Dusk woke herself up, as usual, and took a moment to stretch before getting out of her hammock. Although still a bit groggy from sleep, she was as steady as a boulder on the rocking ship; something that her body had grown all too used to. She strapped on her belt and put her long black hair back in the bandanna. Her fingers moved over her belt to check that everything was there, only to find her pipe missing. While the other crew members were always a possibility, she checked the floor first before making accusations. On the grimy floorboards she found her trust pipe and wiped it with the hem of her shirt before securing it again. As she walked by the others she gave their beds a light push to try and get them up-but she didn't dawdle on waking up the snoring sailors. They knew the punishment for sleeping in too late.

The gypsy woman emerged onto deck, walking over to the side to let the sea water spray in her face. It always helped to wake her up. Wiping the salt from her eyes, she ran an expert eye over the ship and set to work, pausing only to acknowledge the Captain with a nod. First she checked the ropes holding the cannons in place, impressed with the condition of the cannons themselves, but made a mental note that the ropes would need to be changed out sometime in the near future.

As Dusk bumped his cot, Eric jumped and fell out of and onto the floorboards with a groan. But he picked himself up and rubbed the fuzzy back of his head and sighed. He patted his own pockets down to make sure the items were still in there-the items were small but ranged in size and shape and came in handy a lot, then slipped on a shirt and stumbled up the stairs, rubbing the sleep from his eyes when he came up onto deck. The young boy looked around and spotted the Captain and quickly came to her side. "Errm, morning Captain." He saluted wearily. "What do you need me to do?" He asked next, ready for orders.

Maggie watched the master gunner, Tempest, approach, and returned her greeting. "Good morning," she said, her voice low but rhythmic with her Irish accent. "It certainly will be," she remarked, on the day's sailing ahead, glancing back out at the clear sky and seas. She smirked slightly when Tempest explained her plans for the crew. "Very good," she said, a bit of a chuckle in her voice. "Thank you, Tempest."

Looking down on deck, she saw more crewmembers waking and moving about on the deck, doing their morning duties. She turned as the cabin boy, Eric, appeared at her side. "Good morning," she greeted him as well. Thinking quickly of what the boy would need to do, she replied, "You can go down to the kitchens, and check to see how the cook is doing. If whatever gruel they're serving for breakfast this morning is ready, you can tell the crew, then take the higher officers their meals directly. After that, you can go belowdecks to work with the team Ms Rivers is getting together to clean cannons," she finished, jerking her head to gesture towards the master gunner.

Tempest gave a short, small nod to her captain and turned away as their sole cabin boy rushed over, ready for orders. Striding over to the stairs that lead below decks, she advanced down the steep slope, ducking her head so not to hit it as she did. Under deck it was darker, dimmer and, to be honest, it reeked. Wrinkling her nose, the master gunner looked around in the hammocks for sleeping sailors and pushed one out. He sprawled on the floor and looked up before muttering a greeting and rushing up onto the deck. Ahead, she spotted One-eyed Mace. "Oi, Mace! Get up! You need to clean these cannons!" She yelled. Hopefully, her voice would not only succeed in waking him up, but waking some of the others up too.

Name: Artephius (This is not his real name, but he refuses to give his actual one.)

Pirate Nickname: To his face? None. Behind his back, a variety. Scarface being one of the more common ones. Cut-throat is another. A few cuter nicknames have been circulated, but he has a strong cut-the-face policy for when people try to get /cute/ when him.

Gender: Male

Age: Tends to be tight lipped about person details, but he is clearly past his 30's. The fact that he almost never smiles accentuates that. He claims to be over 1000, though.

Orientation: "Gentlemen do not discuss this." He doesn't seem particularly receptive to most people's advances. Mainly because he is too good for them, not that he doesn't ever have sex. He's merely a gentleman of digression, taste, and sophistication.

Appearance: Artephius is a man of strong stature and little expression. He almost always bears a neutral scowl, and when his expression does change, it's almost never to a smile. He dresses with simple class, a fine, dark leather coat and shirts that seem to be well taken care of, mostly white, but a few of finer colors for special occasions. He has dark skin and black eyes, and has a small golden cross tucked under his shirt. His face and body are covered in the scars of a man who has had a fair few fights, including rope burn scars on his neck, the evidence of an attempt at a throat slitting, a few blade and shrapnel scars on his face, and more on his body than most anyone will ever find out about. As he is very difficult to get out of his clothing. He always has a heavy scent of spice around him, from an exotic perfume he always wears. No one ever sees him apply it, but the scent is always there. Its pleasant, though thick.

