Hehehe... My Tolkien has the same cover-art. Different edition though, they're all set on black.

As for favorite style of books, I prefer paperbacks. I don't really mind the type of paper on the inside, but it really bugs me if the pages aren't printed in line with the edge of the paper, or if the pages have the kind of edges that aren't even... Like this:
Image
The pages have to be even for me, otherwise it drives me nuts and I can't get into the story enough to enjoy it. Because I fumble the pages. I don't reread books in their book form, so I don't usually have a problem with them falling apart. (usually, depends how many days they get shoved in an overstuffed backpack). When I want to reread a book, I get it on audio book, then I can listen to it when I can't actively read (when I'm driving for example) and read a new book when I can do the reading. I don't like most books with pictures in them, though there are a few that have occasional images that actually work well (meaning they are right).

As for cover art, a good cover is excellent and eyecatching, and certainly plays a part in first catching my attention in a store or library, but it isn't the most important part in my mind. But so does the title and the fact that it is sitting in a section called "Science Fiction" and/or "Fantasy". Or if it has recommendations from friends/family/real people somewhere (like you guys) who say it is good that aren't the ones printed on the cover/back, because those are just fluff (every book has them, it doesn't mean I will like every book). I also don't like cover art that depicts the characters, because I like to imagine them myself, and if they have them on the cover then I can't. Things that are more about surroundings, like if the book is about dragonriders and they have a vaugely human figure on a dragon, but you can't tell much about the characteristics of the person. More about a place, object, or action than a character's features.
Image
Starbase Typhon is a roleplay run by me, off site. It is Star Trek based (but not the new movies, as you will see) and it definetly needs people who are willing to be active, write with great grammar, and of course, are semi-literate or above. Format is play by Nova, which involves multi-person posts that are a different way of doing things that here of CS. But it's lots of fun, and we need long term people who will help us complete our missions. As the commanding officer of Typhon, I invite anyone who would like to give it a try to please apply! (Warning that quality of applications is strictly judged. Very strictly judged.) The link is in the image.

My favourite book format is softback, but not paperback, if this makes any sense. I like when the cover is...what's the term I'm looking for?... almost plastic-y. Stronger than typical paperbacks, but thinner and cheaper than a hardback. I do love beautiful old-looking books, though, the type with gilded pages, elaborately patterned covers (also guilded), and a gorgeous frontspeice (think that's the word...).

My favourite kind of book is paperback. Although I do read a lot of non-fiction and most of my non-fiction books are hardback.

I can't stand audiobooks. :c They're so slow. My reading speed is at least three times faster than any audiobook, and I just wind up getting frustrated at how long it's taking to get anywhere. Plus the accents I imagine, the pronunciation of canon terms, and all that stuff is so different in my head.

I seem to read faster than anyone else I know IRL. XD

I want to read the rest of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series (I've only read the first one.) Two things:
  • The books are impossible to find.
  • I don't think my mum would want to buy something online right now.
Any help?

(Also, I can remember Mrs. P saying something about snakes calling the sky "The Yonder" somewhere in The Capture. I can't seem to find it though. Did I just misremember something? If not, where is it? X3)

I both read and type faster than anyone I know. Even English teachers & librarians were always shocked. Practice makes perfect?

I estimate I type well over a thousand words a day between all of my roleplaying, writing, emails to granny, reviews, searches, posts... I might be a bit of an addict, haha. Give me a keyboard and I'll write faster than I can talk most days.

Maybe that's in the beginning of book two? I remember it, and know it's somewhere in that time gap, right after Soren takes her flying with him for the first time.

Just bought the "Power of Three" Warriors box set off of amazon, along with "The Atlantis Complex" from the Artemis Fowl series. X) Can't wait until they arrive, even though I've already read them before. I just LOVE re-reading books I haven't read in forever. :D (Though I finished Atlantis Complex around 1 year ago, so it hasn't been THAT long. X) The Warriors books, however...I re-read the original series about 1 year ago, but anything past that? Around 3 years since I read them the first time. X) )

Guys. GUYS. Someone posted this on CS trends:
The hobbit you just called fat? He’s skipping 2nd breakfast. The dwarf woman you called ugly? She spends hours braiding her beard so you can differentiate her from a dwarf man. The Uruk-Hai you just killed? He’s been abused by Saruman. See that Gollum creature with the gangly limbs and large eyes? For 500 years the Ring poisoned his mind. That Elf you just made fun of for crying? She just lost her wizard friend to a Balrog. Re-post this if you’re against bullying in Middle-Earth.

This is the work of a true genius.

This is hilarious! :D

I can type faster than I can write long-hand. X)

Never listened to audiobooks, but the whole "accent" thing is the main reason why I've never tried it. Like, with Artemis Fowl, there are SO many different terms that I pronounce a certain way...and if someone else pronounces them differently, it may make me frustrated. So...yeah, that's why I've never tried audiobooks. :D
