What in the World is a MAJIG?
What, this thing? Its...its a thingy! A whatchamacallit! A thingamajig! Or, just a Majig for short (pronounced Mah-jig, like dancing a jig). Majig are peaceful, graceful creatures that roam in herds, much like horses. They originate from Ireland where they actually live underground in a secret world. Special places of magic in Ireland, like where the first oak tree planted its roots, or underneath an ancient waterfall serve as portals to the lush and open lands of the Majigs, which they call Le'Veen.
The portals transport you to a bright, expansive land of rolling fields and lazy streams. Majig are meek and docile inhabitants here, traveling in small herds. Their herds are clusters of families, with one sole leader, usually a female, and several mating pairs. Each Majig has a unique job in the herd: they can be watchers, searchers, healers, or entertainers. The Majig know the importance of play and community, and everyone is considered equal.
Majig Social Structure
Majig are able to communicate telepathically with one another. Their antennae are sensitive to air vibrations and heat: they can sense the presence of others extremely well and are almost never surprised by other animals.
When young Majig turn 20 years old, they participate in a rite of passage in their herds. The Jigling sets out on a lone journey across many miles to search for a rare flower, called the Enlag. This flower sheds a blue luminescent glow at night, but is very hard to find in the dense forests of Le'Veen. Sometimes the journey to find an Enlag take months. When the Magij youth returns with the Enlag flower, the leader accepts it in a small ceremony and re-plants it in a special, herd-specific grove. This grove is where the elders Majig spend their last years in peace and rest, and the blue light from the flowers eases their sleep at night and soothes their aches. In this the young Majig pledges to care for his herd through all trials and tribulations. From this point he or she is no longer called a Jigling and is assigned a job in the herd.
Majig Biology
Majig have very long lifecycles and are only fully grown at the age of 30 years. They are about two feet tall, from ear to hoof, when they are born as Jiglings. They age slowly and reach their full height of nine (females) to twelve (males) feet tall. Their bodies are agile and lithe, and they are able to run and jump at amazing speeds of over 45 mph, enough to outrun the cunning predators of Le'Veen. Their fur is dense but very soft, like cotton. They feed on grass and other plants.
Majig Nefarios
As with any society, Majig are plagued with certain diseases. Occasionally a Majig will become infected with a strange virus. The virus (Shetee Nefari) turns their coat into dark blacks laced with toxic greens or reds, their circle markings turn black. Along with the physical change is a mental one: the Majig turns bitter and mean, struggling to find love and acceptance. They suffer from depression and turn hateful, though their families and herds still try to understand. These infected Majig are called Nefarios. Nefarios will usually break away from their herds and become loners.
Sometimes, if they are really lucky, Nefarios will come across one another in the vast lands of Le'Veen. They can also improve, if they choose to fight the viral infection and try hard to be peaceful and kind. Only a few Majig have ever recovered completely. Tragically, Nefarios have shortened life spans unless they recover in a timely manner: they only live around 80 years, where as healthy Majig can live up to 100 years.