Personality: Artephius is intelligent, calculating, and interaction with him would (not inaccurately) would give you the impression that he is a heartless man. He doesn't have time for most people, as he is busy doing his job. He prefers to keep an air of mystery about himself, and will often answer questions about his person incredibly subversively. He seems to take some kind of wry, sick pleasure out of people's frustrations with his taciturn and tight-lipped nature. He likes the finer things in life, and tends to keep himself well-groomed. He tends to give vague, but very serious threats to people who mess with his work, though it is rare to see him actually start a fight. He doesn't see killing as a necessity to win a fight, but is more than willing in the right situation.

While he has a general hateful air, he is very fond of the ship, the maps, and their workings. He is not just good at his job, he is (or so he claims) the absolute best. He does not tolerate mistakes.

He has a passing interest in the sciences, arts, and alchemy. He prefers to have himself be seen as a beacon of class, reason, and sophistication, with a hint of danger and blood thirst to keep anyone from standing too close to him.

Don't touch his things, don't make chit chat, and don't try and be cute and his good side can be found. Not that he has much of a good side. Mostly it will grant you less looks of contempt.

He speaks with an English accent, though whether or not he's actually that is unknown. Regardless, when he does speak, he does so with clarity and sophistication ill befitting a pirate.

History: While he is very reticent with any personal details, he will give a few. He once worked as a shipmaster for a much more legitimate ship, but that went very sour and so did his personality. From there, he's working on a variety of ships, and has a hand in several prostitution rings in ports still, though he's no longer directly running them. He takes his name from an ancient Moorish alchemist who supposedly discovered the secret to eternal life. He's also tried his hand in the Opium business and the rum business, but found them to be distasteful.

Orientation: "Come any closer, dearie and I'll carve your pretty face from your skull." She's pretty unimpressed with people in general and, while she had her fun in her day, she feels like she's old enough to be completely done with that silliness and will probably take an ear off anybody who tries too hard to get 'friendly' with her.

Appearance: Jack is a tall, firmly built woman with a matronly figure and strong arms. She has dark skin and amber eyes, and roughly textured, shoulder blade length black hair that she usually keeps tied up out of her face in a scarf. She is missing her right eye, which she keeps either a patch or a scarf over at all times, and has severe scarring around the eye socket and down the same cheek. Her left hand is missing a thumb, and she keeps the stub bound over with rags. She has full lips that are usually pulled into a stern frown, accentuated by her dark and severe eyebrows and otherwise generally striking and firm facial features. Her clothes are usually as simple and practical as possible with most of them consisting of a pair of trousers and various men's shirts which she may or may not have taken directly from the men in question. Occasionally she'll incorporate a vest or scarf for flair, but more in the interest of keeping her clothes from getting in her way. She usually has a pouch around her waist on a belt full of various sizes of knives and other vaguely medical looking tools.

Personality: Jack is hard, sharp, and stern, with little tolerance for weakness, and even less for silliness. She is a trained doctor and enjoys practicing medicine, but doesn't bother with any pain killing methods, including when performing surgery. A swig of strong whiskey is probably about all you can hope for if she's cutting you open. She doesn't enjoy being told that she isn't capable of something, and will usually make sure to prove anybody wrong who says such things, preferably in the most painful way possible for them. She isn't particularly moral and has few qualms with anything from thievery to bloodshed, but she has a soft spot for children and will stop short of killing or harming a child. She is all for necessary evil, but thinks needless cruelty is excessive and distasteful. She will follow orders, but makes it clear that she has little respect for those in authority above her, particularly if she is older and more experienced. This is made even more clear by the pet monkey she brings with her everywhere that she pointedly named "Captain". Luckily for her, she is a good enough doctor and strong enough deck hand that she can still usually keep work in spite of her attitude.

The missing thumb and eye get her at a slight disadvantage every now and again, but she works very hard to compensate so that the problems don't arise very much.

She speaks in a sharp demanding tone that is colored by a Jamaican accent.

History: Jack grew up mostly in one of the British shipping ports in the Caribbean islands. Her dock worker father was distant at best, and her mother ended up going mad from an illness when Jack was about twelve. Jack herself jumped between being a port rat and being a scullery girl in the house of one of the rich Englishmen running the port before she ran away to be a sailor in her teens.

Jack refuses to talk much about her past, but ask around enough and you might hear rumors about how she lost her thumb and eye, and various attempts at mutiny in the past she may have been a part of to earn such a punishment. One thing she will tell was that after she was injured and was still learning to coordinate with the missing body parts, she took up with an English doctor and later on an Island witch doctor to learn the medical field. She doesn't know how to read anything except for medical terminology in books.

