Hiro squirmed for a moment when Jinx took off, but soon calmed down, though he had just about the biggest pout you'd ever seen on his face. "Yeah I know. Trees suck," he said, his wings folded comfortably against his back as he rested his head on her shoulder. He didn't hate being carried in the sky, but that didn't mean he liked it. It just felt weird to be off the ground and not use his wings. "Okay, but..." he paused and looked down at his feet, one partially sheathed by a flip flop and the other bare, bloody but barely painful. "I need new shoes."

Whenever Hiro pouted I'd usually give him whatever he wanted but sometimes it only made me want to cuddle him to death. Fortunately for him, I wasn't really in much of a position to do so. "To be honest, I don't really think shoes are your thing. Maybe we could find an alternative?" Every time we went and got Hiro shoes he seemed to lose and or destroy them. Now I just had to figure out how we could cover his feet without making him actually wear shoes.

Hiro nodded, kicking the shoe off his left foot and watching as it fell back down, probably being impaled on a tree or something. "I dunno," he said quietly, a bit skeptical. He didn't really want to wear socks all the time and that was the only alternative he could think of to shoes. He was thinking just going barefoot would be fine, unless he was going into public or something. Then he'd probably just wear sandals again.

I shrugged slightly and continued to fly in no particular direction. Well, we were flying northeast according to my natural compass but I didn't much care where we went. I flew higher as city lights came into view. Risking being spotted was not on my list of things to do today even though I knew that at my current altitude I'd easily be mistaken as a bird. Still, I was a bit paranoid without Ren around to watch for most of the danger. "So...sleeping arrangements for tonight? What do you wanna do?"

Hiro furrowed his brow and looked down at the tiny-looking city below them. He bit his lip and shrugged at her question. He was a bit surprised he could tell the names of the buildings they were flying over, he reminded himself that macaws had excellent eyesight, a trait that had obviously been transferred to him along with the wings. He spotted a familiar red and black logo in between a Chinese buffet place and a little antiques store. He pointed down to it, "I don't know if we have much money but we could jack a room from there." He saw quite a few dark windows and, seeing as it wasn't really that late at night, it probably meant that there were plenty of open rooms.

"Personally I feel that if we wait a bit longer we can just sneak in through a window or something and scram around eight in the morning before any maid might come in for a routine cleaning. It's up to you." In truth we'd only have enough money for one night and while I wasn't a fan of too much law breaking in one area, the money we did have needed to be reserved for food and just the general necessities. A bit of sneaking around and 'borrowing' merchandise from stores wouldn't really hurt anyone and we wouldn't be around long enough to get caught. I wanted to set a good example for Hiro but he had a good sense of what was right and wrong so even with all of our not so innocent behaviors I trusted that he would always be a good boy.

Hiro shrugged once again. "Could we go get something to eat?" he asked quietly, hoping to snatch some chips or a hot dog from a convenience store or something. Convenient for them, at least. "Preferably a place with a bathroom," he added even quieter, shrinking away from Jinx as he opened his wings a bit, trying to put some distance between them. He'd had more than enough contact this week and didn't really feel cuddly anymore. Not that he did in the first place, but now the skin-to-skin contact was just feeling uncomfortable.

A soft sigh left me as I felt Hiro's attempts to get away from me and as much as I wanted to just hold him tighter, I knew it'd only result in a very pouty seven year old. "I'm really in the mood for tacos so keep an eye out for some place Mexican...or just Taco Bell, I really don't care. Actually, scratch that. We can get whatever you want." I released him from my grasp but watched him closely in case he'd hurt his wings during that crash landing he had earlier. Finding him a place to relieve himself wouldn't really be much of a problem since most establishments these days had bathrooms and eating was more of a money matter than anything but I was sure that if necessary he'd be able to pickpocket well enough to grab someone's wallet. For now though, we had enough money to get us food for a few days if we were smart about our food choices. Still, there was always the idea of stealing from a convenience store or something.

Hiro winced slightly as the bruised muscles of his wings contracted, but he shook it off and put on a blank face. He could suck it up and deal with a little soreness, as long as he could just stay here with Jinx. He knew it hadn't really been noticeable but when she had said she'd been thinking about leaving, even though he wasn't necessarily proud of it, he'd been overjoyed. Not at the thought of leaving his family, because of course that wasn't what he wanted, but at the thought of solitude, even only partially. He honestly couldn't stand having so many people around, and it seemed like the flock was growing every day. At these thoughts, he smiled. "Okay," he said softly, but he mentally cringed at how happy he sounded, even with just one word. He never sounded like that but, once again shaking it off, he stared at the ground below and distracted himself with looking for a Mexican place.

I raised an eyebrow at his uncharacteristically cheerful tone but chalked it up to the excitement of the little adventure we were embarking on. Smiling to myself I continued scanning the ground for some place that looked like it'd serve up some tacos and was pleased to find a Taco Bell. I wasn't really surprised though seeing as the fast food restaurant seemed to be everywhere. "What would be a good estimate for the amount of tacos you'd be able to eat?"
