Lisa May bid Lily farewell, yawning as she realized just how tired she was. She slowly slogged upstairs.
Swimming has always made me tired, she thought, as she stumbled across the green rug towards the comfy green bed. The fish tanks on the fireplace in the corner of the room trickled cheerfully, although the fireplace was empty, cold, and silent for now. Lisa May got underneath the covers, rolled over onto her right side, and closed her eyes. She didn't intend to fall asleep, but somewhere in her thoughts of what she'd do tomorrow, she did.
Four shapes melted out of the rocks, one at each side of the clearing. A tall, furry shape stood in the middle, although the moon was behind it, so it was shrouded in the shadows. It had pointy ears and a long, pointy muzzle. The shapes were small and bulky, with flat, wide, rounded tails.
"Do you know what I expect of you?" The middle figure spoke in a high-pitched, commanding voice.
"Yes." The creatures all spoke in unison, bowing their already somewhat bowed heads even further.
"And do you know what will happen if you fail?" The voice rose a few notes.
"Y-Yes," one of the creatures stammered. "We understand."
"Good. Go. And do not come back until you have completed your mission!" spat the center figure, banging one fist in his hand, making a loud cracking sound.
The creatures all melted away into the shadows in unison. The middle figure was left in the center of the clearing. Suddenly, the light changed, and a glimpse of his face could be seen.
Lisa May awoke, gasping. "That was Tom Nook!" she exclaimed out loud. A gray cat was resting on her windowsill. It was a normal cat, not a talking one. At her startled voice, it looked over at her with a startled expression on its face. Lisa May took a moment to realize that it was raining outside, and there was a little awning over her windows. The cat was safe from the rain under there, but it hadn't come in for some reason.
Hmm. Guess it just prefers the outside. Lisa May scratched her ear, then threw back the covers and got up. Or the in-between. She walked across the room. It was bright inside, but outside it was dark and dreary. It was raining so hard, you couldn't see ten feet away. Lisa May looked outside, and saw that a tree branch had fallen from one of the higher trees and landed a few feet away in some other trees at such an angle that the cat had had no trouble leaping onto her windowsill. She petted the cat, and while it purred, she thought about her dream.
What was all that about? What could it mean? she wondered.
And could my suspicions about Tom Nook be right?