Well I have a rather average stature not being extremely tall nor a small guy.. I also have a slim body that is usually kept thin and well kept, I don't consider myself muscular and certainly strength isn't my strong point, I usually am good at 'quick things' such as the sword playing and things as such, I am deadly with a sword in hands or a few throwing knifes.

About my hair, I like to wear it rather long and often uses my hat to cover it up or braid it and tie it with a white bow. About my clothes, I like plain long-sleeved shirts usually on a light color being white my favorite and I also enjoy long trousers as well, always.

Well basically saying it all Arthur had grown up on stories told by his father who was a British Sailor who joined on adventures around the globe on board of ship and as soon as he could when he turned 14 he decided to follow his father's steps and join a ship for the first time as a cabin boy helping with chores around the ship and all that, he served on the ship for an year and actually decided to his luck living by himself where he started things such as stealing and later on sword playing, he first got into a pirate ship when he was 17 and had been aboard on since then.

Other thing, this is just more of a curiosity... Anyway, Arthur plays flute and he actually carries his flute around with it and is often playing sweet melodies on it.

Well, I was never a tall guy... My height actually fits me very well and so with that I can easily confuse people about my gender. Also, my small stature really helps me with my thieve job since I can easily dash out and squirm into places those big guys can't. About my weight, well I'm pretty thin since I don't actually eat everyday but, oh well it could be worse... At least I don't have all of my ribs showing out...
In other words I have a slim appearance.

Just adding that Max is an orphan. His father was a sailor from the royal marine that actually gave up his duties and chose to hide in Tortuga and his mom was one of the bar-ladies that his father had chosen To not let work for any other man. The thing is that when Max was around 5 the British found his father and he was arrested and condemned to death. Since then Max's mother had gone into a drinking habit and was constantly drunk and selling herself for money to drink while Max starved though when he was 7 he decided he would face things for himself and just went to the streets for good.

Mace blinked and got out of his hammock after Dusk had bumped it. He looked down at his feet then up at the rest of the swinging hammocks. With a slight grunt, he let the ship rock him for a second. After he was sure he was fully awake he walked out to Dusk. "What do you need me to do?" Even though his face was straight and he kept his cool, honestly Mace wanted to be bo'sun's mate. He had always kept on good terms with Dusk, and he respected her.
Standing on the deck in the sun, there was no other place Mace preferred to be. He felt a small smile turn up the corners of his lips, but he still stood at attention to the bo'sun.
The Bilge Rat rolled and pitched gently as the wind blew through the topsails and foresails. Mace waited and listened to the breeze, the loose ropes and pulleys knocking gently against wood.

Being such a legend amongst everybody had stirred up his impressions
and he has hopelessly fallen in love with her, it's a laughing matter, and
he always denies the fact that he does.

His everyday outfit on board is very baggy white potato sack looking trousers
held up by a worn belt he had stolen, the trousers are striped with fading
light blue stripes and are torn at the knees. Trap wears a yellowing white
button up shirt that he leaves open; most buttons are gone but he doesn't
mind as long as the shirt protects him from the sun. The boy also
walks around barefoot and grumbles constantly about the 'bloody' blisters.
At night, he sleeps shirtless but keeps his pants on. Trap has a fine british
accent hat can turn into terrible common pirate slang.

