There was smoke and fire everywhere I looked. We were now in a full on battle field. I looked around for Raven and Pistachio, and spotted them struggling with some rouges. Raven stood in front of her brother, protecting him from a doberman, and hadn't noticed another grenade - a real grenade - about to go off behind her.
"Take cover!" Kelly yelled, and everydog hit the deck. I leapt over the two siblings, shielding them from the blast, and felt the debris smashing into my back. I braced myself, before lifting my head. One word - disaster. More and more grenades were going off, and we could here the dogs howling. The rouges were winning.
"Go find Rita! Stay close to her!" I yelled to Raven, and she nodded before fleeing with her brother. My body ached and my paws were burning, but I needed to find Tex and the others. I sped past the fighting dogs, ducking every time a bomb blew up. Some were so close to me that sometimes I felt like I was really going to die. My heart beat quickened as my paws pounded at the ground, and my eyes widened as I realised what I was about to do. I was going to have to leap through a ring of fire. Great. I braced myself, speeding up and getting ready to leave the ground. Three... Two... One...
I winced as my paws left the ground, and were singed by the raging fire below. I landed on the ash covered ground and gave a sigh of relief. Once again I looked around for my friends, and saw Jay fighting off a rouge. It was Ruki, again. The wolf was attempting to pin down Jay, but she was just too fast. The greyhound dodged each time, leaving Ruki behind. I was coughing violantly and my vision was blurring more and more each time an ember from the fires blew into my eye, yet I still noticed something strange. Painted in blood, there was a skull on Ruki's right hip. Wierd, I seem to remember Flo having the exact same thing on her hip. I took a small step forward, now not concentrating on what was going on around me, but on that marking. If only I could get a clear picture, just to be sure.
"Aghh..." I mumbled, lifting my paw to look at it, and seeing burnt skin in the place of my pawpad. I'd stepped on a small fire. You know, I should really be more careful. Careful as in watching what was going on behind me. I had been so distracted in watching what Ruki was doing that I hadn't noticed a dog sneaking up behind me. Great; a suprise attack was all I needed right now.
I yowled as a large dog bowled me over. I rolled onto my stomach and began kicking at him, trying to get him off. It was a pitbull. He had grey fur and brown eyes, and an angry battle scar over his muzzle. The dog growled at me and was snapping at my neck. I tried to fling him off, but I couldn't, he was so strong and at this moment in time I was so weak. What was I going to do? Agony gripped my body as the embers burnt at me from below, and I was almost being crushed under the weight of this dog. There was no doubt about it he was one of them - the Outsiders, I mean - and it was confirmed when I spotted the bloody red skull on his hip. But who was he? 101 Had never mentioned another dog in the group, so maybe he was just an extra.
I kicked and kicked, but nothing happened. He wasn't budging. As the pitbull got closer and closer to my neck I decided enough was enough. I had to break free, I had to find Texas, I-
"Falcon?" I swear I just saw him, I swear. The dog saw me being distracted as a chance to finish me off, but as soon as he lunged I gathered the stength to throw him back. Falcon had given me that strength and I wasn't going to waste anymore of it. I leapt up and sped after the malamute. The heat came up and smacked me in the face, and the faster I went the more it hurt. But I had to keep going. I wasn't loosing him again. As I finally approached Texas I yelled at him,
"Come on, Tex! It's Falcon!" I passed him and he was following, leaving behind the two rouges he had been fighting. We soon caught up to Falcon, and as we got closer, for some reason he ran further away.
"Falcon it's u-" And then I noticed. I slowed down, and I stopped. I just stared straight ahead and watched him run. He was one of them. He was an outsider. He had the skull on his leg making him a traitor. Oh god no... Not Falcon, not hi-
"Hawk get down!"
"Texas!" I yowled as he bowled me out of the way of a grenade, only to get blown into the air himself. I sped straight back to where he had landed, and almost vomited when I saw that the whole of his right hind leg was oozing blood.
"Tex! Come on, keep your eyes open Tex, don't go! You can't leave me..." I yowled. I couldn't loose him, not now, not after everything else that had happened. I loved him, I loved him with all my heart and I wasn't letting him go this easily. With that in mind I threw my head back and howled - something we were only supposed to do in an emergencey situation. Well, i'll to you something for nothing - if this isn't an emergencey situation I don't know what is.
