell them if they hadn't already heard, somehow the advisors always knew what was happening to the royals in other kingdoms especially rich and thriving ones like hers. Seeing the king and Autumn eating her stomach growled, she hadn't had breakfast yet.

Jayden walked over to the now closed doors of the courtroom. It would be his job to stand outside and not let anyone in. He couldn't hear what was going on through the thick mahogany doors he was standing in front of. If anyone came he would have to knock, enter, tell the advisors and do whatever they told him to do from there.

"I might have been fourth in line for the throne-" Ren hadn't sat back down while the others kept talking and as Thomani challenged him. He could see the glares being thrown at him, though he kept his vision locked straight ahead, impassively staring at the far wall. His grip tightened on the edge of the table as another wave of fear ran through him, making his hands shake again. They could very well kill him later that day for this. But a 32g tax would starve countless families to death, and sitting through that would be to betray everyone he had ever known. "-But my father knew that I could still end up king. I wasn't kept ignorant of how to rule a country for seventeen years."

"I would propose raising the imports tax" Ren cast an expressionless glance over the representatives from other countries, knowing it would hurt the trade, even if they weren't being directly charged. "as opposed to the household tax. Our import tax is not high at the moment, and it is not peasant families who can afford the raise."

They were going to -perhaps literally- kill him for disagreeing not once, but twice. Ren took a seat again, signaling that his disagreements were finished. If they decided to overrule him, which they easily could, then so be it. There was nothing more he could do.

Ravyn looked at the king two seats over, Lady Autumn was in between them. She did not speak at his idea but looked on. The trade of minerals and silks was the main trade from her kingdom, trade was actually the main income for it other than mining so this would affect her kingdom and raising a tax on it would make it more expensive but she was confident that her kingdom would be able to continue. She nodded in her approval not that it mattered, she was only a representative of her country and had no power in this one but she still felt that she had to do something.

She saw the king and Autumn eating, the sight of food made her stomach rumble, she had not yet eating and regretted skipping the meal that she had been offered, she hadn't been hungry at the time but now she regretted it.

Kelsey blinks, relieved but scared at his cousin's burst of courage. His heart pounds hard and fast as he sees the murderous looks some of the advisors were giving Ren. He knew it wasn't his place to speak, after all he wasn't royalty of a foreign country, he was mainly here for Ren, but he felt like he had to do something. His foot starts tapping nervously and he forces himself to stop.

Rarely is she viewed as a threat to the throne, though she plays mind games with nearly everyone she meets. Her gentle smile hides a maniacal one as no one knows about her plotting.

I am indeed after the throne, just no in the upfront and dangerous manner that everyone else is. Mood:Deeply Concerned.
Location:The royal court room.

It took quite some effort not to shove my head in to my hands. This was my first court meeting my father had brought me to and I found that the people in charge were bigger idiots then I thought. I took a quick glance around the room seeing that they everyone was focused on the pit of snakes at the head of the table I took my chances and leaned over and whispered a good solution to my father. "The king has a small point." My father said in his old raspy voice, "If you drink to much from one well it will go dry, however if you spread your drinking source around different wells you may end up drowning yourself."
He gave small coughing laugh before continuing in a serious tone. "I purpose decreasing the family tax to 18g and increasing the tax for imported goods by 9%."
I gave a small grin as my father concluded his small speech and a few nobles nod their heads in agreement. It was the swines turn to get their greedy fingers on more money.

I brightened at the prospect -- I had already lingered outside for much too long, but at least I'd be going back to the shop with a customer in tow. I normally did my best to ease my father's workload, and extra customers [and hopefully, some extra gold] never did go amiss. After all, it did seem like taxes were on the rise, no thanks to the stuffy officials and the newly appointed boy King, it seemed. What happened to 'ruling for the good of the people'? "The shop's just this way!" I said cheerfully, steering the girl in the direction of the silk shop before she could change her mind. "My name is Lycoris, and this-" I pulled the girl past a throng of people to face a squat, homely little building, squished in between two other stores, "is my family's shop! Please, come in, come in," I said, taking a moment to admire the selection of blue-gray, deep purple and dark green silks displayed in the front window. I could see the tiny vase of daisies I had placed earlier this morning sitting on the corner of the sill. I gazed at them fondly for a minute, before swiftly opening the door and propping it open for the girl behind me.

There was already somebody inside -- a young male, dressed in gray clothing that looked worse for the wear. He was looking at the selection of silk a little bit aimlessly, but my father was nowhere to be seen. I caught a glimpse of his face as the boy turned, feeling as if I had him before -- perhaps he'd been part of the audience at my last magic performance? I chewed on my lip thoughtfully, but didn't dwell on that too much - there was business to do. "Papa!" I called. No doubt he was still in the back, finishing up his needlework, and hadn't heard the boy enter. "Papa, we have customers!" I turned back to face the girl and gestured for her to come inside. "Come straight in!"