Yasine Trap is a young and ambitious man longing for adventure and the thrill of a fight. He gets that of course now that he works for the Hellhound herself, and he couldn't ask for anything better in life. He was once a young little street rat picking pockets with a tough and obnoxious attitude, however he was and still is extremely clever and adventurous. Falling upon a public library, the curious boy's interest stirred and he sneaked himself in by means of an open window. Yasine was always an illiterate; he was brought to an orphanage when he was two and escaped when he was seven to live the dangerous life of a tramp, he had his little group of orphaned children with the same coarse exteriors but he was always considered a rogue who like to work alone. Yasine's eye spotted a magnificent book with a majestic scarlet red cover and gold corners, the title was written in gold as well but he could not read what it said. Yasine went out of the library and back to the little group where the leader was a spunky eleven year old who felt bad for his own 'species' of children; however Yasine was someone that he had always liked and kept close whenever he could, and when the boy brought back the stolen library book he reluctantly read to his fellow tramp all the stories. The tales were of mighty pirates that stole and were lulled to the depths of a steely black ocean by mermaids or the thrill of battle, and then, the last story was of 'the Hellhound'. Yasine was never so transfixed on an item as much as that one story, he made the leader recount it dozens of times.
One day, the group was found, and with difficulty brought to a different orphanage in a carriage. Yasine was reading his special book and when he heard the yowls of rage from a passing street, he looked up to see his fellows. The boy rushed to the rescue; he picked at the lock and set the boys free. But Yasine had to run for his life to escape the adults responsible, he smuggled himself onto a ship and unfortunately found out that it had left the port a couple of hours later. Yasine spent many weeks in the hull of the ship, until finally deciding to come out; he was twelve years old at that time and he realized that the ship was one of a pirates who had camouflaged themselves as simple englishmen to get what they wanted from Yasine's home-port. They made the boy swab the decks and clean every single thing until it sparkled and Yasine was exhausted. One night, the ship was attacked. The blast of the canons woke the cabin boy up and he rushed to see the familiar ship that he had read about more than a hundred times, the boy dived into the water and climbed the Hellhounds' mighty ship until he managed to slip into a port hole (being a skinny fifteen year old, that wasn't that hard). He offered all his cabin boy skills to Miss Maggie, and he had formed strong feelings for her that he hides quite well. He is very happy to be part of the Bilge Rat's crew, all he needs now is someone to teach him how to read and a good book. Yasine dubbed himself Trap after his unused last name; finding it more agreeable with his pirate life, he is a happy and bubbly boy but when it's time to stay focused he becomes very serious and triples his ability to handle hard work. Trap is always trying to crack jokes up when times and moods are high, he loves to play the accordion that he had stolen along with his belt. He is also very intelligent, but when it comes to romance, he is as hopeless as a jellyfish that's being confronted by a hungry turtle, and he always tries to find something clever and funny to say to his captain but has always failed.

The girl's outfit is usually plain black trousers with worn military boots that she had stolen;
her shirt is a ripped, yellowing and sleeveless shirt accompanied
with a large and heavy overcoat only used on cold days at sea.
The coat is layered with pockets filled with things from coins to mice and reaches down
to her ankles. Calypso had it since she arrived on the Bilge Rat. She speaks with a soft voice
but with a serious and impassive tone, along with a light british accent.

Being the one with the alluring dark looks and intelligent mind, Calypso had never really come to being someone very noticed in life; she had run away from home after her father died at sea at age 17 and became known as a one of those pretty girls who sold themselves for money; Calypso had been dubbed the Mermaid by the 'customers' therefore giving her an idea for a better name later on. It was something Calypso could live with, she had tried many things before deciding to do such a thing amongst men, but ended up either thrown out from the building or turned down. Calypso finally lashed out against a customer and ran away; however being in those silly and revealing get ups that they made Calypso use, she was easily caught. The girl was then rescued by a dark stranger; he paid the man that had seized Calypso and took her in. She supposed he wanted one of those 'favors' but he wanted none of that, Poseidon was seriously grateful; she had been saved by a rich english sea merchant who took the time in educating her; he taught her to read, write and even sail a ship. Until he was killed in a street riot. Calypso had become quite the gentlelady and had many suitors and had been left a great sum of money, however, the girl was so depressed that the substitution of a father had left her once again. She had herself tattooed on her arms to look dangerous and not someone to mess with; she abandoned the grand and full life she had and left land; buying a small ship and sailing off with a couple of men as a rare female captain. It was just their luck that they encountered the Bilge Rat. She gave up her ship and came quietly; the legend of the crew and captain was something not to trifle with and Calypso had made the right decision. Her crew members were shaking like leaves with fright, however Calypso stepped up and talked with the legendary Hellhound. When deciding to give up all her possessions on board to the Bilge Rat, she saw that her own ship had parted and had left her there with the pirates. Calypso felt a burning hatred and rage; she fought off most of the crew with guns, wounding badly but not enough to kill, but she was no match for all these strong and worthy crew of the Bilge Rat. Calypso finally came clean and offered herself as a crew member; an able sailor and a worthy shooter on rough seas during a fight. Calypso remains tough and dangerous to anyone that makes her angry or upset, she is very quiet and has a great appreciation for the captain however she respects Maggie's space and keeps to herself. The girl is only spoken when spoken to and she obeys Maggie's and Arthur's orders without question, however she listens to her gut feeling as well and her large knowledge of the sea.

Artephius, Shipmaster

Artephius exited his map area, blinking into the sunlight of a new day after having spend much of the night examining his maps. He didn't sleep much, it wasn't so necessary. But plotting the ship's course was, as always, the most important part of the ship. They couldn't exactly find anywhere without their heading, and HE was just the man to do it. In fact, he was the only man to do it. At least on this ship.

He gave some of the able sailors a withering glare before starting to contemplate the wind directions in silence.