Within seconds I got a reply, and I knew help was on it's way.
"I love you," Texas uttered, a tear trickling down his cheek. I'd never seen him crying before, but I had to stay strong. Rouges were closing in, and for Texas I fought off every single one. When Rita and Kasai arrived, I was struggling with a Doberman. The Rottwieler bowled him off of me, and chased him away. When I turned around, Rita was standing over Texas. She used her radio to contact HQ for backup - at least she was doing something to help. I was just dumbstruck - I don't know what i'd do without Texas. Then I remembered,
"Rita, where are Raven and Pisachio? They're meant to be with you," I asked. I'd sent the two siblings to her.
"Me? I thought they went back to HQ after Anegl's big news," I gulped. I had to go back for them.
"No one gets left behind," I muttered. Rita looked at me,
"Hawk you can't go-" Ignoring her, I turned around and sped off, past Kasai.
"Take care of Texas!" I yowled to her as I left in search of the Malamutes.
As I ran through the devestation the actual scale of this disaster dawned on me. It was a catastrophe. My best friend had allied with ultimate villain, I had lost her children, Falcon was alive but had joined forces with the current enemy, and my boyfriend was dying. What a day this had turned out to be. I sighed, and when I thought all hope was lost I saw the shadow of a dog emerging from the smoke.
"Raven!" I yowled, bounding towards the pair. But just before I got to them another dog landed on my back. It was a German Shepherd - and by the looks of things an angry one. He snarled at me, baring his teeth and snapping at my neck. I snarled, threw him off and pounced on him. I didn't have time for this. It took quite a bit of my strength away, but I finally managed to bite into his neck. I felt his warm blood ooze into my mouth, and I almost spat it out as I got the taste of iron. He was litterally begging me for mercy, and all his whining was making me feel kind of sorry. I chose to let go, and as I spat the blood out of my mouth I watched him flee from the scene, swaying from side to side because of the blood loss. I turned back to Raven and padded over to check if she and her brother were ok. Then I realised her brother wasn't there.
"Raven, where's Pistachio?" A tear rolled down her cheek, and she turned her head to a limp figure on the floor. It was Pistachio. He was covered in ash, and his body hadn't been able to cope - he was dead. The poor dog had already been crippled, and another explosion was too much for him. Not only had his mother betrayed us all, but she'd left him to die.
"Hawk, you have to help him! Help him, please save my brother!" She cried. Raven's green eyes were full off tears as she pleaded with me, but there was nothing I could do. Pistachio was gone.
"Look, Ten, there's nothing we can do. I'm so sorry Ten," I muttered, trying not to cry myself. She just looked at me, devastated. But then she began to speak, and there was no longer any sorrow in her eyes. Raven sniffed up her tears and looked at the limp figure.
"No, you shouldn't be sorry. Mum should, and i'm gonna destroy her!" Raven snarled, thrusting her paw into the ground. I was just about to tell her to give it up - that what's done is done and there's nothing we or anyone else can do about it. But just when I opened my mouth to speak I was barged into a corner by Flo. I yowled in agony as her large muscular body rammed into my bad shoulder - and when I say bad, i'm talking about the one taht she almost crushed a few days back. I growled, but I was trapped. Juno stood by the eye-less wolf, snarling and spitting at me. My fur bristled and I lifted my tail, preparing to pounce, when I saw Angel grab Raven by the scruff.
"Get off of me you scum-bag!" Raven yowled, struggling in the cluches of her mother. Ruki came up front of the writhing two, helping Angel herd her daughter through the crowds. Before I knew it, they were gone - again.
"Raven!" My cries echoed through the battlefield but it was too late. More ash was falling, and as the pair of Outsiders backed away a burning tree fell in front of me, surrounding me in flames. I was condemned. A tear trickled down my cheek as my legs came out from underneath me. I was exhausted. I'd always told other dogs to stay strong, no matter what. Well I guess I was being hypocritical because right now I was feeling far from strong. I closed my eyes and prepared for the worst. After all, I didn't have too much to live for right now...
