    @Star Trek Enterprise ; Aaah yes ;u; I read it a few years back and then again for a book report where we could pick whatever book we wanted. I've always loved it. I didn't quite get the ending the first readthrough though, haha.
    I love Q's monologue at the end though. Made me really respect him a lot more as a character, even if the books aren't usually considered exactly canon.

I read it about a month ago, though I had that book and many other Star Trek books siting around for a few years now. Then I went out shopping with my dad and I saw a Star Trek book that I didn't have so I asked him if I could get it, though he said no since I haven't read any of the ones that I already had. So when I got home I went threw the book pile until I came across I,Q. {At that time I was on season 3 or 4 of TNG} Then after I picked up the book I realized that it was written by John De Lancie, the very Q himself. It took me about 5 hours total to read the book. I just loved it. Though the beginning and the end didn't make much sense to me, so I re-read those parts a few times then I finally got what it meant.
My favorite thing about the book would be the part where he ran into Melony {Human} in times square, then she was killed by the big ball fall. Though later on I realized that she was the voice/person in the beginning, and that she, in the end, sent q back to Q and Lady Q. So in my opinion, she is a part of a species that is higher on the evolutionary plain than the Q and the M Continuum's. I think she {in the book} brought Q, Picard and Data closer together.
I also happen to think that 'Melony' did the whole end of the universe thing, to get Q to appreciate other species, like the humans because Q didn't have any powers for most of the book.

Gahh, sorry for typing so much, especially if anyone read it . . . *hehehe*

    Oh wow I had almost forgotten about Times Square! But yeah, that was amazing. I had never realized that he could write so well also, but about a year after reading it for the first time I remembered it as a movie rather than a book, because (Unlike most books, for me) I could see everything that was happening in my head so clearly. It probably also helped that I was so familiar with the characters already, too.
    But yeah, I'd always gotten that impression from the lady. I'm not entirely sure, but I'd always thought that it was her storm that was the Maelstrom, though I suppose that might not make muh sense because of time differences-- Oh! Unless you assume Q can time travel as well, and sent the message into the past?
    But no, he wrote it after the storm had subsided... But if it subsided because of his message, it could have happened in the past? It's almost time-paradoxesq, I suppose. If he sent back the message to save his future self? And it only really works if you look at time in a non-linear fashion, where there are an infinite amount of parallel universes, each perhaps only microseconds different than its neighbors?
    But I also really loved the first stage, with Data pushing through the crowd and apologizing as he shoves people aside and such. And Locustus's cameo was fun, too. ;u;

Ooooo. I loved that part when Data was shoving everybody out of their way, I couldn't stop laughing {In fact, I'm laughing right now}. When I read it, I imagined Data walking around in a crowd with Picard and Q following him, while he was shoving people left and right saying things like "Sorry", Pardon me" and stuff like that.
And the part when Data and Picard were still in the "Hornblower" was really funny. Especially when Data was rambling on about fishes memory of 2.93 seconds.

I have the book in front of me so I thought that I should quote that part;
"For example, since you are fond of discussing fish, it should be noted that the process a memory of approximately 2.93 second. Were you aware that if you put two goldfish in a bowl, upon meeting, their dialogue would sound something like this? 'Oh, what a surprise. Nice to meet you'. Then they would swim on. Thirty seconds later, having completely forgotten the previous meeting and finding themselves face to face again, they would say 'Oh, what a surprise. nice to meet you!' It seems a rather pointless existence since all knowledge it a transitory and, as a consequence, meaningless."
"Look at it another way" Picard said "Every minute crammed with discovery! Never a dull moment. One surprise after another".
"But they never learn, sir. A life without acquisition of knowledge is a meaningless life. I am aware of some humans who go through life never learning and never forgetting. It would seem fish go through life never learning and never remembering. I do not think that it is good."

    Ahmg, yes. That part. It's actually funny that I had been having a rather unnecessarily drawn-out conversation about fish and whether they have personalities and their memories and whatnot a couple days before I read the book for the first time. ;u;
    But I mean what he says is very true, and I like his comparison to humans. Maybe it's because I recently rewatched the episode, but it reminds me of the time when Data taught Worf about faith.
    Another part I really liked was when Q and q reunited, how q had aged into an adult Q who believed his father to have abandoned him. Him turning back into q was actually really touching, I thought. ;u;
    And the Q family deep-sea fishing in the beginning oh my god. I swear. And Q being a father to q is actually really cute. I haven't seen much of Voyager, to be honest, so I don't know if that's something that's seen a lot. But it's different to think of Q as being a "Family man," for lack of a better phrase.

    Ah, and "I worship stupidity, and you're my new God." His entire exchange with Zek was fun though ;u;

    Oh um. Real, I guess. Information from them isn't necessarily true in the Star Trek universe. Actually, I guess they're kind of like professional, published fanfictions. ;u;

Oh, I see. I just wasn't familiar with that term. I think I've read a book like that before.
